《Grasping for the Heavens》Chapter Eleven

As I walked into the mansion, I’m pleasantly surprised by the row of servants bowing down while leading to what I assume is the dining table. And boy, what a dining table, it’s massive, at least, I think it’s big. But this table can probably host at least a hundred or so people. Why do rich people always do these extravagant things?
Sitting down, Miss Shy Girl’s father asks, “Alright son, where did you find this fine young man?”
No wait. You just called your daughter boy. That doesn’t make any sense. Is your child a boy or a girl, please tell me. I’m going to get very confused in a moment here if no one clarifies for me.
“Yes, please tell use where you found this man daughter!” the mother adds.
No, no no. People are usually born with one biological gender, what is the biological gender of your child, why are you calling him a girl, than calling her a boy, then calling him a girl. I don’t understand.
Noticing my perplexed look, the father asks, “Young man, what’s the matter? Not used to such warm family dinners?”
Ah… No…
“No… I was just wondering, why is it you keep calling alternating between calling your child daughter and son. I’m sorry, I’m… A bit new, so I was wondering why.” I answer.
“Ahh… I see this young man doesn’t have any common sense huh.” Says the father while stroking his beard. Did I mention he had a beard? The beard looked like those beards you would see on old chinese dudes, and would slowly stroke their beards while saying nonsense.
“Right, time for a crash course on human anatomy, or any human, really. Humans usually live to about the ages 500, this age changes between subspecies, but the age is generally around there. Humans remain genderless for about the first thirty years of their life, after all, they still need protection from their parents, right?” the man pauses to look at his child worriedly. He/she looks away.

I don’t think he/she needs your help…
The man, looking like he was tearing up, continued, “Anyways, continuing on, the age in which one leans to either gender is usually around 30, again, varying between subspecy to another.”
I see… So normal life expectancy is 500 huh… And humans remain genderless for 30 years… I don’t see anything wro-. No wait. Humans usually only live to about 100 with a few rare exceptions… When did life expectancy extend all the way to 500 years old… And also, being genderless for 30 years? What about puberty… Oh whatever, this is a new world, things from my old world don’t matter anymore, right? Oh, this steak is really delicious.
“Right, I had another question, why is it that you don’t use cars. If you used a car, your baby wouldn’t have gotten to such a far distance you know.”
Glancing between each other, the mother speaks up this time, “I don’t know if you know, but cars are an ancient technology, they no longer work.”
No, no, no. That’s wrong. I remember seeing those cars back in that rich kids town. Why is that car’s suddenly don’t work… Is it because they’re in different countries? But they live quite close by… And adding to the fact that they don’t seem alarmed as to what I am. Now that I think about it. Did I ever tell them me species? Eh… My, this soup is excellent, I want to give the cook a hug.
“So… As a guard captain, what am I supposed to do.” I ask.
“Right. Have you heard of the proclamation from the king of this kingdom?” Asks the father. Maybe I should just call him Father, that would be much easier.
“No, I haven’t heard of this king.”

“Right,” says Father, “Well the king doesn’t have any heirs, so he said anyone who could build a tower that could reach the skies, would be allowed to be king.”
“That doesn’t make sense, he should have plenty of children that can become men.” I say. Afterall, can’t you just choose to be a boy or girl when you hit the age 30?
“Well… The king’s children are a bit… Special… They all chose to be women instead.” Says Mother. Yeah, I decided arbitrarily to call her Mother.
“And women can’t run the kingdom?”
“It’s not that women can’t run the kingdom, it’s that the ability to rule, is only given to males. Don’t ask me why, but some ancient ritual was placed on the royal family so that only boys would be able to inherit the throne. I’ve no clue why, but that just so happens to be the case”. Says Father.
No, no, no, can’t you see this is all set up by the auth- *cough* I mean it’s all set up by some type of evil organisation? Oh whatever…
“Right, so what’s my job for?”
“Your job is to DESTROY the families that are Grasping for the Heavens, so that OUR family will become the new royal family, and then WE will hold the power.” Says Father.
I see… So my employers have a few screws loose, I can deal with that.
“MWAHAHAHAHA *cough* I just choked on my water.” Says Father.
Yeah… I’m sure I’ll like my new job, a lot. Oh yeah, He/she never said where He/she found me.
Author’s Note:
