Chapter 22
It's been two years since we left Haven and we are now living in Ryfemel the elves capital. I asked about their hero Felicity and found out that she was a rather quiet hero.
*I wonder why she turned traitor.*
I have been working to create weapons for the elves, but I've only given them older weaponry. I had plans for other things that would increase the power of their armies. I was worried that the elves would become too strong if we defeat the Demon King and the heroes, but that was a later problem.
It was Jeanette's birthday and she would be turning 9 today. Tessa and I made her a bracelet that has small blood red crystals on it that is enchanted to decrease her weight by 20%. This will help make her faster during training.
Jeanette:"Thank you mommy thank you daddy it matches my necklace."
I have continued all of their martial arts training and asked the king to gather the best wind and fire mages. I was going to let Jeanette ride on a new invention. The King met me with a group of elves and I told everyone to just watch for now.
Jeanette, Tessa and I climbed into a basket and Tessa started creating flames. The heat filled the balloon attached to the basket and we started to rise. I showed them the hot air balloon.
Jeanette:"Woooow!! We're flying!!"
Tessa:"How do flames help us fly Falon? Is this a new kind of magic?"
Falon:"No it's science."
We landed the balloon and the king came up to us.
King:"What is this flying monster your riding?"
Fallon:"It's a balloon."
King:"Are there more of it's kind?"
Falon:"Balloons aren't monsters they're made."
King:"Good then we will be able to put mages in them to shot at enemy armies."
Falon:"You will need a Mage that knows fire and wind magic. The heat will make it rise and the wind will steer it."
King:"Very well once a few of these balloons are made I want to to teach these men how to use them."
Falon:"Yes my lord."
The king left and the mages he brought with him stayed behind. I told everyone to meet back here in four days to begin training to fly the balloons.

I returned to our house with Jeanette and Tessa. I was wondering if they would ever give us a nicer place since I did drastically strengthen their military. They were able to put less guards on the border because of my cannons and special locations even had land mines.
As a last precaution Tessa and I have been working together to create a magic circle that would create a powerful barrier around the kings castle. It was a combination of my knowledge in magic and what she has learned from blood magic.
The barrier could convert any magical attack it suffered back into it's mana form and used that to help the barrier stay up longer. It took a lot of mages to start it up, but it would stay up for about a day unless it was attacked with magic which would keep it up longer.
We were treated great, but we were also feared. With the exception of Jeanette we could all beat the strongest elf in single combat. The best Mage and warrior were far inferior in combat skill compared to us. The elves were born with all around better bodies, but we weren't really human anymore.
Fraya and I were the weakest since we needed the guns, but if it was hand to hand even Fraya was a match for the strongest warrior.
****************Ruby POV****************
I've been training with Falon and then with Cal everyday in order to get stronger. Cal seems to idolize her brother and doesn't even realize that I idolize her. I've always jumped into battle too fast and that's why I could never win against Cal or Falon.
I've actually liked Falon for a long time, but I knew I never had a chance with Tessa around. I really like all the girls around Falon and I think even if Tessa wasn't here I'd even be ranked below his sisters.
I was surprised to find out that he had died once and hearing it reminded me of when I first started liking him. He used lightning to kill a bunch of wolves and when he did it I thought about how amazing he was. It looked like a divine being saving us.
I enjoy when he trains us in the mornings since he's a hands on teacher. Fraya can't stop blushing when he's touching her and I know Cal is happy about it. I try to make a serious face when he touches me, but some times he gets a little close to sensitive spots.

