《Romance of the Three Beasts》4.1 - Tiger Warming Up

Dawn crested over a hill nearby and Tiger blinked awake. He sat up quickly and then was on his feet moments after, limbering up. He glanced around to see Wolf had already gone to hunt. He expanded his awareness and felt him nearby.
He trekked to the lake, seeing the familiar form of Wolf with the sun illuminating him from behind.
“Oi, you alright?” Tiger called out.
Wolf glanced back at Tiger and nodded.
“Yes.”
Tiger smirked and then stripped down before leaping into the lake. The water was cold and caused his body to tense up. When he relaxed, waves of ki flew out of him and the water around him swirled and rippled before it shot outward. He emerged to see Wolf wipe the water away from his eyes.
“Missing your pack?” Tiger asked as he waded around the lake.
Wolf remained on the rock, watching him.
“It’s been some time since we’ve done something like this…” Wolf continued to stare up at the sky.
Tiger swam to the bank and leaned against it. “A few years, yeah…”
“Do you think Dragon will listen to us?”
Tiger smirked. He shrugged. “Depends on how we talk to him.” Tiger roared with laughter. “Though I don’t think he has anything to listen to.” He grinned. “You worry too much.”
The pair took some time to relax and then readied to leave.
“Should we go hunt something?” Tiger slipped on his shirt.
Wolf ran his fingers through their hair. “Yes.”
The pair then bounded away from one another. Tiger was roaring with laughter, and lept from tree to tree as if he was bouncing between them. The trees shook, the leaves fell beind him, and by the time they landed he was already out of sight. It had been a long time since he had hunted with Wolf. This was a test, a test to see if he still had it in him. His heart pounded within his chest, his body heating up, fists clenching together. How exhilarating. In times past, when they were far more innocent, they used to hate hunting. A small smile appeared on his face as he reminisced. Wolf was exactly as he remembered.

He finally skid to a halt in front of a large creature, which then turned to face him. A grin painted Tiger’s face as he wound up an arm.
“A Selt Bear? It’s my lucky day!” He almost drooled. The large creature shuddered, it’s obsidian fur swayed in the breeze. It was tall, built like a wagon. Its claws could rend like any sword, and with the strength of an entire battalion. It stood onto it’s hind legs, tall and strong, before bellowing a roar that was like a wave of thunder.
Tiger clenched his fists and opened up his arms. He embraced the roar of battle and then roared in return.
The beast charged Tiger, who waited on his feet steady as ever. The ground shook before him as the bear tackled him. The force caused the earth under to crack. However, Tiger was unmoved.
He wrapped his arms around the bear and grabbed at it’s fur, which was as hard as dry rock. “It’s been so long…” He placed his chin to rest on its fur and then inhaled deeply, as if thinking of a better time. He then smiled wider. He hoisted the bear into the air as if it was a child, and tossed it over him.
He watched as it flipped over behind him. He shifted onto his foot, simply pivoting on one foot, and then punched it with the side of his fist like a hammer. The skull shattered beneath it, like dropped glass. The ground beneath cracked further forming a spider web like texture.
“Ah…” He rubbed his forehead in thought for a moment. ‘I could have sold the skull…’
He shrugged and then picked it up, slinging it over his shoulder. He turned and then made his way back towards Wolf.

At The Lions Gate
In the 20th century America reinvented itself. Devastated by depression, scarred by war, rocked by a revolution, Americans banded together to preserve their country and their freedom. They had faith in themselves, faith in one another, and for those who believed…faith in God. This novel tells the story of one American who lived through those turbulent years….years that would test his character and the character of a nation. For Josh Sanders it begins in 1935. A star athlete in school, pro football is a ticket out of poverty during the Great Depression; but when his father, a WWI veteran, is killed during a robbery, Josh’s spirit is broken, and with it his boyhood dream. To honor his father Josh joins the war effort in 1942, distinguishing himself as a fighter pilot, until a fateful decision near the end of the war changes the course of his life once again. But many years later, after a stint as a boxer and a failed marriage, Josh finds his calling…at a time when the country is at war with itself. The year is 1968. King and Kennedy have been killed, race riots are breaking out, and Vietnam has become an albatross, causing massive protests across the country. In the streets of San Francisco Josh watches a crowd of students march for peace. As a veteran he’s conflicted, toward the war and those who oppose it. But when he encounters Rosy Goldin, a spirited young protester in need of help, a voice from the past calls him to action. His good intentions are soon tested when Rosy falls in love with the fugitive anti-war activist Erick White, a young man determined to oppose the war at all costs, against the wishes of his own father. Fearful of what happens to Rosy, Josh confronts Erick, unwilling to be part of his plan to escape…until he meets the boy’s father. A high-powered criminal attorney, Karl White is also a flag-waving patriot demanding that his son follow the law. But as White makes his case Josh is jolted by a painful war-time memory, a crisis of conscience that will soon determine the fate of Rosy Goldin and Erick White.
