Chapter 38
******************Cal POV*******************
When the sun went down I met back up with Ruby and Fraya at the inn.
Cal:"What did the two of you learn?"
Fraya:"No one wanted to talk to me about the Angels."
Ruby:"I found out how many men they have. They've taken in a teen from this city whose suppose to be training to join their mercenary group, but it's obvious that he's just an errand boy. He was bragging about how he's a mercenary now so I started talking to him and he spilled everything. He's never met any of the higher ups, but there's apparently two who make the decisions. There's twelve red headed warriors and three blue haired mages."
Cal:"That's good. We'll need to start by taking out the mages so tomorrow lets focus on gathering information on them. I want to know the daily routines of all three. Maybe there will be a way to kill them without alerting the rest."
Fraya:"I hate pretending to be a merchant. Asking questions scared everyone off so we didn't make any money today. Should I still ask the customers tomorrow?"
Cal:"No tomorrow focus on making some money. Ruby and I will gather the information. There's something I found out. The leader has a hero weapon."
Ruby:"What!"
Fraya:"Who is he?"
Cal:"It's not a hero that we know. When we came here after Keltor took over the capitol, we talked with a merchant here who told us about a hero that was summoned by the elves. He had golden bracers with lightning bolts on them. I don't know if it's the same hero, but if it is then he must be considerably older by now."
Ruby:"If we take out the leader before he gets a chance to use the bracers then we call easily kill him."
Cal:"For now try to gather information on their leader, but focus on the mages since we'll be taking care of them first. Ok that's enough talking. I'm ready for bed."
Ruby:"Yeah. Today was boring."
The third bed had been placed in our room next to the other two so there was very little space between each bed. It was a little annoying so we pushed all the beds together and made one big bed that we all slept in.
After a week we learned a lot about the mercenary group known as the Angels. It was easy to kill off the mages without anyone noticing. The twelve remaining warriors and the two in charge were going to be taken care of today. Every week the twelve warriors gather to drink, but the two leaders rarely leave their base. They have food, liquor and women brought to them which is how we will get in.

Today was their drinking night and two girls are always sent to the leaders. The warriors are weak so only one of us will be needed to kill them. The hero weapon will be where two of us are needed. Fraya will kill the warriors while Ruby and I enter the base pretending to be their prostitutes and kill them.
Cal:"Fraya make sure you don't start until thirty minutes after we separate."
Fraya:"I know. We don't want the leaders to find out that we're coming for them."
Ruby:"They're already suspicious since their three mages disappeared."
Ruby and I were wearing very nice looking black dresses. We dressed up to look good, but picked black as a little joke since it's going to be their funeral. Fraya smiled as she looked at us.
Fraya:"Now you look like high quality whores."
Cal:"Shut up."
It was time to finish this job so we started the mission. Ruby and I made our way to the base which was now mostly deserted. The errand boy was the one who let us in and led us to the leaders room. There was a large wooden door as the entrance to the room. The errand boy pushed it open then left. Inside was an older gray haired man siting up on his bed. Another younger man probably in his twenties was sitting in a chair.
Older Man:"They sent some real beauties this time. I like the one with red and brown hair."
Younger Man:"Then I'll take the other one."
Older Man:"You'll have to wait until I have some fun with the two of them."
Younger Man:"Of course father. I'll wait for my turn."
Older Man:"You two come here."
Ruby and I made our way to the bed. I could see a small piece of the golden bracer on his left hand. When we got close enough I pulled out a dagger I had sewn into my dress and plunged it into his heart. Ruby immediately dashed towards the young man while pulling out her dagger, but before I could turn around I heard the crackling of lightning. Ruby was sent flying back and landed on the ground rolling. She was still conscious, but the shock caused all of her limbs to numb so she couldn't move. Before I could do anything a bolt of lightning flew from the young man to me.
I couldn't move and just lied there on the ground. The young man walked over to the older mans body and pushed up his sleeve. The older man was wearing a golden bracer with a lightning bolt on it, but only on his left hand. The young man wore the second bracer. He picked up the older mans bracer and put it on. Lightning began to jump from finger to finger.

