《The One and Only》29. Soaring into the Sky

Lin Yun came late but ended the fight early.
Three punches! He defeated Liang Wenbo with only three punches!
All those disciples who were watching dropped their jaws.
Without pulling out his sword, Lin Yun cleaned up on Liang Wenbo with three moves.
How powerful could he be?
With a slice of astonishment flashing in his eyes, the judge turned to Lin Yun, saying, “Lin Yun? Why do I have no impression of you at all?”
Apparently what the judge meant was that an outer disciple so capable like Lin Yun should have already stood out of the others.
But in his mind, there was no such an outer disciple at all.
“I have become an outer disciple only two months ago. Before I always served as a sword slave in Sword--washing Chamber.”
Lin Yun didn’t hide his background, and just told as it was.
The judge felt even more confused this time. He sized Lin Yun up and smiled, “No wonder. Make a good effort. You may have a chance to advance to the next round. Now I announce Lin Yun wins and got one point.”
“Thank you so much.”
After the judge’s announcement, Lin Yun jumped off the arena, feeling much relieved.
A little accident had happened when he had been refining the evil elixir.
It had taken him two whole days to refine and absorb it and successfully hit the sixth level of Martial Practice.
The evil spirit of the Flower Spot Tiger added kind of uncommon sharpness and dominance to his momentum.
It had taken him quite some time to make clear of the rules before having finally found his own fighting arena.
He had almost been taken as quitting.
The rules of the mid-year assessment were quite simple. Two rounds, group stage and knockout stage.
Over two thousand outer disciples were divided into ten teams. There were over two hundred in each team, and only the best eight could advance to the next round.
It meant the top eighty were qualified to fight for the only ten positions to become inner disciples.
After a careful observation, Lin Yun found that those top outer disciples were equably distributed in each team.
So that was those sect elders’ meaning. They didn’t want those top ones to fight each other and be knocked out too early.
Before the next fight started, Lin Yun started to observe who were more powerful and would be his potential opponents.
In team six, Zhang Han was the most powerful absolutely.
Zhan Han had the potential to rank top ten. He was no weaker than Zhou Yun who had achieved the peak of the sixth level of Martial Practice.
That was all Lin Yun knew about this guy.
But anyway that was not his concern. He only needed to hit top eight and advance to the next round. If he was lucky enough, he wouldn’t encounter Zhang Han during this stage.
“Team seven, Lin Yun VS Hu Feng!”
On hearing that the judge was calling his name, he immediately ran to the arena. He didn’t want his opponent to strike three moves first again.
Using his Wild Goose lightness skill, with a jump, Lin Yun skipped onto the arena steadily.
Hu Feng was only a fifth-level disciple, much weaker than Liang Wenbo.

When he saw Lin Yun, some kind of fear flashed in his eyes.
Now Lin Yun had earned his name among those outer disciples.
From a humble sword slave to someone who knocked over Chen Xiao with only a punch, he was like a miracle.
After the judged announced “begin”, Hu Feng gritted his teeth, exerted all his inner power and rushed at Lin Yun.
He used his palm as a knife, with all his inner power assembled in it. There was kind of cold light flashing in his palm.
Apparently he had been proficient of this set of palm skills.
Tiger Fist!
Halt! Bend the knees! Lin Yun jumped into the air and threw his punch the moment he transferred his inner power into it.
Boom!
Two people clashed in the air.
Hu Feng hummed and got directly blown out of the arena in the air.
“The winner goes to Lin Yun!”
The judge fell into a trance for a moment and then announced the result.
“Tiger Fist again!”
“How can that be? So Lin Yun quitted using a sword?”
“But I really want to see him use his Flowing Wind Swordplay.”
On seeing Lin Yun ended it with a punch, all the other disciples felt much disappointed.
After a short rest, it was Lin Yun’s turn to fight the third opponent.
Judging from his opponent’s momentum, Lin Yun could tell he hadn’t achieved the sixth level of Martial Practice either.
Before Lin had refined and absorbed the evil elixir, it might be troublesome to fight him.
But now he had successfully refined an evil elixir and achieved the sixth level.
So now he wouldn’t be a problem.
Also with only move, he won again.
“Lin Yun wins!”
“Lin Yun wins!”
…
“Lin Yun wins!”
Three wins in a row, four in a row, five in a row, six in a row…Soon Lin Yun had made ten wins in a row!
After all, few outer disciples could achieve the sixth level of Martial Practice.
Except his first opponent Liang Wen, who took him some time to deal with.
For the rest, he knocked some out with only one punch, and some four to five punches at most.
The most important thing was he only used his Tiger Fist, which amazed everyone present.
In his thirteenth fight, Lin Yun finally met a bad ass.
It was Ma Kui!
With sixth level of Martial Practice, proficient in the advanced martial arts Purple Cloud Fist, having practiced Iron Defense skills.
In team seven, even Zhang Han who was at the first place thought he was a real headache.
Ma Kui also swept away all his opponents and had a winning streak.
His fist skills were dominant and powerful, plus he had an iron-like body. No one would want to fight him.
“This would be a good one. I bet Lin Yun will use his sword this time.”
“If he doesn’t use his sword, he is like seeking his doom.”
“Both of them have a winning streak. So whoever wins, the other will end his winning streak.”
“I heard the points would double if one keeps a winning streak. So it was rather important.”
Thirteen wins in a row, Lin Yun never used his sword, which had already disappointed those disciples who were watching.

Lin Yun had his own considerations. Big Achievement of Flowing Wind Swordplay was his ace in the hole.
If he could hide it during the group stage, it would be a triumph card in the knock out stage.
So he didn’t plan to use it now.
Besides, Tiger Fist of Completion level, plus Pure Yang martial arts of the third level, it was already enough to deal with most opponents.
When the crowd saw Chen Yun came onto the arena barehanded, they were all dumbfounded.
“What the fuck! So he doesn’t put Ma Kui in his eyes at all!”
“He was only a sword slave. How dare he be so arrogant? Senior brother Ma, we are on your back.”
“Come on, senior brother Ma! Beat him with your Purple Cloud Fist!”
Ma Kui, who was already on the arena, frowned, looking a little irritated. Even Zhang Han wouldn’t belittle him.
How dare a swordplay having made a little achievement be so arrogant?
“Little sword slave, are you provoking me?”
With a slice of anger flashing in his eyes, Zhang Han said in a deep voice, “Pull out your sword! Even if I lose to your Flowing Wind Swordplay, I would be sincerely convinced.”
“I’m sorry. I was not planning to use my sword.”
Lin Yun wanted to explain, but he found that he couldn’t explain it clearly at all.
“So arrogant!”
Lin Yun’s words totally irritated Ma Kui. And Ma immediately started to operate his Iron Defense martial art.
His tall and strong body became taller and stronger. The exposed muscles of the upper body were emitting some kind of light metal luster under the sun.
Swoosh! Swoosh! Swoosh!
Ma Kui started to attack! And every step of his left a deep footprint on the rock floor of the arena.
It was like the floor was shaking, which startled everyone down the arena.
“Senior brother Ma is angry!”
“Senior brother Ma is so strong. So he hid something in the previous fights.”
“Bravo! See how the sword slave is gonna save his ass. He said he wouldn’t use his sword.”
Ma Kui’s power made all the audiences excited.
Lin Yun remained calm. He met his opponent head on and threw a punch!
Boom!
A blare burst out as their punches clashed! Lin Yun immediately felt a little numb of the five fingers, sore and painful.
“This is just the beginning!”
Noticing the subtle change of Lin Yun’s expression, Ma Kui curled his lips. And the color of his fist was darkening gradually.
Then he threw his punches nonstop.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Lin Yun took every punch of his using his Tiger Fist.
And when Ma’s fists turned into the color purple, he used all his strength to throw a deadly one!
