《A Side Villain’s Ballad.》067 House Visit

Neidr's goal had become so far away and unattainable in his heart, a deep darkness swept over his heart as he thought about his future of lazing that would never come to pass. All because he thought he was more clever than everyone else. In the dark of night, with the beating of rain and boots on the roads of Rotham his only lullaby, he faded in and out of consciousness before finally succumbing to sleep. It was only in the twilight of the morning that Neidr, lightheaded and weak, poked his head out of his hiding space. The sound of rushed marching had long dwindled away, replaced by the quiet footsteps of a small patrol party. Peaking over the road, he found that no one else was awake at this time aside from a couple of bored guards who had seemingly already gotten bored of this path. The streets were also covered with the sleeping, curled up bodies of the homeless. Neidr searched deep within himself and found that his magic had not yet nearly recovered. Looking down at himself, his clothes were barely recognizable. Tattered and shredded, but also covered with blood and mud. Neidr looked back up at the guards as their backs slowly got smaller, they wore full plate armor, covered from head to toe. This was something he had not yet seen in Rotham before.
Neidr could not help but wonder if this was in response to what happened yesterday. Afterall, he had killed more than a couple of soldiers. Neidr grinned and chuckled at the thought, but he soon felt the weakness in his body as it began to ache. He crawled up onto the street, keeping one eye on the guards as he snuck towards a homeless man sleeping on the side of the street. Neidr snaked his arm around the man's throat and tightened, the man woke up and tried to scream, but no sound would come out. He clawed and scratched at Neidr's arms, trying to be released, but to no avail. Neidr dragged him backwards towards the culvert like a beast dragging its prey back to its den. When guards turned around to go back down the street, their voices broke the silence of the morning, as Neidr stripped the homeless man and exchanged their clothes.

"Dammit! One of the loafers is gone." Neidr could hear one of them stomp his foot as he said,
"Damn stubborn thing! We told him he had to get permission to move, when he gets back, we'll have to teach him a lesson." The first guard responded nervously,
"What if he doesn't come back soon, how are we going to explain we lost someone, the captain will have our heads for negligence!" There was a silence, then the second guard cursed in a quiet voice,
"We'll just tell the captain that there are only seven loafers on this street instead of eight if he doesn't come back in time for inspection. If he dares come back after that... Well, there really will be eight people on this street."
Neidr smiled hearing this, since these guards didn't want to search for the man or report that he was missing, that made Neidr's job easier. Freshly dressed, Neidr waited until the sound of clanking metal armor passed him by before moving out of the culvert with his new clothes. Snaking away into the alleyway, before climbing on top of a nearby building to get a better look. Neidr could see the patrols from above and as long as he stayed low to the roof, they shouldn't spot him, unless they were specifically looking up. Neidr knew the city pretty well, he didn't travel there every day, but he knew where a certain master of ceremonies lived. After finding his bearings, Neidr crawled back down and slinked his way through the city.
He took it slow and made it past the early morning patrols, who took more time to grumble about having to do their job, than they did to actually take in their surroundings. This got so bad at some points, that Neidr was starting to get suspicious of them, but there would be no point in letting him go on purpose, would there? This occupied Neidr's mind, and he was becoming more and more sure someone was up to something. Afterall, when had anything been this easy? Neidr shook his head and continued forward, it didn't really matter if it was a trap or not, if he didn't get somewhere soon, he would surely die from his injuries anyway. Neidr came across Palder's house and pried the door open with his knife after making sure nobody was watching him. He slipped in and closed the door behind him.

The place was rather small, He headed towards Palder's bedroom and opened the door, making sure not to make any sound. He found Palder fast asleep, a woman wrapped up in his arms. Neidr wanted to cuss. Here he was barely standing, and Palder, that little bastard had a damn foolish grin on his face. Neidr placed his hand on Palder's mouth. As the man lost oxygen, he opened his eyes in shock and fear, the first thing that greeted him was Neidr's crooked smile as he held up a dirty finger to his lips. Neidr whispered in a ghoulish voice,
"Be Quiet, I've come to receive my favor, Mr. Master of Ceremonies."
