《The Survival of the Prince》Chapter 41

"Harassment takes many forms and comes in differing degrees of severity, but it all stems from a base principle. If something is annoying and making someone uncomfortable, it's harassment. The sad thing is that some people have so little social skills that they determine their actions to be anything else." – a harassed philosopher
'Why is she here?'
Reynold looks over to the rambunctious package of energy with the name of Leticia that the duke had pushed off on him.
'I thought she wanted to go to a tournament or something, I should have had a couple of days more of freedom.'
Reynold continues his blank stare as Leticia starts pulling Alex's cheeks.
'Leticia shouldn't be my problem, yet here she is. I served the kingdom to the best of my ability, and the infiltrated the duchy as a spy, and then messed it up and became a hero. Maybe this is what I deserve.'
Reynold casually and slowly looks over to where his student is currently, knowing any quick movements will attract Leticia's attention. He becomes quite impressed with how Alex has moved so that a chair is between them.
'A simple strategy, but a smart one. Alex can use the chair as an obstacle, and for most, their dignity would prevent them from climbing over it. He must have learned something from those strategy lessons, but they aren't going to do him much good here.'
Reynold ponders for a moment longer.
'Unless he gets serious and starts fighting her for real, which if I know Alex, that would be his last resort, she's going to catch him. She just doesn't give up on something she's interested in.'
Reynold's conjecture is proven correct when Leticia jumps onto the chair and then uses it as a springboard to catch Alex, prompting the imagery of a cat and mouse in Reynold's mind.

'Which really leads to my problem, she's getting in the way of my work.'
Reynold glares at Leticia, which goes unnoticed by her, as she grooms a crying Alex.
'I thought he was stronger than that, it took me hours to reach that state. It goes to show that the psyche of a hero is strong.'
Alex starts trying to claw away from his 'demise.'
'Oh, he still has some fight left, good for him.'
Reynold looks away from his student's pleading gaze.
'That girl… I'm not even sure I'd wish her upon my worst enemies.'
Reynold smirks.
'It's kind of Ironic though, they kind of look like brother and sister right now.'
Reynold sighs, ignoring the periodic scuffles the two were having.
'He'll learn to give up soon enough. In the meantime, I should finish up some much-needed paperwork.'
Reynold dips his quill into the ink and starts writing on a piece of parchment.
'It seems so outdated to use these, but since the rest of the administration does, so do I.'
He writes for a moment, before setting the quill down and taking a gaze out the window behind him.
'Alex should keep her busy for a few hours, I should take the peace while I can.'
Reynold turns back to his work, picks up his pen, and starts writing again, ignoring the warzone developing from the now-free Alex, and the determined Leticia.
'His son has grown up a bit, I wonder what Walter would think of this…'
