《Warfare's Ultimate Frontier》Chapter 161 Helping Roxi

(BM) “How do you mean? I can’t use it because it can only be used by you?” Baron asked quite confusedly.
(RB) “It’s not just that this weapon requires one to go through a 12-step process to even turn it on, it’s that even if you knew how to do all that, you would need to have incredible aim to even begin to hit anything. Not only that, I have locked the weapon so that it can only be used by me unlocking it with the iris in my eye.” Roxi said with a hint of fulfillment in her eyes.
(BM) “That kind of technology is so far ahead of when I was back on earth. Tell me, how terrifying are the weapons of war just before you died?”
(RB) “Truth be told, mercenaries were a dying profession around the time I passed, the same goes for the different nations developing tanks, fighter aircraft, bombers, naval ships, all of that. This is due to one reason. Our generation was able to wrest the control of power from the old governments and unite nearly all countries into one that constantly helped each other.”
(BM) “I get it, as a result of this, the wars decreased, as did human suffering, and the many humanitarian crises’. What year did you pass?”
(RB) “About 2075? Around there, I stopped bothering after I turned into my 70’s.
(BM) “Is that so? I wonder how Earth will develop after your death. Will they fall into another chaotic time like we always do, or will the peace last? No one ever knows for certain.” Baron sighed.
The two sat in silence for a little while before Baron remembered what he brought Roxi here for.
(BM) “Roxi, I remember you say that you wanted to take a rest from life, and just enjoy everything around you for a bit?”

(RB) “Yes, I did say that. Why do you ask?”
(BM) “I understand it’s a bit rude of me, but would you like to join the tournament that me, Yue Fei, and Guan Yu will be going to participate in, in a few days?”
(RB) “That sounds interesting, well, I suppose I might give it a try. Do I get to do it with you and your friends?”
(BM) “Of course, if that is what you wish.”
(RB) “Alright then, I guess I will.”
(BM) “That’s good to hear. I’ll take care of everything and you can come along if you want to.”
(RB) “Well, I suppose so, there really isn’t anything else I can do here anyway. Where to first?”
(BM) “Let’s get you signed up for the tournament first.”
The two of them left the HQ together and they headed towards the tournament sign up area. At this point in the competition, there were not many who still wished to participate, but of course as with everything else, there were exceptions. Baron got Roxi entered in with little to no troubles and were off to the next place to do some business. This place was the headquarters of the Men Of Meng faction, which Guan Yu had previously bought their services for the land portion of the tournament. Meng Ao showed them the way in and Baron, Roxi, and Meng Wu were talking like they had known each other for a long time straight away.
(MW) “Baron, what brings you here to my place, I wasn’t expecting you to come or else I would have set out some tea or something.” Meng Wu, the leader of M.O.M said out of courtesy.
(BM) “Oh, no need to worry about such trifling matters. I’m glad that you could take my request to see you in such a short amount of time, I’m not impeding on anything am I?” Baron asked, also out of courtesy.

(MW) “Nonsense. What matters do you need to discuss with me?”
(BM) “There is a change of plans regarding who you will be guarding in the land tournament. This lady here is Roxi, and I wish for you to include her in your guarding duties. Here is a bag for the remaining bal-”
(MW) “The first thing I can do, as for the remaining balance… What’s a couple thousand between friends, am I right?”
(BM) “Well then, alright. Thank you, Mr. Wu. I look forward to hearing from you and your team when we are inside the tournament.”
(MW) “As am I, Baron.”
That concluded that matter, and soon after saying their farewells, Baron and Roxi headed over to where Yue Fei and Guan Yu were taking a little break at. It was the first restaurant that Baron had brought Roxi to when she first got here, just over a day ago. This wasn’t really just a meetup, but more of a formal introduction between future teammates.
(BM) “Let’s get this introduction started,” Baron said after he sat down next to Yue Fei. “Roxi, this is Yue Fei, he was the person that started me off on this journey on planet 4. This other person is Guan Yu, and he is also an elder like Yue Fei, but a lot more respected. You two, this is Roxi, my past lover.”
(YF) “Nice to meet you, Roxi, although we have already met before.” Yue Fei said as he got up to shake her hand.
(RB) “Haha, yea.”
(GY) “Nice to meet you as well, Roxi. Though I haven’t seen any of your capabilities yet, I can tell already tell that you have all the integrity that Baron has. I look forward to working with you in the future.” Guan Yu said while also getting up to shake her hand.
(RB) “You as well. Did Baron already tell you that I will be under your care in the land tournament in a few days?”
(GY) “No, but I did assume that was what this meeting was for. I hope you are prepared for war, little lady, the amount of bloodshed that is in this one is particularly bloody.”
(RB) “Not to worry, I have seen my fair share of battles.”

