《In Search of a Protagonist》08 - Treehouse

"Maybe we can just walk outside for a while... and explore a bit?"
"Better than waiting doing nothing inside I guess… "
As soon as they made their plans and turned their backs to the house, Adel reopened the door and shouted in their direction..
"HEY" I'm not sure if this is a military society and its programmed in their genes, but right now their posture, straight back, feet together, arms on the side very tense and eyes focused on the person in charge is enough to make any military commander very envious of the training their received, even tho they did not.
"YES!" even the verbal answer was military-like… poor children…
"I forgot to give you this" threw two very small stones, and even while looking confused, both Zwei and Drei got the stones in the air with the utmost care as if their lives depended on it, which may as well be true given Adel's mood right now.
"If you get lost use the Ejwel to find your way here again." I'm assuming this small stone is the Ejwel and it does something to help us get back if we are ever lost, but WHAT?… and HOW do we use it? None of us has ever seen this shit, even if I had, I can't interect with them… and Adel is already turning to get back home… is she actually stupid? Someone ask her!
Not Zwei or Drei had the courage to interrupt her and ask… we are fucked if we ever get lost… and it can totally happen, if Drei is as bad with direction as I was, we are dead.
"Hey... Zwei, do you know how to use this thing?"
"Not a clue, it's the first time I see this... Ejwel?"
"What do we do now?"
"We can just NOT get lost.."
"I guess we can" And just like that they are now stuck with exploring this city's sector while holding (on their hands, since they do not process pockets while naked) a grape size magical stone that noone one knows how to use. Thank you Adel.
"..."
"Want to give up exploring and just wait inside?"
"Not really, I was actually happy to be able to walk outside..."
"Yea… me too…"
"Then… let's go?"
"Yea..."
"..."
"..."
They were in a sirius conflict there, wanting to go out but not know if they really should, took a good 5 or 10 minutes, not sure, of staring to the house's door hopping Adel would come back and explain things properly, but of course it did not happen, then they finally mustered up enough courage to go adventure in the city.

This city section is incredibly beautiful, well kept, clean and organized, but lacks anything seriously thrilling to do. Once you walk for a bit you can conclude that most houses are an exact copy of the other and there are few different buildings.
They did not try to enter any buildings or do anything out of place, both were just walking together sightseeing and that's it. Incredibly well behaved for children if you ask me. Still children, a new place that they do not know very well, a place that has several similar roads, several similar houses, and even though I saw some boards, that may or may not contain directions, none of us can actually read it, OF COURSE we are lost!
"It's not this one either Drei"
"I noticed… How can we be lost? We didn't even walk that far"
"I know, but it all looks the same, I don't know how to identify our house, we can only keep trying to enter and if the door opens then its the right one… "
"At least we confirmed that Adel was telling the truth and the doors don't open to just anyone?"
"Not a good way to confirm this if you ask me"
"I know, I'm just trying to be positive" They kept going for a while, trying to enter every house that they thought could be theirs…
"Should we try again to use this thing?"
"Try again what? We already tried to ask it with words, channel mana into it, ask again while sending mana, I don't know what else we can try that would not risk damage it"
"Hello there" We heard a voice coming from our backs and it scared the shit out of us, so much so that Drei almost dropped her useless stone.
"Hi" Zwei was the first to recover
It was, obviously at this point, a beautiful woman. Not too tall, probably shorter than Adel, silver hair, green skin…but what was most noticeable was… she had a very amigable attitude, so much so that it actually made us relax a bit.
"I noticed you trying to open several doors that you should not, what are you girls doing?"
"Looking for our home" Zwei responded very timidly, with a bit of fear in her voice.
"You lost?"
"Yes..."
"Didn't your tutor gave you a Ejwel before let you out?"
"She did" This time was Drei that answered