Young Man:"This must be what it's like to be a god. All this power at my finger tips. I really must thank you girls for killing him. I've wanted the other bracer for so long, but I couldn't beat him in a fight. The bracers also don't work on each other so I was running out of ideas on how to take it."
He walked over to me and glanced over Ruby and I.
Young Man:"I was expecting company tonight and there's no point in wasting such beauties. The two of you won't be able to move for a while, but I'm sure we can still have some fun."
He picked me up and walked over to the bed. He kicked the older mans corpse off the bed and placed me in it then brought Ruby. The two of us were awake, but couldn't move. The younger man started to undress.
Younger Man:"I'm going to thoroughly enjoy the two of you."
We walked back over to he bed, but before he could climb in a rock tour through his chest leaving a hole where his heart was. He collapsed immediately and behind him stood a woman with brown hair that reached her shoulders. She looked like she was in her early twenties and wore a beautiful blue dress that emphasized her large bust. She waved her hand at us and all the pain from my body disappeared. Ruby and I were able to sit up.
Cal:"Who are you?"
Woman:"I'm Helen."
******************Keltor POV*****************
I've been traveling with Laya to the beastman capitol for a little over three weeks now and we're almost there. The memories I got from becoming one with Keltor told me that Drexel had a high position in the beastman kingdom. Laya told me he was currently the ruler. I only traveled with him for a short time so I didn't really know him very well, but I was still interested in how he turned out.
I had been running tests on the hero weapons to see if any kind of god level magic affected them, but sadly it doesn't. I also found out Laya had a comparability to the second hero weapon Jack got. The grimoire called the Clavicula Salomonis Regis also known as the Lesser Key Of Solomon. It has spells for controlling demons and even creating some. The zombie demons were some that were included.
She carried the book with her on this trip and spent a lot of time reading it. Only someone who is compatible with a hero weapon can use it so no one else could even read that grimoire. I didn't let anyone else touch the hero weapons we had and locked them in the royal vault. I told Jeanette not to let anyone touch the weapons.
I still had some experiments I wanted to test out before seeing if anyone is compatible with them. I wasn't planning on giving the lesser key of Solomon to Laya, but when I found her reading it I knew it was to late to take it away.
Keltor:"Find anything good in that book."
Laya:"There's a lot of spells for binding demons. Mind control over demons seems to be the main magic from this book."
Keltor:"Will it only work on demons?"
Laya:"I think, but these spells seem so powerful that you just might be able to use it on other races."
Keltor:"I guess it's a good thing Jack wasn't able to master it."
Laya:"He could have taken over the entire world with he help of this book. I understand why he couldn't master it. The spells are very difficult, but the demon creation seems like something I could do with a little work."
Keltor:"I would rather not see anymore of those zombies."
Laya:"I'm interested in combining the techniques in this book with the ones in Tessa's book."
Keltor:"Sounds interesting."
Laya:"It's just a guess, but I think the two books together could create a way to revive the dead. I'm not talking about necromancy. It would be a real revival. They would be exactly how they were before they died in both body and soul."
Keltor:"Lets keep that between you, me and Tessa. Run your theory by her when we get back."
Laya:"I don't know if it will work out right, but I think it's very possible."
Keltor:"First we get a cure to aging and now revival. If we ever reveal this to the world then everything will change."
We made camp to rest for the night and as I fell asleep I thought about who I might revive if it works.Back to Main Page

Flame Beneath The Snowfall
Alto is a world governed by Tones. Magic, as one might call it. Manifested through deep mental and physical conditioning, one can control the Tones in a way that is unique to them. The power to store items in gems, transfer life, affect a person's mind, and even the more primal abilities such as control of the elements. Those who have these supernatural abilities are called 'Vassals.' People that fully manifest their abilities are not as common as one might think, and not all Vassals acquire their ability through practice, given if conditions are met. In fact, those who had received much trauma manifest the Tones more frequently, albeit spontaneously. However, the rare kind of Vassals are those who manifest it from childhood. A gift, but not without its repercussions. Alto is stuck in a transitional era, where the line between modern and dated technology is blurred. One can travel to a city that has a tall skyline, bustling with people in sophisticated clothing, or a mere town governed by a lord, all the while riding on a powered vehicle. Cultures vary: Some turn to the more dated practices such as castes, others are more inclined to set equal footing on their people, led by nobility. Some are dedicated to become scholars, studying Alto's Tones, while others set foot on hunts, protecting lone towns from the creatures of some of the still-untamed lands. And the Vassals? Those willing are took under The Organization, an elusive group, its presence said to permeate all throughout Alto, taking care of Rogue Vassals that abuse their abilities and other businesses related to their side. But what is this story all about, you may ask? Well, set your sights on the upper portions of this huge landmass that is Alto. Yes, the 'whole' world is called Alto, but that is because the majority of the known people live on this large continent. Relieve yourself of the worrying tensions everywhere, and see the white snow. Trace the piercing mountaintops and focus your eyes between the valley. A town sits there. Mido. After realizing that the memories only left in his mind was the night of his town's imminent destruction in flames, a boy finds himself grasping for every fiber of his life as he lays down flat on the ground. Beneath him was soot mixed with the white snow. Fortunately, a group of investigators, who were supposed to answer their call for help, saved him from his sorry state. With a newfound second wind, but hampered by his loss of memory, he must solve his own case: Who had the audacity to set Mido, his town, aflame? Flame Beneath the Snowfall focuses on action, with a sense of adventure, but mostly the discovery of an outside world, and the protagonist's exposure to it. Add in a whisk of soft magical elements, and you get a story that I hope will be interesting to the readers. That is not to say that my work is without the sense of unnerving atmosphere, however. As a forewarning, there are elements of gore, horror, minor elements of mental trauma, etc. so it is not for all audiences. *The book is already completed. Although I have plans to continue the story (it would have to involve much larger scope in terms of world-building), I have yet to decide when to start the next entry.
