Chapter 39

I have to do something. I take three more demon arrows from my inventory and release them at the dragon, but they bounce off the skin. How tough is that thing? Not to mention, what kind of arrows was Valery using in the crossbow then?

Next, I take out three explosive arrows. I haven't used these before, and I'm not sure how much Valery will be hurt in the explosion, but I know she will die if the dragon is not killed. When I release the three arrows, two of them miss the dragon and hit the rock behind it, but one hits.

The resulting explosion blasts the dragon back, but the dragon then takes to the air. I could follow it, but from the bottom of my vision, I see the rocky top of the mountain breaking away.

As the rocks break and fall, a line of darkness looms on closer towards Valery. I have to get to her location before she falls into the newly created hole!

With ninja movement, I jump from rock to rock and at the same time put my bow away so that I can move stats into Dexterity(D) and Strength(S). With 25 stat points in both S and D, I feel myself moving towards Valery at a faster rate, but before I get to her, she falls into the mountain.

I only look in for a moment before jumping in myself. It is my fault she is falling into this abyss, and I have to save her somehow. It's dark, so I turn on my night vision and look around.

I suddenly realize that I don't know what to do when we have to stop. I have plenty of rope, but that would only have helped me when we first started falling. I don't have wind magic, but I do have over 400 feet of cloth. I can't make a parachute in the second or two it might take me to hit the ground, so I instead just start taking the cloth out of my inventory and piling it up in front of me to block the fall.

I can remove things from my inventory very quickly, and I don't need my hands to do it, so I also move all my stat points to put everything into Vitality, leaving ten for the rest. It leaves me with 200 health, which I will need for padding on the fall.

Splat.

Fuck.

Hurts.

Shit.

Everything hurts, I feel like shit, I really fucked up, and I could even hear Valery splat on the ground. I don't want to look around. I have to look around. I open my eyes and use night vision and heat vision, in case anything is nearby.

I don't see anything, so I take a look at Valery. She is under some of the cloth, so I have to move it to get to her.

Shit, I hurt too bad. I need to check my stats.

I'm running really low on health. Taking a quick look around, I don't see anything, so I lay down to catch my breath.

I know Valery is under me, dead, but I feel my health increasing. At 40 health per minute, I only need 5 minutes to heal everything. Once five minutes pass, I put my stats back where they should go. 25 S, 15 D, 10 V, 20 I, 10 W, 10 L. After this, I might need to increase luck some.

At the bottom of my pile of cloth, of which I moved into my inventory as I found undamaged pieces of, Valery's broken body lay. Part of her side was eaten by the dragon, and the rest of her was smashed against the ground from the fall. Strangely, there is a glow coming from her lower abdomen, around the naval. I take off a small amount of her armor and clothes to check what the glow was coming from, and it is a ball of light.

When I touch the ball of light, a screen came up.

I give it a moment of thought, and this must be Valery's inventory. She had such great weapons with her, and must have put the swords in during her fall.

Did I kill her? If I wasn't on that peak, would Valery have killed the dragon?
