《God of Evolution》Chapter 1: New world, New life
Advertisement
Darkness was at the beginning and end of all life, it lay in the background unseen and unfeeling. To some a driving force, to others an ancient evil but right now it was simply the only thing that could be seen. The blanket of thick blackness seemed to be twisting and turning and slowly becoming a putrid mass of dark light. The foul and disgusting black parts faded and what rested in the middle of the dark cocoon was a baby with heavy eyes that blinked once or twice before slamming shut. It's skin was pale as snow and had eyes of scarlet roses accompanied with small strands of deathly black hair. The void slowly vanished as the child levitated down into a crimson pit of blood, the baby was situated in a tomb of sorts, souls that had wandered for a millennia permeated the air whilst bones and dust settled on the floor. The blood was dazzling as though it was harvested from a mythical being with it still slowly moving as if it was a lake in the spring. With each ripple light would shine and create this gruesome scene more desirable.
The baby had yet to truly awake from what could have been an endless slumber, it simply rested in the blood, feeling at home in the warmth of the currents. The blood was no taller than 1 inch making it a perfect depth for this child to sleep in.
Time seemed to pass at an incredibly slow speed with no possible way of telling when it was day or night. However what was an instant to the infant was 6 years to the outside world and on the first day of the sixth year since the child had arrived, the crimson pit started to condense. The blood coagulated inside the now six year old child and disappeared without a trace, all light was now almost extinct returning to the dark void that existed before.
Scarlet red eyes suddenly opened making the endless void disappear, the eyes themselves glowed eradicating the infinite blackness surrounding them. In the centre of the now barren room stood a small six year old boy, lost and unaware of his surroundings.
'What is going on.' The boy started to think, something odd considering the child should technically have the mind of a first born.
Looking around the boy observed the bleak environment he found himself in, then looking at his lack of attire and small stature.
'I am Lucius Chevalier Valroyeaux, Heavenly Death Lord and Master of the Sword. I achieved Heavenly Star Realm at the age of 22 and was a legend across the World of Pavarion. Yet here I stand as a young child with no skills nor martial power. A young genius one step away from Divine God Realm turned into a brat, how has this happened.' The boy was physically a six year old but mentally Lucius, a genius martial Cultivator who was a soon to be a god.
'I remember challenging a Divine God Realm expert so I could absorb their Divine flame and reach the next realm, I had ripped the divine flame from the experts body but before I could devour it I was enveloped in pure darkness and now I'm here. For someone like me who was seconds away from attaining god hood to become a child really is a sick joke.'

'Well no use dwelling on it I need to get out of this tomb as soon as possible.' Lucius walked over to a pile of bones that had a cloak, rags and loincloth sprawled across them, picking it up Lucius wrapped the cloth around his waist and put the cloak over his shoulders.
[Necron Cloak Equipped]
[Ragged Shirt Equipped]
[Loincloth Equipped]
Lucius jumped in surprise at the sudden appearance of a screen in front of his eyes, with its disappearance Lucius became curious as to what he just witnessed. Calling out for it to reappear hoping it was something he had control of and with the word open, it did. What lay before his eyes was a large screen that had a list of several categories, each making Lucius even more confused than the last.
[Name - Lucius
Age: 6
Level: 1
Stats:
Vitality- 20/20
Endurance- 20/20
Strength- 25
Dexterity- 25
Spirit- 10
Spirit Power- 100/100
Evolution:
Fledgling Bloodeater - A human that has begun their transformation into something monstrous, only through blood can one evolve further.
Skills:
Unique:
Divine Flame(Dormant) - Godly flame that lays in wait to be awakened
Rebirths Rage lvl 1- With a new life comes the anger of unfinished business in the old world. Heavenly Star Realm power revitalizes stamina and strength.
Bloodeater:
Feast lvl 1- Ingest blood to satiate hunger and boost Endurance and Strength stats.
Equipment:
Necron Cloak- Evolving Armour capable of summoning stored souls.
• Summon Lesser Demon Eye - A demon eye capable of weak mental attacks
Loincloth - Basic loincloth to cover waist
Basic Rag Shirt - A shirt made of rags.]
