《Kingdom's Gates》Chapter one

One minute Jason Cross was heading home in his old chevy truck from working at the silo. The next thing that happens is a strange opening appears in Mr. Hendrick's field, not too far from the farmhouse that he is renting a room from Mrs. Robertson. A forty-something-year-old woman was the mother of his best friend, who died in the war. Having picked a bag of grocery for from the market in town for her. He ended up slamming on the brakes of the old Chevrolet truck as it slammed into several things that jumped into the road, and then the truck engine died. Nearly cracking his head into the steering wheel, sitting there stunned as words appeared in front of me as a voice spoke in my head.

Opening his door as he tries to wave away the images. As the images fade. Looking around at his surroundings while stepping out of the truck, he turns toward the field opening as it closes up with a loud pop. Hearing a sound of a creature in pain, he slowly steps around to the front of the truck. Seeing if whatever he hit had damaged the truck. Sprawl out on the road and under the front of the truck. Are some of the ugliness creatures he has ever seen. Laying on the ground in various states of bleeding green blood and broken bones laying around on the ground are sharpen sticks. As his eyes widen, staring at creatures. Another screen pops up, startling him as he stares at a green skin creature with a large head trapped under the truck. It is glaring at him and snapping its teeth, fangs, or whatever you call them, and jabbering some kinds of words.
(Hobgoblin level 2)
Bleeding -3.
"Jaffa do del lea!" it growls as the creature snaps its teeth at him. One arm of the hobgoblin is broken, and it looks like the right-hand claws or fingers are broken and bloody as it tries to grab the wooden spike club lying next to it. Only to fumble with the club broken fingers.
Another screen appears.
'Quest!: Kill the hobgoblin before it kills you! Exp 25 points.'
Reading the screen as it fades away. "Wait. This is like playing one of my games." Pushing the club away from the hobgoblin with his foot as its hand flail against him.

'You have taken one point of damage.'
Jumping back and grabbing the club. "Okay, I need to kill this thing before it kills me. Might as well put it out of its misery." Moving around to its back as its murderess glaze lost me. Trying to move its large head on its skinny body, trying to around to see me. Slamming the club down on its head three times, another screen appears with words.
'You have killed a Hobgoblin! Exp. Gain twenty exp!'
Congratulating! You have completed the quest! 25 experiences have been reward!
"Ding! You have gained a level! Welcome to level two." As a voice that neither male nor female spoke in my head.

Congratulations, you have acquired the skill: Piercing weapons.
'Speak "menu" and enjoy. Welcome to the Gaming Gate system. Touch creatures you have killed to loot. If you wish to forgo the help tip, just say "Quit tips." As the screen fade.
Standing there staring at the green blood on the club as it slowly fades away. Jason shakes his head to clear the cobwebs. He moves over to the Hobgoblin and bends down, observing the creature. It looks to be about four feet tall with spindly arms that end with claws. The legs are the same way. With a potbelly that ended up wedged itself under the truck and dragged the few feet as the truck stops. Touching the creature and get startled as another screen appear and disappear as he jumps back. Move forward slowly and touching the creature, the screen appears.
Do you wish to loot? Yes/no?
His eye widens again as his thoughts race on how much this is like a game.
"Hell, Yes, I will loot." the screen appears as the body fades away.

'Tip: Please check storage for items.' as the screen fades away.
"Storage." He spoke as an image showing a ten slot room with some items in a few slots. Thinking about the orb, it appears in his hand.
'Do you wish to place a kingdom here? Yes/no?'
"No!" thinking storage again and the item in his hand disappear and reappearing in the storage. "Oh, that going to be handy." Jason went around and looted the dead as each one fade away. The sharpen sticks he tosses in the back of the truck and gets in. Sitting in the seat, He thought about looting seven ears and ten copper bits and couldn't figure out what they were for.
"Okay! Betty, let see if you can start." Turning the key and nothing, not even a click. Trying it a few more times and sat back in frustration staring at the grocery bag next to me.

"Oh shit! Mrs. Robertson. Staring off to the northwest and seeing her house about a half-mile away. Grabbing the grocery and thinking about where to put them and the bag disappears. Puzzle, he stares in the storage, and there is the plastic bag. Bring out the bag and looking inside and seeing nothing was missing. He sent it back into storage.
"That going to be handy." Staring at the club in the seat.

Okay, that good to know. Jumping the ditch while putting the equipment away into storage. Checking the fence and spotted goblin blood on it.
'Congratulating! You have the skill Tracking!'
"Great, I relearning how to track." Saying sarcastically as he rolls his eyes.
Rechecking the ground and seeing tracks heading toward Mrs. Robertson's place.
"Damn! Not good," muttering under his breath as he carefully climb over the fence using his glove. Glance around and not seeing anything, he took off running to Mrs. Roberson's farm. After running halfway there, he had to stop and find a way around a blackberry brier patch. Hearing rustling ahead in the brier, he crouches down and moves carefully forward, peeking around some blackberry bushes. He sees one of the goblins tangle up in the patch, trying to get untangled. Slipping the hunting knife out, he crept up behind the creature and brought the knife quickly around, and cut deeply into its neck. The creature pulls its arms through the brier, ripping the many thorns out, and green blood goes everywhere, and its hand tries to stop the flow of blood, leaving its body from its neck.
'You have killed a lowly goblin! Exp. Gain nine exp!'
'You have gain stealth skill!'
'You have gain Backstab!'
'+1 Stamina.'
"That be handy to have," muttering as he loots the goblin for another ear and one copper bit. Remember, the system said menu. But why nine exp instead of having ten experience from before. Is it because I have gained a level?
"Menu." saying aloud as he searches the area, And a screen appears.

Feeling himself getting more robust, and the muscle all over his body tingle. Moving his hands, it felt like it was smoother. Turning quickly and almost stumbled as he took off to the farmhouse to see if Mrs. Robertson was okay. After a quick run and leaping up onto the wooden fence. He found himself stumbling from tripping as he went over the top of the fence and onto the other side. He leaps six feet and flies over the fence, just touching the top of it before nearly tripping on the ground.
"Wow." muttering as he turns and looks at the fence.

A D&D Gamer in Garweeze Wurld
He doesn't know how he got here, and while the trappings are familiar, he doesn't actually know where he is, either. From the perspective of those around him, Duromar is a half-ogre barbarian, an uncivilized brute by any standard you care to use. But from his perspective, he's a character created in a gaming system. From either one, he must live within the rules of that system. This is the story of a gamer who ends up in a game that's just a bit off from what he knows. ---- I wanted to write something a little bit old-school. Most of the LitRPG I've found seems to be based on computer RPG styled stories. Progression through levels is fast, and depending on the game, skills and even attributes can be trained with or without class levels. This wasn't true with the older pen and paper games, and that's the style of leveling I wanted to write.

More importantly, will he ever get to finish his hibernation!? note: while I ticked the boxes for sexual/traumatizing content, I mostly did that to keep my options open. I don't currently have any planned, nor do I expect it to be a significant part of the story. After all, the main character is literally a dragon.