This nearly threw himself out of the arena!”
“Purple Cloud Fist!”
“Big Achievement of his Purple Cloud Fist!”
All disciples were cheering on seeing his purple fists.
“What strong fist skills!”
Lin Yun was startled. He immediately changed his countermove. He tipped the ground with the tiptoe and flew over him.
He dodged this punch using his Wild Goose lightness skill.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
In an instant, Lin Yun, who had dodged that deadly punch at a fast speed, threw numerous punches on his opponent’s body, which made mental-like clashing sound. Lin Yun’s arms were nearly numb, but his opponent didn’t get hurt a bit.
“It’s no use. You can’t break my body defense. Your punch can’t hurt me a bit. But I can defeat you with only a punch. Like now!”
Swoosh!
Speaking of which, Ma Kui already threw his punch, as fast as the lightning.
This punch was well prepared, too fast, at a sharp angle, making Lin Yun have nowhere to dodge.
He could only try to hold it with his arms but was thrown away badly.
Lin Yun felt something in his throat. It was blood. He got wounded by the inner power of his opponent’s Purple Cloud Fist.
“Sword slave, this is how you end up without using your sword. Loser!”
On seeing Lin Yun got injured, Ma Kui immediately threw another punch before Lin Yun landed. He who had a strong and tall iron-like body was rushing towards Lin like a reckless bull!
“He is gonna win!”
On seeing Lin Yun was cornered, all the disciples down shouted.
Lin Yun raised his eyebrows. He didn’t expect Ma Kui to be so cunning.
Ma knew his own lightness skill was much inferior to Lin. So he threw the peak punch the moment he landed.
But only this wouldn’t be enough to force him to pull out his sword.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Lin Yun’s bones were making some thunder-like noise. The moment he landed, he already exerted his Tiger Fist of Completion level to its full wings.
At this moment, fully fired, without reservation!
The dreadful momentum of sixth level of Martial Practice burst out on his body. And the moment he threw his punch, it was like a tiger was roaring on his back.
With his punch thrown out, it seemed a tiger jumped onto the arena, bringing a fierce wind.
The Tiger King returned, worshipped by all beasts!
Click!
When their punches clashed, there seemed some cracking sound.
Ma Kui who was pouncing at him showed some kind of shocking expression. And the next second he got thrown away.
After Ma landed, his body returned to normal state. But he couldn’t stop himself and slipped out of the arena all the way.
Roar!
The lingering roaring sound of the tiger was still heard on the empty arena.
Lin Yun’s robe is also waving with the wind. And the dominant and imposing manner when he had faced those Golden Reckless Bull appeared on his delicate face again.
“That’s the Tiger Fist of the Completion level!”
“My god! Someone could really make it to the Completion level!”
“How persistent could one be to do so?”
“He defeated Ma Kui. 13 wins in a row…No one can stop him. This sword slave is soaring into the sky.”
The faces of all the disciples were as pale as ashes, because they really couldn’t accept such a result.
Just so close and Lin Yun should have lost.
But anyway it was Lin Yun who laughed the last laugh.
