《Incoming Chaos on the Immortal World》Chapter 6 - No Qi for Me??!!

“MY BODY REJECTED QI??!!”
“Yeah sorry to say this Tethra, but I think your body is not suited to learn qi” Elder Pan said after seeing Tethra using foundation qi method for the first time. Truthfully, Elder Pan himself didn’t expect this result. At most, an untalented people was able to absorb qi at a very slow rate. But, there were no cases where the body itself rejected qi.
“No, no, no, don’t go my dreams!” Tethra chased after a flying dream shaped like a butterfly in his mind. In front of Elder Pan, Tethra still looked just the same as before, but with a more frustated face.
“NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO” The butterfly in Tethra’s mind kept getting farther and farther without him being able to catch it.
Let’s rewind the time a little bit, in short, after doing all the procedure for entering a sect, Tethra could borrow a foundation qi method from the library to study qi breathing for the first time. Then after that progressed, they would see Tethra’s talent. If he was not talented enough, he would be moved to research technology with the other technology diciples. Technology? Yeah, you didn’t misread. In this sect, they learn all sorts of things, just like a university, but without all the boring lectures plus exams, and more practical learning.
So if Tethra’s talent was not enough, he would be moved to the Technology Faculty, and Elder Pan was here to oversee Tethra because he was the one who brought him here outside of recruitment schedule. Although Elder Pan didn’t hope for one in a million years talent, he too didn’t expect that Tethra would be this bad with qi.
“Uhh, Tethra there are many faculties here that you can go to except the cultivation and combat. You can choose others, maybe you would find your talent there” Elder Pan felt bad for Tethra, but what could he do? He couldn’t raise one’s talent like the immortals from the legends.
Elder Pan suddenly got an idea. Even though most of the faculties here didn’t need qi, there was one faculty that needed qi too to master and it didn’t need qi from the body, it just needed qi from the atmosphere. Seeing that Tethra really wanted to utilize qi that badly, Elder Pan saw that inviting him was not a bad choice. Besides, he was the Faculty Head of that one.

“Tethra, why don’t you go to my faculty, the Rune faculty. Here you don’t need to absorb qi to be able to utilize it, we all use the qi from the atmosphere to make runes, moreover, I’m the one-” Hearing that, Tethra’s head suddenly turned sideward, staring at the Elder with sparkling eyes. Elder Pan got startled by the immense mood switch.
“Bring me there! I want to enter there!” Tethra grabbed Elder Pan’s hand and pulled him outside of the cultivation room before he even finished his sentences.
In the courtyard of the cultivation temple, everyone could see Elder Pan being pulled by a freshman outside. They wondered what kind of freshmen dared to pull an Elder that roughly.
“Huh, what a rude freshman! Dared to pull an Elder’s hand like that!”
“Yeah, luckily it’s Elder Pan, if it’s the other Elder, he would instantly be kicked out of sect.”
The old disciples all made a commotion about the new rude freshman. Meanwhile, the person himself didn’t care about all of that and was still running toward a building.
“Wait Tethra, wait! Do you even know where the building for Rune faculty?” Elder Pan forcibly stopped Tethra for a while. Tethra got pulled backwards and almost fell. Luckily he stabilized himself at the right time.
“Uhh, no?” Elder Pan almost coughed out blood. Then why the hell did he pulled him like that??!!
“It’s this way, come, let me guide you there” Elder Pan kindly guided Tethra to the right way, the exact opposite of the direction where Tethra pulled Elder Pan. Tethra, without shame, walked right beside Elder Pan while asking questions on the way there.
“How the Rune faculty doesn’t use qi from the body to create Rune, Elder?” Actually Tethra already guessed an answer, but still asked in case the way to use atmosphere qi in this world was different from what he had read on Chinese novels.
“Well, I didn’t really know the history about it because there are many theories. In practice actually, there is only one method that is commonly used by almost all Runemasters in this world. It is the Qi Attraction Finger method. This method makes use of the qi around your forefinger, then make it attract some qi in the atmosphere to coat your forefinger. After that, you can use the forefinger-coated qi to draw runes. Actually using the method is the easiest step, the next steps are harder, and that’s why there were not many rune masters in this world”

Tethra concluded that the method worked mostly the same from the first step. Just as he was about to do some experiment, he saw a building in front of him. The building is not massive, it is rather small compared to the other buildings in this sect. The building has a wooden name sign and looks like a clean run down bar, just without the hole and cracks. Tethra guessed they probably enhanced the building with runes so the building is strong and has no flaws.
“Welcome to the Rune faculty, Tethra. I’m the faculty head here, but sadly i can’t teach you directly. I can only direct you for the first time and then i will be off. I have too many things to do” Elder Pan lead Tethra inside the building. The inside of the building is very dark. From the darkness, Tethra could see that even the wall and the ceiling are painted black. There is no furniture to speak of, everyone inside was either standing or sitting down and using a qi-coated finger to write runes in front of them.
The wall from all side is also filled with mostly different kinds of rune characters. Using them as a base, the people inside concentrated with all their mind to create new Runic phrases or Runic sentences. The scene of a dark room filled with light coated fingers and lighted up Runic characters in the air was very beautiful. Tethra really liked this place. It really looked like Friche’s lab, and he liked being there because it was fun doing a lot of experiment.
“They are all trying to make Runic characters become a runic work. A Runic Work is the result of a combination of Runic characters that can create an effect to the surrounding. For example, there is a Runic Work where fireball will come out of the runes and there is also a Runic Work which can summon an item out of nowhere temporarily. Many kinds of Runic characters exist and the job of the disciples here is to make new Runic Works from all the other runic characters here by experimenting with them. All of them really liked runes, so they find experimenting with new things really exciting” Elder Pan slowly looked toward Tethra to see his expression. Most of the people that first came here became bored in just a while and they all left.
“Usually Runemasters use Runic Works to enhance weapons or armors, they rarely battle because they are researching Runic Works. That’s why people rather join Cultivation faculty or Combat faculty” Elder Pan wore a wry smile on his face. Even though he really liked runes, most people only interested in combats nowadays. As Elder Pan looked at Tethra’s face, he could only see confusion, not curiosity or bored expression. Usually, new people showed curiosity or bored expression and in a rare case, they showed excited or interested expression. But Tethra’s face fully revealed his confusion even after Elder Pan explained it all.
The first time Tethra saw Runic Works from the teleportation spell, he felt familiarity but he didn’t see them clearly, only giving it a glance because it looked complicated. Then the second, he only saw that they were made of some kind of characters. This time, he really saw them clearly because they stood out inside a dark room and Tethra no longer felt familiarity from them, rather he knew them!
“The Runic Works that advanced this world this far were made from Hieroglyph??!!”

This is my third novel on Royal Road, the first being "Beyond the Horizon's Eye", and the second being "The Dawnfire Archives". This story is something of a test in a new genre, that of CardLIT. We'll see how well it succeeds as the story continues. It takes place in a different setting than my other tales, with an entirely new cast of characters. It does, however, contain several ties between the stories. Average post between 1000 - 3000 words.

Looking forward to any constructive criticism, however, i already have in mind, the entire plot and tone of the story, any revisions based on feedback will likely only be considered upon completion. This game is titled Outrage: Total Realism. Which was a joke made by the publishers knowing how most people would be either excited or enraged.
