《Love at First Theft》11. Steal the Traitor

Jesus fucking Christ. Why does he have to pull this?
Mei and I stood in a defensive pose while the guard that ran for him was petrified behind him. Nick was being smart. If he shoots the statue, that would affect everybody, unlike if he only shot one person. If he shot me, for example, that would make an opening for someone to grab the statue. But, he wasn't counting on one thing.
As I pulled out a gun of my own, everyone's face in the room was drained of color, especially the other gun-wielding maniac in front of me.
"Since when did you carry a gun?" Nick asked in what ended up being a hoarse whisper due to the fact that the gun in question was being aimed right between his eyes.
"For a while, just as a precaution. I never did trust you," I stared him down and after a minute he knew I was serious, so he lowered his gun, still in his hand.
"Fine. You win. I surrender," but I still held my gun up until he dropped his.
"Mei, can you make sure?" I nodded my head in his direction and she went to pat him down. She reached into his coat to pull out two more guns, a smoke grenade, and a little remote that probably detonates something. She placed them on the ground carefully far away from Nick.
"Are we done?" We heard Blake's voice over the PA.
"Nah, let's wait until the police come!" I yelled, so he could here me from down to there.
"The police!? What about us?" This time I heard Flynn's voice.
"It's fine! They dont know who we are! They haven't caught us yet, right?"
"Fine," Flynn reluctantly said.

As we waited for the sirens to finally come in front of the museum, Nick asked to sit down. Hesitantly, I agreed, still with my gun pointed at him. When he lowered himself he pushed the statue off of the podium.
"Oh shit!" I cried out. I lunged for the falling piece of art, but the previously frozen guard dove for it and beat me to it.
"Thank God," the guard said under his breath. Nick clicked his tongue and looked irritated, but he didn't say anything. I glared at him and put the gun to his temple.
"You have no idea how fucking long I've been wanting to do this, you traitor," I stared right at him and even though he was terrified before, he seemed calm. He didn't look at me and he stayed quiet.
After a minute, the police stormed the building and forced us all do put our hands up.
Mei sighed. This is going to take awhile, but the guard saw what Nick did and the security footage was on our side... then I remembered what I yelled to Flynn: "It's fine! They dont know who we are! They haven't caught us yet, right?"
Shiiiiiiiiiit. I can rely on the cameras to not have picked that up, but I can't say the same for the guard. The other guards on the far side of the room probably also heard. This is going to be interesting.
Some of the officers broke off from the group and ran downstairs, most likely to see if anyone else was here and/or to check out the footage.
The guard placed the statue back onto its podium and was called over by one of the officers who looked like the head of the group. He took him outside and all we could do is wait.

After 5 minutes, they came back and the officer walked up to Nick and asked him to turn around so he could cuff him. As he was going over his Miranda rights, I mentally took a breath of relief. He told another guard to go get Rhett and arrest him too. I guess in his panic he didn't really interpret what I yelled to Flynn.
The officers from downstairs came up without anything.
Thank God. Everyone hid somewhere so the police didn't know.
Another officer talked to us and asked us if anything else happened and Mei responded, "Nope. The only thing is that I suspect that the guy over there in the mask," just motions to Rhett, "was just a hostage that the other guy was using"
"Okay," the officer gave a small laugh. "I'll look into it." With that, he walked away, but not before telling us to come along with him. "Standard procedure with witnesses."
"Sure, but can we tell our family first? So they don't worry," I asked.
"Yes, but we can do that down at the station."
Now we followed him into ourside and into the police car.
Well then. That was quite an interesting day.
