Chapter 4

When I woke up I was covered in sweat.

Falon:" I wonder what I dreamt about."

I got out of bed and used magic to evaporate the sweat. Tessa was still asleep so I tried to wake her up. After a few minutes she finally set up.

Tessa:"Why did you wake me up?"

Falon:"We need to eat breakfast and go meet up with Drexel."

Tessa:"Who's Drexel?"

Falon:"I told you yesterday he's a beastman I met who's going to be traveling with us to Gart."

Tessa stood up and stretched out her arms while yawning.

Tessa:"ok. Lets go."

Tessa grabbed her bag and the two of us left the room. We first stopped to buy some dried meat to eat on the journey, and I loaded it into a bag I bought. We also had to stop off to buy a short sword for Tessa. She may not know how to use it buy it's better than leaving her unarmed.

We found a place to have breakfast and sat down after ordering.

Falon:"Tessa I need to know more about you. We still don't know why the demons want you."

Tessa:".........I'll tell you all I can. My mother was raped by a human with blue hair. I was born with blonde hair as a product of that rape. When I turned 12, I was curious about my father and that's when she told me. I decided not to ask about him again, but a week after that our village was attacked."

The breakfast arrived so we ate it before she continued with her story.

Tessa:"I wasn't in the village at the time because I went to play in the forest nearby and fell asleep. When I returned everyone was dead including my mother, so I ran. I ran for what felt like days until I couldn't anymore. I got lucky and was found by a human who brought me to an orphanage nearby. After five years the woman in charge died of old age and I took over for her. You showed up three years later and after another five years here we are."

Falon:"Who attacked your village?"

Tessa:"I don't know. When I got there they were gone."

Falon:"Well I guess that's enough we need to go meet Drexel now and start heading to Gart."

Tessa:"Sure."

We got up and walked towards the west exit to meet Drexel. When we got there, I could see Drexel talking to someone. She was a human girl with long red hair tied into a ponytail, and light armor covering her chest and thighs. She looked to be about 16 and had a slender toned body with a sword on each side.

Falon:"Hey Drexel we're here."

Drexel turned to look at us and a smile formed on his face.

Drexel:"Hey Falon I found someone else who's headed to Gart can she tag along."

Falon:"Sure. Hi I'm Falon."

Ruby:"It's nice to meet you I'm Ruby."

Falon:"Ruby, Drexel this is Tessa."

I looked towards Tessa.

Tessa:"hello. Ruby, Drexel it's nice to meet you."

Drexel:"Wow! You didn't tell me your companion was so beautiful Falon."

Falon:" You didn't ask about her."

Drexel:"Well Tessa I hope the two of us can get to know each other a little better during our travels."

Tessa:"ok?"

Falon:" We need to get some horses anyone know where we can get some."

Ruby:"They're being sold right outside the gate here. Lets go I can't wait to get to Gart!"

We all left through the gate and Ruby led us to where we could buy horses. After we bought one for each of us, we headed off towards a merchants trail nearby. We decided to travel on this trail all the way to Gart. We would travel on the trail while the sun was up and camp next to it at night.

After a few days of this I found out that Ruby was traveling to Vaneth Academy to prepare for war.

Ruby:"I was visiting Gart five years ago with my family when we got attacked by some monsters right before we reached the city gate. Since I was born with red hair I was trained in how to use a sword, but the rest of my family couldn't fight. There were to many monsters and I thought they were going to kill us. When I was about to be hit by a claw, I closed my eyes tightly waiting for death. After a few seconds I opened them back up, and saw a dual swordswoman slaughtering all the monsters like it was nothing."

Ruby:"When she finished she came up to us and asked if any of us got hurt. She appeared to only be a little older than me. My father told her that I was hurt, and she came over to me and healed my injuries. I couldn't get myself to speak so I just stood there. When she was done, she said fair well and went into Gart. I decided to use dual swords after seeing her, but I never saw her again. I hope to be able to serve under her during this war."

Falon:"How do you plan on finding her?"

Ruby:"Someone of her skill won't be hard to find."

Falon:"Gart has many magicians and swordsman it won't be that easy."

Ruby:"I know I'll find her, and finally be able to fight beside her."

She smiled after she said that and I couldn't help but smile back.

Falon:"Well I wish you luck."

Ruby:"thanks."

We were enjoying our talk when we noticed a bunch of people up ahead. When we reached them we new immediately that they were bandits.

Bandit 1:" Leave all your money and belongings and we won't kill you."

A few of them had red hair and one in the back had blue hair. We all hopped off our horses, and immediately attacked them.

Ruby severed the head of bandit 1 and the others rushed forwards. I stabbed my short sword into one bandit and sent a wind blade towards another.

Ruby swung both of her swords killing each bandit with one hit. More bandits started to come out of the woods behind us.

Falon:"Drexel handle the back!"

Drexel:"sure thing!"

Drexel smiled as he plunged his rapier into a bandits heart. Drexel seemed to be very agile dancing between the bandits while stabbing them with his sword.

I turned around after finishing off my share of the bandits and before I could even move I saw an arrow. The arrow was obviously imbued with magic, but it wasn't headed for me. The arrow pierced Tessa's heart and there was a small explosion leaving a large hole in her chest.

I immediately created a huge fire ball and threw it towards where the arrow came from. I could hear the guy screaming as he burned alive. I run up to Tessa, but it was to late she was dead.

I stood there looking at her body. Ruby and Drexel had already finished off their share of the bandits, but they didn't say anything. After a while I decided I had to bury her so I went to the side of the rode and created a grave marker and a hole. When I was done I turned around.

Ruby:"Falon get over here quickly!!!"

I saw her standing over Tessa and run up to her. When I looked down at Tessa I saw the hole was gone, and she was breathing again.

Falon:"Ruby how did you do this she was dead."

Ruby:"I didn't do anything she just started healing by herself."

Falon:" That's impossible magic can't bring the dead back."

Drexel came walking up.

Drexel:"Who cares at least she's not dead."

Falon:"Yeah.....your right. Lets bury these bandits and camp here."

I picked Tessa up and brought her to the side of the road and laid her down.

*Her healing ability is incredible, now I understand why the demons would want her. If her ability could be recreated you could create unstoppable soldiers.*

Tessa didn't wake up for the rest of the day or night. We still had a while before we reached Gart.

* I hope we don't have to deal with any more trouble on the way.*

I failed to notice the pack of silver wolves gathering in the forest close to us. I went to sleep thinking about why so many bandits attacked us when we obviously weren't merchants.