I've had a few elves approach me, but I'm not interested in anyone else. I may only be considered a friend to Falon, but I can live with that for now. We have crystals that keep us young so maybe I'll get a turn eventually. They were in the center of our chests just like Falons. Right now we need to focus on stopping the Demon King and heroes.
I really want to fight those heroes after what they did. Leon and Isaac were important to Falon and his sisters. Falon seemed a little crueler for a short period after he found out they died, but he went back to normal.
I was watching Jeanette alone in the house. I chased her around and we ended up in Falon, Tessa and Jeanette's bedroom. She jumped onto the bed and I followed then started tickling her.
Jeanette:"Hahahahahah!"
Ruby:"You can't escape from me Muahhahahahah!"
I finally stopped tickling her and we just laid on the bed then we fell asleep. I woke up and was surprised that I was being carried. When I looked up I saw Falon.
Falon:"Sorry for waking you I was carrying you to your bed."
Ruby:"I-it's ok."
I felt comfortable in his arms, but it didn't last very long since my room was right next to his. He gently placed me on my bed.
Ruby:"Thank you."
Falon:"There's no need to thank me. Cal and Fraya will be home soon so I'll tell them to be quiet while entering the room."
Ruby:"Ok."
He turned and left so I snuggled up under my blanket. I could still smell his scent on me. The next morning I put a lot more effort into the training.
***************Jeanette POV***************
I love living with mommy and daddy and my aunties. When I lived in the palace I only ever spent time with maids. I never even met my real parents and my bed always felt so big and cold.
I always have someone to play with now and I get to sleep with mommy and daddy. Daddy is super smart and helps the elves. Mommy is a really strong Mage.
Daddy teaches me how to fight and mommy helps me learn magic. My new family is very strong. I'm happy now and love my family more than anything.
*****************Keltor POV****************
I'm worried. The heroes have been with us for two years now and they are gaining popularity with the other demons. My people are now split into two factions the Demon Kings side and the heroes side.
Keltor:"Shit! I never should have let those bastards join us!"
I screamed as I slammed my fist down onto my desk. Jenny and her sister were standing in the corner while Laya sat beside me. The only reason they hadn't tried to kill us yet is because they don't know all of our fighting capabilities.
Hercules is the one they fear the most since no one has a clue of how to actually kill him. I'm lucky he stayed on my side during the split. I sank my head down.
Keltor:"I'm a failure as a king."
Jenny and her sisters came to comfort me. I had officially taken them as concubines half a year ago.
Laya:"We have to kill them all. The demons only follow them because of fear that there stronger than you."
Jenny:"We can kill them for you!"
Lucy & Lilly:"Yeah!"
Keltor:"No. They are strong so I won't risk your lives."
Jenny:"We can do it."
Keltor:"If I decide it's time to attack then we will all go together. The other races will have a chance to gather their full forces and plan an attack. We will be weaker after an internal war."
We are stuck in a stalemate which could only end badly.
Laya:"What about getting an outside force to attack their faction."
Keltor:"Who would be dumb enough to do that?"
Laya:"I've received information on the whereabouts of the missing heroes who didn't join us. If we help create a force to support them and give them the other heroes location I'm sure they would attack. We will be able to go in after and kill anyone who's left."
Keltor:"That's a great plan, but why didn't you tell me you had information on the other heroes?"
Laya:"I wanted to surprise you."
Keltor:"Is there any news on Falon and the book. As long as that girl with your other soul exists I can be shoved back into him."
Laya:"There is no news, but I won't let that happen to you."
Jenny:"We will protect you too."
Lilly & Lucy:"Yeah!"
Keltor:"Thank you girls."Back to Main Page

The Core of a Factory
An abandoned steampunk arms factory, in the middle of a conflict torn former state of the Empire it served, gains a soul. This transforms it into a Lord, capable of turning land into power. Beset by enemies on all sides it must figure out how to win the war its creators lost a century ago. This is a progressive Dungeon Core novel (which is to say the core will progress and expand in scale, eventually) across multiple dimensions with different characteristics (e.g. steampunk, magic, mythological). It has rationalist leanings (paragraphs of reasoning) and litrpg leanings (there are stat blocks). The core game mechanical idea is something like "what if different flavors of magic power actually did come from controlling land" and then the story is: "what if there was a flavorless (artifact deck) dungeon core". Chapters will be relatively short (my aim is that in three column format each would fit on a wide screen monitor), the first few chapters - setting up the main character and mechanics - are currently the longest in the entire series. I write chapters in blocks, and then release them one a weekday (M-F; 6 PM GMT, unless RoyalRoad's publish thing screws up) until I run out. There may be a few days of gaps here and there if someone finds an egregious error I have to re-write around or if I am behind. In general though one can read this once a weekend. I may do slight retconns and edits, I'll make sure to put it in an authors note if I do.