Like someone had said, Lin Yun who had 13 wins in a row was soaring into the sky now! No one could stop him

Shaman
*** Let's get this clear now: the MC is a trans woman. This is not a gender-bender. It's set in a fantasy world but the exploration of identity and gender is reality-based. Not a joke, not a kinky turn-on. If this is a problem for you, please just act like an adult and look elsewhere for something to read. *** Rating breakdown, since that should be public info: 2 x 5*, 1 x 4.5*, 1 x 3*, no reasons offered. A human shaman and healer returns from several years with the mysterious shyani, accompanied by her shapeshifting puma best friend. A valued friend, from her previous identity as a male student physician, has acquired an old shyani book, and extremists will not tolerate its presence in human hands. But back in human lands, the question arises: which world does she belong in? Generations ago, human explorers found a continent inhabited by an utterly alien culture of shapeshifting weyres and the shyani, humanoids who prefer dusk and dawn. A truce of sorts was eventually reached: humans claimed the rich lowlands, and the shyani and weyres retain the highlands. Along the border, practicality often rules, but on either side, old grudges linger in some hearts. As a student physician, Corin tried to take his own life, unable to bear the countless tiny wounds inflicted over twenty-one years of lying to himself in order to be, or pretend to be, socially acceptable. At the last improbable instant, intervention came, in the form of a spirit fox, who led him away from the existence he’d known in the lowlands and into the highlands. There, a puma weyre rescued him, and a shyani shaman helped him find his true self and offered a rebirth, a life with no more lies, and an important role to fill. Now a shaman and healer in her own right, Vixen who was once Corin learns that the one human who mattered to her in her previous life, then a fellow University student, has come into possession of an old shyani book, and the more fanatical shyani and weyres will stop at nothing to reclaim it and punish Jared. Even though it means going back into the lowlands and facing Jared as a woman, she can’t bear to just look the other way. This should be a short visit, just long enough to see the book into the proper hands and make sure Jared will not be killed for having it, and then she can return to the shyani community that has accepted her as their shaman. And, of course, her feline best friend Dayr insists on coming with her. But Jared is now a Lord, with considerable wealth and power, and his response to her presence isn’t one she expected. After years living with the shyani, she sees everything around her from a new perspective, and that makes it difficult to keep to the plan of making as few waves as possible. As an honoured guest in a highborn house, with only Jared aware that she has ever been anyone else, Vixen finds herself questioning where she belongs: with Dayr and the shyani, who accept her gender without question but have to make allowances for her differences, or with humans, in the culture she grew up in even though her past would mean a major scandal? *** Trigger warning: there are scenes of Vixen's previous life, which include some difficult moments and culminate in an (obviously unsuccessful) attempt at suicide before she finds her true self and a better life. Please be careful! This is the ONLY reason for the "Traumatising Content" tag.*** Complete stand-alone novel, 96K words. Also available on Scribble Hub and as a free ebook.

It’s been over twelve thousand years since the Book of War was last opened. It was believed to be destroyed during the Great War by the Twelve Warriors and Daughter of the Sun at the cost of their lives. Now, it seems the book has resurfaced, and its new master is seeking to forever tip the balance of power. The stage is being set for another Great War but who can stop the Book of War once and for all? Now their world is being turned upside down as they struggle to understand the legacy that ties their fate to Mendala and the Book of War. Is their destiny set in stone, or will they forge a different path? No matter what, their choices will bring forth a new era for Mendala. ------------------------------ If you love vast fantasy worlds, rich, fleshed-out characters, and a adventure where your'e constantly discovering new things along the way, then this is definitely a story you'll enjoy. This is a slow-burn high fantasy / adventure with many characters and intersecting plotlines. It’s a quest so lots of adventuring, exploring, and character moments, but not a ton of fighting/action (though there are definitely some great fight scenes as payoff to the buildup). Because it’s a fantasy world with lots of people and new concepts, I try to make it easy so that you don’t have to memorize anything. The narrative will constantly remind you of important people/places/concepts as you keep moving forward. Some things won’t be fully explained right at the beginning to avoid information overload. My goal is that the reader will learn things organically as the story progresses. I use two mechanisms to help with the intersecting plotlines. - Each chapter is named for the (main) plotline it’s following and which part. - At the beginning of the chapter, and anytime there is a scene shift, the location is listed. Also, though this is definitely a portal-fantasy (isekai) it’s different from the standard isekai, especially since the world transfer doesn’t happen immediately. It’s not Lit-RPG but characters gain powers and grow over time. Also, it’s a group of teens that transfer, not just one central character. All of the teens are distinct characters, with their own character-arcs, relationships, powers, growth etc. Hopefully you’ll find this interesting as you’ll see the world and story from multiple perspectives. The story is always in 3rd Person (Omniscient) POV so that it’s not jarring as perspectives shift.