Luck And Chronomancy
Time Magic is the best magic as everyone knows, although there are lots of unique Talents in the world. Most people only remember Haste because it is hard to get to higher Phases of Chronomancy. That is still enough to make the Talent iconic. A lucky enough Aleatory Talent can position you for greatness or leave you languishing in obscurity. The only true equality in the world is when that glowing message pops up at 8 years old. Even if it doesn't activate until you are an adult at 16 you still know. Sure you can find a new dungeon spawn and get another chance at a rare Talent, even this one, but you have to already be ready to delve into the *Far Wilds*, which is far easier with wealth or family power. This is the story of where my good fortune took me and the difference it made, even among a party of 7 others including an Arcanist. It is a journey of magic and monsters but also math, which some think is actually worse. Luckily I was born with Intelligence and Focus as my personal traits, and my parents were scholars. Of course Chronomancy can also be a frontline combat talent. Versitility well beyond other Elder Talents like Gravity, Abstraction, or Arcana. Might could have worked for me, too. I also met a runaway princess. All the best adventures have a princess. She hated being a noble and we didn't get married but it still counts. Besides she really filled out our front line. All that Leadership training came in handy. I still don't know where she's from. Who cares? How well Haste goes with giant hammers is what's important. I never learned much about anyone in the party, except the one I grew up with. I'm not a people person. I just wanted to optimize dungeon clearing time. *******Story Details******* No romance, politics, or traumatizing content, slice of life, or even dialogue. 1st person narration, like a guide/adventure log. 2000-7000 words a day, maybe 40-60% rpgish combat log with some reasoning on combat decisions, with the rest character Talent discussion and progression stuff. 8 person party with a decent variety in roles. Party members usually have 2 primary functions. Told from the support/control Chronomancer's perspective. Each party member will have 6 Basic/Background Traits, then 3 actual Talents with abilities. Capstone from their Educational Institution, Arbritrary as a gift from the temples, and Aleatory which is decided at birth, revealed at 8, and activated after adulthood at 16. Aleatory Traits ignore requirements and are random why is why they are so important. They'll gain new Talents from finding Dungeons to consume in the *Wilds*. Mature dungeons in cities can provide *Challenges* to raise the Phase of a Talent, up to 3 times from 1 to 4. Each character will get to roughly 8 non-Trait Talents. Attributes come exclusive from Talents, are required by Talents, and provide various effects as well. I designed about 220 Talents with abilities, 4 in each of 4 phases. "Traits" are just Attribute stuff. I'm not sure how many will be detailed in the story, more than 100 for sure. I used Talents because I want to be free of the legacy of tabletop. Half those rules are just because of the limitations inherent in a pre-computer ttrpg. This story mostly uses combat Talents, although like 1/3 of the 220 are for crafting and other society and economy stuff. If you really wanted to be a Thief you might take Intuition, Awarness, and Might for Basic Traits and Deftness, Manipulation, and Trickery for Family/Education. Then you'd pick Acrobatics, and Climbing for Educational Capstone and Arbitrary traits. You Aleatory Trait might be Shadow(Light/Dark) Magic, Umbramancy. A Bard might swap Dexterity for Charisma, Music for Acrobatics, and have gotten Illusion(Shadow/Sound(Air/Force)) for their Aleatory Trait.