"Why don't you use it then?"
"..." None of them answered.. But I don't know why… She is being so nice to us, why are you afraid Drei??
"You don't have to be afraid of me, if you tell me I may be able to help, I promise I'll not get mad or tell your tutor" Oh, so nice, thank you lady.
"We… don't... know how..."
"You don't know what?" She looked a bit surprised.
"We don't know how to use the Ejwel, sorry"
"You don't have to be sorry dear, your tutor did not teach you?"
"I think… she forgot."
"Oh… Ahahahaha, one of the carefree types uhm... " She whispered, not intending for the girls to listen "Here, let me teach you"
She then proceeded to conjure out of thin air a Ejwel, or something that looked like one… That was so cool! Will Drei also learn how to do that? I'm not the only one impressed, both Zwei and Drei are looking at her hand with a lot of admiration.
"First time you see a call?"
"Yes!" They were a little happier now, smiling even.
"Don't worry, you will learn how to do this soon"
"Really?" I think Drei is more excited about this than normal…
"Yes, but here, let me show you how to use your Ejwel, take yours on your hand like this" Both copied her movements
"Then you send your mana in… you do know how to channel mana in right?"
"Yes"
"Good, then once it starts to glow like this, you close your hand… turn it upside down... touch the ground, with the same hand, just like this… and done!... you see this? This light leads straight to where the Ejwel you are using is connected. It will dissolve in a couple seconds once you remove your hand and stop the flow of mana, but you can just keep doing this until you find your destination... Now try it"
They both succeed in the first try and a glowing light pointed out straight to a house just a few meters away on the other side where we were.
"Oh, you were so close!" The look of defeat on Drei and Zwei faces… they very much skipped that part because 'it was obviously wrong'. I can only laugh and silently support them, I too agreed that it was not that way… how wrong were we?
"Thank you miss"
"Oh, right, I did not introduce myself. I'm Emma di Beatrice, generation 844" Oh, she is the oldest person we met so far, but definitely does not look like it, her physical appearance suggest the same age as Adel or Mia. Maybe they don't age normally? Not surprising, their 'newborn' is like a 10 years old child that can grow up by the day… yep, not surprising.
"Hi Emma, I'm Zwei di Adel, generation 866"
"Hello Emma, I'm Drei di Adel, generation 866"
"Hi, so… I work on that building over there" she pointed to one place that did not help much "That different one, not the houses" Oh, sorry, that was actually really easy to see from here. "you can enter there anytime during the day, if you need help you can go look for me ok?, I need to go now"
"Thank you Emma!" They said together
"You're most welcome, now, go on to your house"
"Yes!" And they happily left in the right direction, knowing where to go is a lot easier. Emma turned and walked in the opposite direction, probably to the building she pointed earlier.
Once we touched the door, it magically opened, like it was waiting for us. There was none in the living room, glad that it was not sundown yet, and Adel was not here, we went directly to our room to rest a bit, all of us being mentally tired of being lost and all that.
I don't know about Zwei, but Drei slept as soon as she got in the bed. I am tired but not too much, so I'm keeping myself awake for no good reason.
Not 20 minutes of tranquil rest and someone knocked on the door. Not a light normal knock, but a strong one followed by Adel's voice calling us… Drei woke up.
"Drei, come down right now" a few seconds later we could hear the same thing coming from Zwei's room.
Is Adel angry with us? WHY?

School-life & Swordfights: A Clubs and Stubs Tale
Warning: Clubs and Stubs contains strong language and situations throughout that may not be suitable for younger readers. "This story takes place in a fantasy world with a modernish setting. It mainly follows four students of Hardires High School who are members of one of the greatest Team Arena Squads in the history of gladiatorial school athletics. Already two-time high-school world champions, they have entered their fourth and final year of high school in hopes of capturing a third straight world championship—something that no other school on the continent has accomplished. As they prepare for an upcoming match with a rival school, it becomes evident that keeping their two-and-a-half-year winning streak alive will be tougher than expected. As both personal and external problems abound for the student-gladiators, can they manage to keep it together under the constant pressure of being the perfect fighting unit? A blend of action, drama, adventure, and humor collide in this brand-new series!" Thanks so much for checking out my story! This is the first time that I've released any of my work to a public space so any feedback, be it positive or negative (but please be respectful if so) would be greatly appreciated. I'm hoping that this story is only the beginning of a long-running series of short stories set in the Clubs and Stubs universe. Temporary Book Cover Design by David Watson The release schedule is rather tentative, but the goal is to release a chapter every 2-4 days. I want to make sure that every scene is the best it can be before it’s released, so it may take a bit longer especially if it's a longer chapter. However, no chapter should take more than a week to be released. Each scene varies in length, but are usually between 1,000 to 2,000 words.
