《Not A Fairy Tale》Arc 4 - Chapter 26

Once everyone had left the room Elsa turned around and leaned against the desk, supporting herself with her hands.
"What are you?" she asked.
"What am I?" I responded, confused by the question.
"I'm sorry if this offends you but I have never seen a person like you. Never, in all my years have I seen someone with your levels of mana at your age, never in all my years have I heard of someone so good at fighting while being as young as you are and never, in all my years have I heard of someone that can summon a spirit of such a level on their first try," Elsa said, not looking at me.
"Are you a deity disguised as a wood elf? A devil perhaps? Or are you something else entirely?" Elsa asked.
I chuckled.
"No offence taken, miss Regarium, none taken. But I have to disappoint you. I'm neither a go- no, deity is what you call it, nor am I a devil. But let me tell you a secret of mine, something no one but one other person ever knew," I said.
'Are you sure this is a good idea?' Ira asked me.
'No,' I responded.
I heard a chuckle that wasn't Ira's, it must have been the spirit that just made itself at home inside my head without permission.
"I'm not from this world, originally at least," I said.
"What?" Elsa asked, disbelief in her voice.
"I lived a life in another world, died and was born once again in this world. That is the only thing truly special about me," I said, making myself clearer.
Elsa didn't answer, instead, she just stared at the table, as if it had some kind of answer, then she walked around the desk and sat down on the chair.
"It's like King Gilgamesh said..." she whispered.
"King Gilgamesh?" I asked.
'I told you about him, an immortal king, rules over Babylon, one of the only neutral places in this entire world that isn't as poor as Footprint,' Ira explained.
'Babylon? I think I know that place...'

'I mentioned it to you before, remember?' Ira asked.
'Right. But I mean the name is somehow familiar beyond that... As if I knew it from some storie... I don't remember which...'
"King Gilgamesh, king of Babylon. Claims he was born in another world, just as you are claiming now," Elsa said.
"Seems I'm not the only one then," I responded.
"So it would seem... that is if you're telling the truth," Elsa said.
"Why would I lie to you about it?" I asked, a smile creeping across my face.
'What are you smiling for now?' Ira asked.
'Don't you see, now that I have told her a secret of such importance she assumes I trust her, and if she thinks I truest her she will think she can manipulate me easier, in turn making it easier for me to use her,' I said.
Before Ira could answer I heard another chuckle, again from the spirit.
'Gotta say, despite everything wrong with your head, you're one heck of a partner,' the spirit said.
'Good to know,' I responded.
"Let's say I believe you, how would that affect your abilities?" Elsa asked. "Nothing about you is normal."
I shrugged.
"Who knows, maybe I just got lucky and was reborn as some kind of prodigy? Maybe someone is looking out for me and has some kind of plan? Who knows, and honestly, who cares? I'm just going with the flow anyway," I said, making wild gestures with my arms as I explained.
Elsa chuckled now as well.
"Well, you have another lesson to get to, I'm sorry if I... overstepped some boundaries, mister Altair. And please, don't call me miss Regarium in the future... just call me Elsa," Elsa said.
I nodded with a smile and then turned towards the door.
"It's quite alright," I said as I waved and stepped out of the room, immediately rolling my eyes.
The smile on my face had disappeared and I felt sick.
'See, told you it would work. She trusts me a lot more now,' I said as I walked along the corridor.

'So, what's your whole plan here?' the spirit asked.
'My whole plan? You expect me to tell you my plan?' I asked.
The spirit sighed.
'Alright, I get what you mean. First, let me tell you my name. I'm Arva Excal Immobius Ambsa Sigarmads Evirmaldo, good to meet you, can call me Arva,' the spirit, Arva, said.
'Why do beings in this world have such ridiculous names?' I asked.
'The names of spirits have great importance, they are the source of our power. If we ever forget them we lose every ounce of power we have,' Arva explained. 'A spirit giving someone their full name is a great sign of trust.'
'Well then, I see you're really interested in getting me to trust you. If that's so then tell me about your abilities,' I said.
"I can heal any wound and I can use darkness, pure darkness," Arva explained.
'Sounds impressive, now what does that mean?' I asked.
'She can basically make people go mad by trapping them in complete darkness, unable to see, hear, feel or smell anything,' Ira said.
'Exactly,' Arva responded.
'Sounds interesting, we have to try that sometimes,' I said, with less energy than I tried to put into that response. 'Now let's get the rest of this day over with.'
The rest of the day was boring. During the spar, I once again fought against Laura and I once again lost. During the lesson with Dreifus, I apparently made enough process for him to be satisfied so he told me to just do whatever until he specifically called for me to come back to the lessons. After that, I went to eat, as usual, and once again tried to stay out of any conversation that might occur, but apparently, fate didn't really want that to happen.
"You agree with me, don't you Altair?!" Evergreen suddenly said.
I looked up, not caring what this was about at all. Of course, I instantly knew when I saw Evergreen look at the spirit fox with the cuff around one of its front legs.
"This is just the way things are!" Ivory screamed back.
"Guys, please," Nara said, but to no avail, neither of them stopped.
"You can't just force them to work for you! You should have made an equals contract like Servil and Altair!" Evergreen yelled.
I sighed.
"Please don't drag me into this," Servil said.
"You can't be serious! You should agree with me! This is wrong!" Evergreen yelled.
"What do you think of Elsa?" I asked, overpowering her yelling without the need to even raise my voice.
"What? Well, Elsa Rigarium is a grand sorceress, she is one of the best with many spirits that made contracts with her," Evergreen said, blushing a little.
"Yeah, but not all of those contracts are equals contracts are they now?" I asked, leaning back in my chair as I ate the last of my eggs.
Evergreen nodded with embarrassment clearly written across her face.
"So how come you don't hate her for that?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.
"I... I," she began but she never finished that sentence.
"Thought so," I said as I grabbed my tray and walked away.
As I did I heard a chuckle from Ivory.
That night was the calmest since I came here, but I still had to throw up the next morning. The day was normal although I felt that Elsa was a little closer to me each time I saw her, which was more often than yesterday. Instead of going to Dreifus lesson, I meditated in the chambers made for mana training before I ate, which I then did again afterwards since I felt unusually good afterwards.
Things continued like that until one morning, I couldn't get up at all. I felt sick. It was the morning after another dream from my old life. Both Ira and Arva sounded concerned when they talked to me. I just chuckled uncontrollably, tears running down my face, drenched in sweat and I was also in pain, moving around uncontrollably on my bed, like a fish out of water.
