《Atlas Awakens》Chapter 1- And When He Awoke

Kye didn’t want for much growing up. His family was the very prestigious Marken household. They held a majority share in the massive conglomerate of the God's Wisdom company, with his father being the CEO of the entire conglomerate and his mother running one of the smaller businesses in the group. It wouldn't be a mistake to say that Kye was expected to be great because of his parents accomplishments and everyone in the extended family held very high expectations for him when he grew older. To exacerbate matters of expectation, both of his parents had divine blessings from very prominent gods of the Northern and Mediterranean pantheons, his father having been given blessings from Odin and his mother from Athena. Both gods of wisdom and foresight, but also capable warriors in their own right. This extended to his parents as well who were very intelligent and wise business owners and were once powerful warriors that fought through the depths of the dungeon in the City of Gods, Agartha. His father, Ashton, was a prolific spear user with the ability to cast lighting from his hands and spear following closely in the path of Odin's own combat capabilities. His most feared power, however, was that of the skill [Odin's Premonition] which allowed him to read a person or creatures actions before they did them, allowing him to perfectly counter them. Alicia, his mother, was a tank and despite her looks, is a hardy warrior who took the vanguard position alongside her husband in their attempts to conquer the dungeon. Her main abilities come from Athena's teaching of defence and her main strength came from the skill [Indomitable Bulwark] which formed an impenetrable barrier on her shield and blocked all forms of damage.
Kye had been blessed at birth, but no one knew what god or goddess had blessed him as this was only revealable at his 10th birthday, which so happened to be tomorrow. It was common for a child to inheret one skill from each parent and then had the ability to foster their own strength through their blessing. If he was in luck, he would be blessed by one of the many gods and goddesses that had decended to the mortal world and now resided in the seven satelite cities that worked with Agartha. This would allow him to receive training from the clan of the god or goddess who blessed him and better capitalise on his blessing.

"It would be great to have a blessing from a powerful god, I want to be strong!"
Kye exclaimed from the backseat of a luxurious car. The servants of his parents house had always been very kind to him growing up and none of them were kinder than his nanny, Martha.
"You have surely been blessed by a very powerful being Young Master Kye."
She smiled and gently stroked his ashen hair gently. Kye liked this feeling very much and had a contented smile on his face. One might assume that having parents who are CEO's would make growing up a lonely experience but, despite all the business of their daily lives, Ashton and Alicia always made time for their darling son every day, even if this meant having him driven to their office so they could spend time together. This was the exact scenario they found themselves in today, as Kye's birthday was not a celebration that they would miss, they had worked extra hard the week following to make sure they would have all day tomorrow to spend with their son. The car gently pulled up outside the main office of the God's Wisdom group. The driver, Sebastian, opened the door for Kye and smiled at him gently as he got out of the car.
"Thanks Sebastian."
Kye said with a smile before quickly scampering to join Martha. The old driver simply smiled and closed the door before re-entering the drivers seat to park the car elsewhere. Martha held out her hand for Kye as he took it and began humming a strange tune. They made their way up to reception where the young lady behind the desk smiled lightly before directing her attention to Kye.
"And what may I do for you this day, Young Master Kye?"
Without hesitating, Kye responded with a glowing smile.
"I'm here to see Dad and Mum!"
With a nod, the receptionist pressed a button on her desk phone as two short rings sounded out before being cut off by a firm but gentle male voice.
"Yes?"
"Sir, this is reception, your son is here to see you and the Madam."
"Haha, good. Send them up please."
"Certainly sir."
She hung the phone up before handing Kye a gold card for the executive elevator.

