《It That Laments》Chapter 13: A Sunflower Bud

People died.
That was the water that was poured to a small bud. It absorbed and gained the knowledge that people were things that died, quite easily even.
But, that was merely the surface of a whole bigger thing.
People dying was a result, not a cause
Absorbing the water with its roots, the bud increased its knowledge.
People were something that does something and, as the result, they died.
It was a strange thing.
What motivates them so much that they were willing to die for it? The bud had no way of answering for it was nothing more than a bud.
It had seen people died challenging the sun, an existence much bigger, greater, and powerful than it or them. They perished without taking down the sun.
The sun was still up above in the sky, on an unreachable place. It knew because it always watched the sun for some reason.
It was far enough to be unreachable but close enough to be felt by its side. The sun was its friend that helped it to grow. Without it, the bud would stay as a sprout even with enough water.
That was why it was thankful to the sun.
But, if it was asked whether it resent people, it would answer it with a no.
Why? It was because people were the one that prepared a good soil, planted, and poured water when it was nothing more than a seed. Then, did it resent the sun? Of course not.
Both played a great role in its development. Without them, it would not become a bud. It was grateful to both.
Yet, people died and the sun had lost its warmth. Despite being on an unreachable place, the people managed to cause a change to the sun with their lives.

Once again, it could not help but wonder what people wanted to do so much they used their lives.
Were they jealous of the bright sun in the sky?
Why would they? To the bud, they were as bright, or even more, than the sun. Furthermore, they too were things that received the sun’s blessing. They had no reason to.
Then, did they no longer need the sun? No.
Just like the bud, without sun, they won’t be able to live.
The bud should have known the answer it was looking for. It just hadn’t realized it. After all, it had watched the sun all this time, similar to how they did.
With enough water and time, it would grow into a fine sunflower with similar bright color to the sun. When the time came, it will learn another thing and solved the question by itself.
But, surely, what came after that was another question. This time, the question that caused people to challenge the sun. It might make her do the same thing as they who it saw as a bud, making another bud to question its action.
It, however, was for its bloomed self to answer. Its bud self could only wonder and thought of a way to return back the sun’s warmth, forgetting that it was even farther to the sun than the people.
