Author note: Thanks for reading so far and happy Easter. I hope you enjoy this chapter. I kind of wanted to do an Easter themed chapter but then I kind of left it on a cliff hanger last chapter so I can't. If, somehow I get to release another 365 chapters of this I might release an Easter themed one lol. This is a flashback chapter. While I think of ideas for the dungeon, I decided to do a bit of Drac's background.

Great, scumbags the lot of them. I appeared to be inside of my castle. I could tell because unlike Golrend, there was the stench of death. Guess this is a dream.
Looking down on my body I see a smaller body.
"What do we do with him then?! He wasn't born with any of either of our powers!" (male voice)
"We just have to train him then. Make him stronger!" (female voice)
"You know we don't have that sort of time." (male voice)
From inside the other room I heard the shouts of my parents. Great, I had to dream about this again. It's been years since this happened.
From inside the other room, I heard doors swinging open.
"My lord, the heroes are approaching!" (???)
"Ready our armor. We have to meet them in battle so they don't reach here and find Draculus." (father)
"Yes sir!" (???)
The area around me changes. I am out on a balcony of the castle, overlooking a battlefield. Humans and demons fighting against each other and in the thick of it, my father and mother are fighting against a group of people. I hate this part.
For what seems like hours, the battle rages on. Screams can be heard. There are heavy casualties on both sides.
In the middle, father and mother were still fighting those same people. Damn heroes.

I can't control my body. I started running through the castle as fast as possible to the exit. Past guards, past maids, past families who had taken refuge.
"Young master! Come back!" (all who I ran past)
They would all shout the same thing, yet no one would try to stop me, knowing I was running towards my parents.
I could hear the battle from outside. Screams, metal hitting metal, metal going through flesh. I could hear all of it. Everything was fresh in my mind. I forgot this was just a dream.
I took control of my body but kept running in the same direction I had previously done. When I reached the gate, I saw mountains of bodies.
There was a large clearing in amongst the fighting, where a much more catastrophic battle was taking place. Mana of all sorts was fighting against each other. Mother's red spells against the 5 magician heroes' blue. To the side, father was fighting with his sword against 3 hero swordsmen.
I continued to run towards them while screaming...
"Mother! Father!" (young Drac)
As I got closer to the battlefield, I could see more details. Both parties were injured. There also seemed to be a couple dead heroes on the ground. Covering the swordsmen heroes were occasional gashes. None were deep enough to be life threatening.
When I looked at father however, what I saw was worse. He was covered in large gashes and was missing an arm.
Mother also looked exhausted.
I reached the edge of the battle and headed towards the clearing. The scorched volcano floor was now dyed blood red because of the fighting.
I ran in between the humans and demons. The demons left me alone because they knew who I was. The humans on the other hand left me alone because I looked like a human child.

Blood from others sprayed over me which made me gag slightly but I still continued to run. Occasionally, I would see corpses with their entrails hanging out or missing limbs but that did not deter me.
Even though I was out of breath and scared, I continued to run to where I believed my parents were. I arrived at a clearing in the sea of bodies.
I saw my mother and father back to back. Both of them were still fighting. Father with his sword. Mother with her magic. There were 3 more dead heroes on the floor. 1 was a swordsmen, the other two were mages.
The battle continued and I could only watch, unable to interfere because I was too weak. More wounds were appearing on both of my parents until they finally fell to the ground.
The heroes cheered while I ran towards them.
"MOTHER! FATHER!" (young Drac)
I reached both of them and hugged them.
"What... are... you... doing here. R-run Draculus." (father)
"No! I won't leave you!" (young Drac)
Realizing that I was their son made the heroes approach us with weapons drawn.
"Run. Survive. Get stronger and take revenge." (father)
Those were the last words I heard from my father before the light left both his and mother's eyes.
I screamed as loud as I could. I stood up and turned towards the heroes.
"YOU DID THIS! YOU KILLED THEM!" (young Drac)
Passive skill temporarily unlocked. Demonic powers activated. Automatic pilot activated.
The dream ended.
I regained consciousness a couple of times, only to find myself tied up in what seemed like a carriage and knocked out again. If I hadn't leveled up I would of probably died of health loss.
Eventually, I woke up covered in bruises and felt stiff. I was inside what seemed to be a large cave. I could the entrance which was covered with a closed iron gate. When I looked deeper inside the cave I could see ruins. The entrance to Golrend's great Labyrinth. Great.

Author note: Thanks for reading. Was this chapter gripping? I tried to make it fast paced and exciting. I hope it worked. It's about the same length as my other chapters but it may seem shorter because of this. Hope you enjoyed. Also, I got over 1000 views on my first and second chapters. Thanks a lot. This was my first try at writing something and I didn't believe it would go well. I am really happy it was well received.

City of Captives
In the Qursan Empire, the grey walls of the City press down on its subjects. It is a highly divided society which is based on the magical strength of its citizens. Jano is pretty much the lowest of the low in the Qursan Empire. A Class Ten citizen forced into transitory work after having his power restricted. When he gets the opportunity to change all of that, he takes it with both hands. This is a slow burning progression fantasy. Please expect at least two chapters per week. I love writing this story but I do have unfortunate things to deal with like work and life outside of writing. I may be able to write and edit more than that, but it will never be less! This is largely still a draft. I hope to use any comments and reviews in the future. Thanks for reading!