"Please take the black elevator in the foyer Young Master."
"Thank you reception lady!"
Kye said as he grasped the gold card with both hands to make sure she didn't lose it. She smiled and bowed her head a little before going back to clacking away on her keyboard. Martha and Kye made their way to the foyer were several desks for consulation were set up and at the very end of the large foyer were a set of elevators. There were 5 elevators with a standard stainless steel plating that accessed the normal offices, and a single black steel plated one that accessed the top floor only. Arriving in front of the black elevator Kye held up the gold card to the large muscular men who were running security.
"Oh, hello Young Master, here to visit your Dad?"
"Yes sir, i'm here to see my Mum and Dad!"
Both guards let out short grunts of laughter before swiping the gold card for him. As the elevator opened they both bowed to him.
"Have a nice time Young Master."
"Thank you sir!"
Kye dutifully responded. They both gave short bows as the elevator doors closed and they quickly left the ground. The doors opened to reveal a spacious office with some white leather couches and a large mahogony desk with the pleather bound office chair in which sat a man who was about 189cm tall and had short swept ashen hair that gave off a messy yet sophisticated look, almost like a male model. He had stark green eyes just like Kye and wore a forever present faint smile. Despite only being in his mid 40's he carried the air of someone who was twice that age. This man was Kye's father, Ashton Marken. He was dressed in an immaculate grey suit with a white undershirt that framed his rather lithe but powerful body perfectly. It was like his very presence in the room demanded your attention. Well, at least it would if it wasnt for the white suited beauty seated on the couch nursing a warm cup of coffee. Her long hair reached the middle of her back and it hung effortlessly off her shoulder framing her beautiful face perfectly with it's blone coluring giving her pale blue eyes an amazing contrast. Her own suit was that of a typical office working woman with a neat buttoned shirt and a form fitting skirt that reached just above her knees. This woman was, of course, Kye's mother Alicia Marken and her facial expression was that of a calm sage, giving nothing away in her expression.
"Mum, Dad, i'm here!"
Kye exclaimed as he made his way over to his father. Both of their expressions lit up into smiles as the presence of their son pleased them greatly. Ashton stood up and scooped the young boy up in his arms before taking a seat next to his wife on the couch. The both of his parents hugged him tightly as they sat with their son between them both on the couch, the picture perfect happy family.
"Hey my boy, how was your day?"
"Good Dad, i completed that maths work that the teacher set yesterday and did all my physical drills with the teachers in the yard."
Ashton ruffled Kye's hair laughing softly.
"Thats my son. Are you excited for your birthday tomorrow?"
"Yeah I am but i'm also kinda worried."
A small frown found the faces of his parents before Alicia spoke up.
"Why are you worried darling?"
"Well, i heard some of the teachers saying how everyone has high expectations of me and I don't want to let anyone down."
A wry smile found Ashton's face before tightening his hug.
"I'm sure you will do fine Kye, but even if you end up with a blessing that doesn't meet those expectations, you're still our son and we'll always love you."
"Thats right Kye, we're your parents, we'll always love and care for you."
Surrounded by the warmth of his parents, Kye's worries faded from his mind as he enjoyed their family time.
-
That night as Kye laid in bed, the thoughts of his blessing never left his mind. All he could do is offer a silent prayer to the gods asking them to take care of him tomorrow. For it was when he awoke, that his life truly began.

The Huntsman's Quest (An Urban Magic Quest/RPG)
Jon Whitaker went to summer camp expecting a nice relaxing time as a newly minted counselor in training. He was not expecting to fight an army of monsters, work with a serial killer, enter a one-sided friendship with an eldritch horror, or study under a competing witch and dark lord. But regardless of what he was expecting, his summer is over and he's made his way back home where he can try and return to a normal -for him- life. Too bad life rarely goes as expected. --- Please Note: This is forum quest/RPG I run in the same city/setting as my other stories Hacking Reality and Get Ink'd, meaning that while a majority of the plot is made up by me, the major choices as well as what each chapter is about are usually made by the actual readers in forum votes. Additionally, given how this is essentially a story version of a Tabletop game there is also a background RPG system that while the characters aren't necessarily aware of, the readers can see these stats to know how each chosen 'Action' effects their character's development.

Ashley cheered, "but you could spice it up a bit. I mean, you barely even mentioned us." "The one with the power makes the rules and the intros," Avery admonished.

Stairway to Heaven
Humans are complicated, awfully fragile beings, far too weak to survive amid the other extraterrestrials that lie dormant across the galaxies. Instead of physical altercations, they would rather engage in verbal abuse, breaking an individual's psyche as a hobby. They excel at deception and manipulation, far too interested in bringing their brothers and sisters down and reaching for the top of their self-made hierarchies. Beyond their questionable nature and moral compasses, they long to find meaning in their lives and put names to the feelings that drive each passing moment. They are insatiable—far too greedy for more knowledge and a supposed understanding of their lives. It's pitiable, really, the way they struggle to find themselves while ravaging their kind through petty wars and conflicts built off of misunderstanding. Humans are complicated, awfully fragile beings. They created words and languages to fill the holes that lived inside their souls, desperate for ways to find meaning in their incredibly short lifespans. They'll waste their entire lives trying to find their so-called passions and reasons for living, acting as if they truly rule the way their lives go, supposed "controllers of their own destiny." Yet, they cannot evade the inevitable visit from death, who stands next to them, ticking the seconds down until their demise.

The Unified States of Mana
My name is Kyra Baker, I’m 20 years old and a university student, and recently I’ve been offered a scholarship to a definitely-not-shady magical academy. A ‘support device’ I was given shows me a list of classes I can take, all involving mana, magic, and Skills with a capital S. To get there I was lumped into a ship full of strange and alien creatures, jumping between worlds as we pick up more and more hapless ‘students’. Things were starting to make a little sense, until the ship crashed into an alien world. Now, I might be getting trained as a rebel soldier, or something? Looking on the bright side, I haven’t gotten this much exercise in a long time and there are plenty of cute girls around. When I develop some Skills and work on my classes, maybe I’ll become strong enough to actually have the time to flirt with them. ~ One of the few surviving records thought to be written by the Empress before her rise to power.