Lucius was bewildered by this screen in front of him but it seemed to detail all his traits, strength and equipment. He could now see that he was not a human but a Bloodeater, some sort of humanoid monster that feasts on blood to get stronger. He also noticed he seemed to retain his past life's cultivation and divine flame despite the very limited access to it. But it must be stated that in Lucius' old world even a fraction of Heavenly Star Realm power was devastating, so being able to nourish his six year old body with it was a huge gain.
There were two others things that stood out to Lucius, one being the fact that he was level one, even coming from a martial world he could surmise what this meant and second was this cloak he found himself wearing. When he first put it on it felt like it shrunk so as to fit it's new master which seemed to have been the case as it's detailed as a living piece of armour. it's special skill also looked like it would come in handy.
Lucius stopped thinking about the screen and it soon vanished showing that it was mentally opened and closed. Following that he toyed with the cloak as well as testing out this so called spirit he had. Lucius found that spirit was much similar to martial power and ordered it into the cloak, at which point small dazzling lightening tendrils coalesced into a small demonic eye with a meaty tail extending behind it.

Lucius was sure that he was in a new world he already felt off being unable to sense martial power but after everything he's seen so far he is now more than convinced. Realising he couldn't just stay in this tombs room he walked towards a door that seemed to be the exit.
Opening the door, Lucius left the tomb looking around all he could see was a dark passage way in front of him. In the middle of the hall way was an odd looking skeleton, firstly it was alive which wasn’t much of a surprise to Lucius as reanimation was possible in his old world but what did surprise him was how it seemed there was flesh of beasts almost alive within the skeletons ribs. The face of the skeleton also had a flesh substance writhing across it.
'What is that? A cross between an undead human and beast perhaps?' Lucius questioned what type of being could be in front of him and as if the world heard him a sudden message appeared in front of Lucius' eyes.
[Appraisal Lvl 1 learned]
As if staring at the creature with intent made this skill suddenly appear out of thin air. Lucius could guess what the skill entailed but still checked his status.
[Unique:
Appraisal Lvl 1 - Identify Lesser Life forms and objects]
Lucius could now study low level creatures and items which he was sure would come in handy to develop ways to deal with enemies. Moreover whilst looking at his Status Screen he realised that he remained at 90/100 Spirit Power meaning the summoning of the demon eye required constant spirit power expenditure. So with a thought the Demon eye slowly dissipated into the cloak, returning the spirit power back to normal.
'Alright let's find out what this hideous creature is and whether or not it will help me level up' Lucius assumed Appraisal would work by simply staring at something with the intent to appraise it. Thus a small screen once again appeared before Lucius eyes.
[Reanimated Apparition-
A creature that was once alive now only contains a chaotic mess of emotions and instinctual drive to feed.
Stats:
Vitality- 30
Endurance- 15
Strength- 15
Dexterity- 5
Spirit- 0
Spirit Power- 0]
'It seems pretty weak but then again I'm in the body of a six year old, it shouldn't be able to do any special attacks without spirit, basically a foot soldier. But then again in my past life I would guess foot soldiers would have at least ten to a hundred times more power.' Lucius walked closer to the creature and when he was about fifteen meters away the skeleton turned to face him.
With a growl it began its charge, but with five points of dexterity it was like a jog or a stumbling walk. Lucius didn't have his past life cultivation nor body but still retained fighting techniques at least enough to fight a monster compared to a drunken fool.
With a swing of its arm the apparition aimed for Lucius' face but with five times better dexterity Lucius found it easy to manoeuvre around the creature and threw a punch at its jaw from side on, thinking logically a skeletons head shouldn't be very secure on its brittle neck bone. Yet this world wasn't a very logical one from the beginning as all Lucius' punch achieved was the shattering of the right jaw, which would be a deadly move utilised on a human but against this skeleton? May as well have tickled the monster.
Lucius didn't stop there just because he didn't kill it in one shot, pushing his small and agile body underneath the skeletons reach, Lucius performed a powerful uppercut that would at least disorientate the creature and yet to Lucius' surprise the Apparition who was essentially moving in slow motion grabbed Lucius and held him in a bear hug squeezing tighter and tighter. The skeletons high Vitality clearly made it a tough opponent for Lucius who was technically stronger but he was still flesh an bone and would fell every inch of pain. If you felt no pain and had bones of steel it was just a waiting game to catch your opponent.
