《WileQuest》Chapter 21 - First Nightmare

Where... where am I?
Around me, everything is on fire.
I am in the middle of a burning forest.
But I’m not scared... I don't feel the heat at all.
It's all... blurry.
Someone is lying on the ground.
Wait... is that... me?
I woke up in panic.
This seemed so real. I was looking down at myself. Everything was destroyed or burning, and in the midst of this chaos, I was agonizing.
It could be just a nightmare, but as a Seer, this is pretty ominous. With the recent breakthrough I had with my class ability, it wouldn’t surprise me this dream turns out to be a vision. I might just have witnessed the moment of my own death!
I tried to calm down a bit and turned on the light, it’s still the middle of the night.
2 days ago, after leaving the Coliseum, I arrived in a luxury hostel, like they had in the early 21st century, where a suite was reserved for me. The room is so huge, and the bed is so… perfect. It’s been a while since I got a good night of sleep. Well, since I could sleep at all.
Too bad my second night is ruined though. I got up and reached for my trusty Questbook.
Struggle#08
Objective: Find the culprit
Sub-objective: Get to know all the resident – Find the secret room – Gain the receptionist trust
This struggle is another proof that this quest is fucked up. It’s too easy, the secret room was in a library – I don’t know why there is a library here… – and to find it I just touch the “secret switch”, which was literally a book titled “How to hide a secret room”. As for the receptionist, I just complimented her – she was nice to me – and that’s it. What a joke.
It feels like it should have been my first trial... not like I am complaining, but after what I’ve been through, this situation is actually quite uncomfortable. Now that I think about it, I am not surprised I am having nightmares.
Anyway, the trial won’t last long. Being able to foresee the future is convenient, I actually feel like I'm cheating. If only I didn’t have a headache each time I use it. That, and I also have a hard time activating it. Took me 3 hours of meditation to get my first useful vision.

I can do cool stuff during fights, but aside from perfect evasion, it doesn’t bring me anything. I won in the Coliseum because the guy had virtually no defence and all his attack were quite straightforward.
I’ll have to improve this ability a lot, but at least I have a solid way to keep up with this unfair adventure now. I wonder if this was intended from the start... Probably.
I don’t think I’ll be able to sleep for the rest of the night, I should use this time to make the plan into action. Yesterday, I had a vision about someone suspiciously going into the secret room, so if I put a camera at the right place, I’ll catch him red-handed.
I hope it’ll work.
Everybody was sleeping, so I had no difficulty setting the camera I "bought" earlier today.
Back in my room, I felt a familiar vibration in my pants.
V: Hey nevvbie! How are you? (^.^)
V: Long time no see!
S: I’m fine. It has been ages since I got news from you.
S: Not like I missed it.
V: Come on. I knovv you love me. S: Nop.
S: Why are you messaging me?
V: I vvant to ask about your past on your Earth.
S: Well, that’s quite straightforward.
S: Why do you want to know?
V: Just curious.
S: …
S: Nah, I’ll pass.
V: Hey! VVhy?!
S: First, you are fishy.
S: I don’t know anything about you.
S: Second, I believe you said you could talk with the other “guide”.
V: I do, so vvhat?
S: So at least one of them should know the story by now. Ask him.
V: In fact I did.
V: I have the gist of your background.
V: But I vvant your side of the story.
S: Why? It won't be different from the other.
V: Only the leader has the full grasp of a story.
S: The leader? You mean me?
V: VVho else. (-.-’)
S: Hahahaha xD
S: You’re not serious.
S: I am no leader. XD
V: You sure? That seemed pretty obvious to me…
S: We don’t really have a leader.

S: And if there was one, it would most likely be Xavier or Nami.
V: …
V: If you say so.
V: But I still vvant your side of the story.
S: Hum… Nop.
V: Please!
S: Okay, I am willing to answer a question.
S: But you’ll have to tell me more about you first.
V: Sigh… VVhat do you vvant to knovv?
S: Who are you?
V: I guess I can ansvver that. I am Valentine, Champion of Kindness.
S: Seriously… Kindness?
S: And is this even a real class?
V: Hey! Don’t judge my title!
V: For your information, it’s one of the most povverful title you can possibly get.
V: Anyvvay.
V: Let’s talk about you.
V: I heard about the main event.
V: Hovv did you survived that?
S: Luck.
S: And I had good friends.
V: Not so fast, the others told you saved a lot of other kids. I can see hovv your friend managed to do that, but you? There must be something else, or you vvould need an astronomical amount of luck.
S: That’s my thing.
V: You’re being silly.
S: I’m serious.
S: We tested it.
S: I tried to guess the outcome of a dice a thousand times in a row. And I got 50% right.
S: And I am good at guessing things.
S: Think about a number between 1 and 10.
V: Seriously? (-.-)
V: Okay, done.
S: You thought about 8.
V: Nop.
S: 14?
V: ...
V: Second try, it doesn't count.
S: Hehe
V: Come on, luck is not a talent.
S: Where I come from it is.
S: Everyone has at least one inner talent.
V: VVovv…. that’s cool. (°o°)
V: You all have superpovver!
S: ...not really.
S: Well, the others are all super strong and all, so maybe you are right.
V: You’re strong too. (^.^)
S: I am just a normal person who trained a lot.
S: It’s a complicated story…
S: I don’t think I can relate it in a chat log.
V: Of course you can :p
V: And it’s not like vve can meet in person anyvvay.
S: …
S: Okay, here’s a résumé.
S: We don’t know why, but most kids in our town had amazing i-talent. For instance, at age 6, Xavier could break beam steel barehanded and Nami was reviewing university material at the library. And many were even more powerful. Long story short, the adults were scared of the new generation, and we had to run away. Some managed to escape, including the seven of us.
V: I see… That should have been quite the traumatism…
S: Yeah… but we managed to get back on our feet. So we’re fine now.
S: Well, sort of… considering the quest.
V: Does that mean all your friend have better "i-talent" than you.
V: I have to say, this name is stupid.
S: They all have at least great strength and speed, on top of another talent. As for myself, I am just good at guessing and throwing dice.
V: Damn…
V: I feel like your group is cheating the game.
S: Haha, you didn't see my sister then. XD
V: VVhy? (°?°)
S: Back on Earth, I personally named her i-talent “Ultimate Imitation”.
S: Basically, when she sees something, she can reproduce it. Be it a martial technique, a tone of voice, or even another i-talent. She can learn instantly to do anything. :p
V: VVovv… That's scary.
S: Genetics is really unfair. :p
S: Well, she also had a friend with something similar but...
S: Something happened. :/
V: I vvant the complete story novv! ( >. S: Not today, the sun is rising, and I believe the other resident will wake up soon.
S: And I believe I told you too many things already. :/
S: Next time it’s your turn.
S: Bye! : )
I put the book back in my pocket. She was acting a bit weird, usually, she doesn't seem to care about me. I wonder if something happened…
Well, it’s not like I care that much.

Time Can't Heal This
I've always hated the saying "Time heals all wounds." Maybe in most cases that may be true. In my experience with life and pain however, time has only ever bled out the wound. The scars that the wounds left behind though, are often so deep that just looking at them becomes painful to the mind. Time only heals what you let go of. Sometimes letting go and moving on just doesn't feel possible; no matter how much time you let pass you by.These poems signify what time hasn't healed for me.
