Adam salió aturdido de la cueva para dirigirse a su casa, en el camino se cruzó con bastantes personas; pero todos eran conocidos y lo saludaron con una sonrisa amable.
Los pasillos del hexágono 10 parecían estar bastante más limpios que antes; lo cual sorprendió a Adam, parecía que alguien los hubiera estado limpiando, incluso algunas lámparas fueron reparadas por algún desconocido.
Lo que impactó a Adam fue que ya no eran mismas las lámparas de aceite, sino que volvieron a construir las originales, es decir los angelitos de mármol; semejante habilidad no era tan común en este piso.
Adam dio un giro en una de las esquinas de los pasillos y logró ver al responsable, era un anciano con solo unos pocos pelos blancos en la cabeza y cuerpo muy maltratado, bestia en harapos , pero sus harapos eran los restos de una túnica violeta. El viejo con manos temblorosas limpiaba el polvo en los pasillos mientras cantaba una canción infantil:
—Mambrú se fue a la guerra, mire usted, mire usted, qué pena ...
Adam trató de no molestar al hombre cantando, no lo conocía y este piso estaba lleno de locos. Además, su papá le había dicho que no hablara con los desconocidos.
Pero cuando Adam paso por el pasillo, el viejo logró mirar su caja de útiles escolares y preguntó:
—¿Piso medio 4 de 5, hexágono 8 de 18? ¿Qué hace un estudiante viviendo acá?
Adam se detuvo y volteo, sabía que su papá le dijo que no hablara con desconocidos, pero necesitaba decirle algo para que el viejo no se diera cuenta de que era estudiante; su padre le dijo que había que mantenerlo en secreto a toda costa.
Así que miro al viejo limpiando y le dijo:
—¡No soy estudiante de la escuela, me enseña mi papá!
—Tu papá sabe leer y vive acá ...— dijo el viejo como si tratara de llegar a una conclusión importante—¡Dios chico, estás viviendo con un lunático! ¿No quieres venir conmigo? Podría cuidarte de ese lunático.

—No, claro que no— Dijo Adam, eso sí que una orden severa de su padre: nunca te vayas con algún desconocido a ningún lado.
—Oh...—Parece que el viejo entendió que casi estaba raptando a un chico y cambió su enfoque— Si algún día tu padre pierde la cabeza del todo, ve a la estantería del Hexágono 2. Busca una estantería de un solo libro, dale esta página y te llevará a un sitio mejor que este. Si preguntan quien te mando, diles que su nombre no importa, está muerto.
—No quiero la página gracias— dijo Adam sin darse la vuelta y caminando de frente hacia la puerta. No quería aceptar nada de un desconocido y menos si se relacionaban con estanterías.
El viejo miró la espalda del chico y el papelito en sus manos ya en huesos, luego miró al chico cada vez más lejos y gritó:
—¡Tiempos de guerra vienen, joven! ¡Sé fuerte y no temas; porque las estanterías perdurarán por siempre!
Pero Adam no volteo a ver al viejo, sabía que los locos dirían cosas raras, era mejor ignorar sus locuras o uno podría quedar loco también.
—Ya nadie quiere a los niños ... —Dijo el viejo en harapos llorando, con ira, mientras se ponía a limpiar con aún más violencia —Solo los viejos moribundos que ya no pueden tenerlos ...
Adam alcanzó escuchar los llantos del viejo justo cuando estaba por cerrar la puerta de su casa y encontrarse con su padre, como siempre en su esquina, agachado, mirando a la pared , buscándole algún sentido a esa esquina o a la vida.