With Lucius now finding it hard to breath staring into the empty husk that was the Undead, he attempted a last resort attack, he began biting at the flesh on the Apparitions face. No matter how foul or disgusting it was he needed to use his Feast skill to become stronger and to replenish his stamina. If he had time he could have activated Rebirths Rage but he found that it is very draining to use, naturally it would erase that feeling once it was used but the process leading up to it requires simply too much stamina, which he certainly could not spare at the moment.
Gorging on the rotten flesh some black ink slithered down Lucius' throat. The liquid was actually blood and as soon as it was in his body he could feel his strength and stamina return, breaking free from the hold and retreating back a few steps.
This time Lucius wasn't going to underestimate his opponent so with a thought his demon eye was summoned and was sent to distract the skeleton. With its usual slow reactions back it found it hard to damage the demon eye. Whilst this happened Lucius charged at full speed utilising his now 26 points of strength and dexterity, with the speed multiplying his initial attack Lucius punched the skeleton right in the middle of the chest and with a downward motion smacked it into the ground. Still the creature remained alive, but with an unconscious use of appraisal Lucius could now see the once 30 points of Vitality down to a measly 5. Not wanting to drag the fight out any longer Lucius started to bend the apparition neck, feeling to weak he continued feeding on the flesh around the Creature and soon after a loud crack was heard throughout the passage. Lucius had managed to finally break the skeletons head off.

Yin-Yang
Mages in North America seem to have it all – typically from well-off families, and able to manipulate their environment in ways most of the world would never believe. They don’t even have to bother with the mundane details of life like housework, thanks to their sensitives, who also make a useful source for extra magical energy. After all, sensitives have no use for it themselves, and if mages weren’t meant to make use of it, then the sensitives would obviously have some way to prevent that. That a mage can transform a sensitive physically, with no restrictions beyond overall mass and basic biological viability, whereas magic tends not to work directly on any other living thing, is only further proof. And look at the way they live on their own, barely a step above animals. It’s better for them to belong to a mage. Sensitives in North America live on the edge of society and survival – typically so paranoid they avoid hospitals and anything else that could lead to being tracked, many of them with little or no education and no legal identity or existence. Mages exist, and mages want sensitives for some reason, but no one ever comes back to explain what that reason is. Waiting every day for the hunters to notice them doesn’t lead to much motivation or hope for the future. And once they’re captured, they’re the property of someone with a terrifying amount of power over them. Anything is better than capture. Mages are born to be the masters, and sensitives are born victims. Or are they? Jax’s life is turned upside-down when he’s caught by the hunters and sold to a mage. Andreas is still mourning for his previous sensitive, though, unconsciously creating a difficult standard for Jax to live up to, all the more so while still struggling to come to terms with this new reality as Andreas’ sensitive. A runaway sensitive isn’t what Van expects at the mental health centre. Is this a hunter trap, set for him and the rest of the Donovan family by the hunters? The hunters would, after all, love to see them cross the line openly and finally do something they can be charged with. Either way, Miranda’s genuinely in trouble, and he can’t just abandon her to it. Snatching a sensitive out from under the hunters and hiding her is odd behaviour for a mage – but then, Catherine is an odd mage, living in disgrace in the old servants’ quarters of her grandmother’s house, responsible for cooking and housework. Lila owes Catherine her freedom; is there a way to help Catherine achieve her own, and at what price? Tension is building between traditionally-minded mages and those advocating change, and something has to break. *** Yin-Yang includes a small amount of profanity and no graphic sex or on-screen physical violence. However, sex and gender roles and relationships within the mage/sensitive subculture are non-traditional in mainstream North American terms. The key criterion in a primary relationship is not relative sex or gender, but the pairing of mage and sensitive; given the transformation of sensitives by their mages, physical sex is non-absolute for a sensitive, and gender identity can vary as in anyone else. *** *** The way mages treat sensitives is extremely varied and, in some cases is outright abusive. The struggle against that is pretty much the point of the book. It is NOT grimdark or misery-porn! However, if you will be triggered by this, please, don't read Yin-Yang! *** Complete stand-alone novel, 153K words! Also available on Scribble Hub and as a free ebook.
