Chapter 10
*******************Tessa POV*****************
I loved my mom but I lost her. Loved the kids at the orphanage but I lost them too. Whenever I grow attached to anyone they seem to die.
Falon actually use to creep me out. I thought he was a weird kid always by himself and the other kids never seemed to play with him. I would try to play with him sometimes, but he wasn't interested in any of the games.
He took me outside once and used some kind of magic. When he was done I couldn't believe my eyes. He had turned into the most handsome man I've ever seen. I couldn't help but stare.
He asked me to help him into a bed and I remembered that he was Falon the 5 year old so I dragged him inside. He was asleep for a few days.
I was eating breakfast with a few of the kids when there was a loud boom. A demon had torn through the wall and was standing a few feet away. I knew demons were monsters shaped like humans, so I grabbed the hands of the kids and ran out the front door.
I saw Falon with cuts all over him and decided to run to him. I yelled to him that demons were attacking and then I felt extreme heat.
When I finally woke up I saw Falon cutting his hair, so I waited for him to finish then set up. I didn't see them around so I started worrying about the kids. I asked Falon, but he didn't say anything. I knew what had happened and all I could do was cry.
We left the orphanage and I followed Falon. I didn't know what to say. He felt like a stranger to me, but he still helped me walk through the forest and hid me behind his back when we were attacked. I felt pretty safe and comforted looking at his back.

We made it to a town and got a room at an inn. Falon said he had things to do, but since he was actually 5 I felt like it was my job to be the responsible one. I some how passed out during our fight, but I don't remember being very sleepy.
We left the next day and traveled with two new people. I really liked talking to Ruby since she felt like my first true friend that wasn't a little kid. We were attacked a few times on our trip to Gart, and I was wounded once but Falon took care of me didn't let me get even a scratch after that.
I was the older than than Falon, but he still took care of me as if I was the child. No one had ever treated me like he did, nice and caring. I felt something that I had never felt before.
When we got to Gart, he went walking around with me and Ruby and he bought glasses which I thought made him look older.
After I told him that, I realized why he seemed like a weird kid. He felt more like an adult which was why I always felt kind of awkward trying to get him to play at the orphanage.
We made it to Vaneth Academy and stayed in temporary rooms until we could take our test to get in. I was taken to the coliseum for my test and I was scared I would have to fight which made me think of Falon. I felt kind of embarrassed that I was thinking of him.
It turned out all I had to do was heal students after their matches in the coliseum. Some of them ended up getting seriously wounded, but I've always been good at healing so I didn't have any trouble. The teacher who tested me said I was already a master class healer.
I decided to take classes to learn other types of magic that I could fight with. I wanted to be able to help Falon instead of just being protected.

We all celebrated getting accepted and went out to drink. I knew Falon was a kid but he's grown so much that I can't consider him one anymore. We drank to much and went back to his room to sleep. I didn't think about what was happening at the time because laying with him felt so comfortable.
When I woke up the next morning, I was the only one awake and realized what happened. I looked at his sleeping face and thought it was so cute. I laid back down and wrapped his arm around me going back to sleep.
Ruby woke me up the second time and we left together. During lunch we saw Falon, but felt to embarrassed to eat with him.
I saw him return to the Academy with a beautiful girl holding onto his cloak once and it made me kind of mad. I stayed away from him for a while after that. Most of my days were spent in class and hanging out with Ruby.
Ruby had peace keeper duties so I would sometimes tag along. On one of her assignments I found out that the girl that was with Falon was named Laya and she was feared by most of the males in the Academy.
Whenever a boy would try to flirt with her she would beat them half to death. She seemed to be looking at me whenever we passed by each other so she kinda scared me.
One day when I was going to deliver some papers to the headmaster concerning peace keeper duties I over heard a conversation in his office.
Paltor:"What should we do. He could be a problem if we leave him be."
????:"Don't do anything. It's better if he's here."
Paltor:"He's strong. I only fought him for a minute and lost, but it felt like he was holding back."
????:"Don't worry so much. I'll handle anything that happens."
Paltor:"Yes. I understand priestess."
I didn't understand what they were talking about, but it sounded like something I shouldn't hear so I left as fast as I could. I waited for a few hours before delivering the papers then went straight to my room.
I decided it was best to tell Falon about what I heard.
******************Falon POV******************
Falon:"I do believe in reincarnation."
Grandfather:"So it's you this time. Boy I've got some things I need to talk to you about."
Falon:"I have some questions for you too."
Fraya:"Um....do you two know each other?"
Grandfather:"No we're just birds of a feather."
Falon:"Fraya I need to talk to your grandfather alone so I'll show him to the headmasters office."
Fraya:"Well............ok."
Fraya left the two of us there and went back to the peace keepers office.
Falon:"Do you know something about my reincarnation."
Grandfather:"Ok course I do that's why I recognized those guns. So your the new Demon King. What was your first body like."
Falon:"You already know me I was Keltor Thron."
He looked surprised.
Grandfather:"Well it's nice to know your still alive, but that means your body wasn't destroyed like everyone thinks. So what did your priestess look like."
Falon:"Priestess?"
Grandfather:"What you don't remember. A succubus that completes the ritual. She's usually bat shit crazy. A real unique personality."
Falon:"I don't know what your talking about."
Grandfather:"A Demon King can only be made with the help of a succubus born with two souls. The two are usually total good and total evil."
Falon:"Wait who are you anyway?"
Grandfather:"I've had quite a few names, but you can call me Isaac."Back to Main Page

Together, Orson and Enoa battle a magic-obsessed militia, clash with a host of rivals, and face constant adventure on their journey to find the Dreamside Road. *Updates Monday and Friday The Dreamside Road is now on TopWebFiction! Vote so people know this exists. _____________________________________ NOTE: The Progression tag applies specifically to Enoa. Also, fair warning, that element doesn't enter the story until she begins her studies. Content: Main characters range in age from teenagers to people in their thirties and older, but it will not contain gratuitous violence or explicit sexual content. It also won’t shy away from implication, anything to make this story and its world feel more real. Characters will freely allude to potentially triggering topics, including living with a disability, facing terminal illness, coping with trauma, surviving societal destabilization, and the consequences of bigotry. At its most intense, the Dreamside Road is a hard PG-13. Worldbuilding: This is not a story with a lot of early exposition scenes, conveniently explaining ‘magic systems’ and political dynamics. Readers will learn, progressively, as the characters do. This story/world has a ‘magic system’, or rather, a set of systems, but the effort to quantify and understand the truth of the setting plays a role in the backstory, as well as in some character motivations. In that same vein, not every character has a firm grasp on the nature of their world, and not every piece of dialog from every character should be taken as entirely truthful Worldbuilding. Also, this isn't the softest Sci-fi. There are at least some basic explanations given for various elements, but Royal Road does not give me a spectrum to choose from. Given the choice between hard and soft, let's just say The Dreamside Road won't be cited in any college Physics papers. Setting and Theme: The Dreamside Road walks the line between fantasy and science fiction and deals with finding one’s place in a changing world. Many of the characters in this story are United States natives and the story begins in the United States, my homeland. However, knowledge or interest in this country is not necessary to understand the story, especially as it progresses. Also, as this is a novel that deals with societal collapse and while that damage may be widespread, in story, I don’t want to overstep and critique the culture of others’ unless I have particular knowledge in a given area. Ultimately, the Dreamside Road is American in the same way Harry Potter is English, fantasies that do not have a full secondary world, but with enough original elements to fully diverge the setting from our the real world.
