《Escapia: A VRMMO》Chapter 5: Shards

Lockheart and Daemon were killing tiny cactus hybrids in the scorching heat of desertium. Meanwhile, Daemon's stomach rumbled, Lockheart was already rubbing his stomach rather than fighting, giving Daemon a buff from time to time. Lockheart and Daemon's eyes met, Daemon turned his head. After a few seconds of silence, Lockheart began to speak:
"Oh, congratulations Daemon! Glad we had that sandwich on the way!"
"Ah, shut up! At least it gave us extra HP!"
"Yeah! It also gave us a brand new status effect, look above my head..."
He read the caption above Daemon Lockheart's name: Nausea.
Lockheart applauded Daemon ironically:
"Congratulations!"
Having said this, he pushed the Daemon:
"You are so annoying!"
Daemon lightly slapped Lockheart:
"Don't touch me!"
Lockheart looked at Daemon in shock:
"DID YOU JUST HIT ME?"
Daemon shrugged:
"Equal rights, equal fights. You know I'm something of a 'yearner of gender equality' myself."
Lockheart rolled his eyes and clenched his fist:
"Stop with these weird anime references, you degenerate weeb!"
A steely red glow appeared from Daemon's eyes:
"I take this as praise!"
Daemon aimed his sword at Lockheart:
"And unfortunately, I'm strong in this world."
Daemon raised his sword in the air. The dark blue mithril sword began to shine with the light of the sun:
"So I think you better not push your luck."
Lockheart grit his teeth in anger and began to laugh:
"D-daemon! I think you're the one pushing your luck here. It was only yesterday when you and I slept under the same tree because you were afraid of being alone. If you don't want me to tell the other players, shut up!"
Lockheart took off her short wand. Just as they were about to fight, a message came from the game:

"Wait for a second, Lockheart! Before I tear you apart, I need to check the game's messages!"
Daemon clicked on the menu, clicked on the "events" section, and read the message:
"[Floor 3: Caveland]'S boss is unlocked! Join the fight ASAP!
(People above level 35+ can join)"
Daemon looked hopelessly at Lockheart:
"I suppose you know how to teleport now!"
Lockheart rolled her eyes:
"Of course I do, Daemon! Do you think I'm stupid?"
Lockheart took the crystal out of her pocket and shouted:
"[Floor 3: Caveland]"
She desperately waited for the crystal to glow. But nothing happened:
"WHY IS IT STILL NOT WORKING!"
Daemon pointed over Lockheart's head:
"You're still level 34 dumbass."
"Oh great, then we have to grind even more-"
Daemon pulled out the teleport crystal before Lockheart could do anything. Lockheart shouted:
"ARE YOU GOING TO LEAVE ME HERE AGAIN! I SWEAR I'LL KILL YOU WHEN YOU COME BAC-"
Daemon teleported to the boss area. The area had an ice cave theme: The walls of the cave were frozen and ice shards were hanging and swaying from above. The ground was snow. As Daemon stepped onto the ground, his step marks are staying on the ground with blue and turquoise particles, then snow winds quickly filled the marks where he had stepped.
Boss was a huge minotaur attacking with two axes and making ice shards from the top of the cave fall.
The Boss suddenly started spinning like a valkyrie with his two axes, creating an AOE attack:
"This must be the boss's special attack," Daemon thought.
This was the second boss and people were still attacking without any strategy and couldn't avoid the boss' attacks.
There were also a lot of people who were just waiting at the entrance of the ice cave. They were "cowards" who were just waiting for Boss' HP to decrease until it was about to die.

Daemon clenched his fists and shouted:
"Hey, you cowards! Stop being a pussy and attack like everyone else!"
The attackers of the Boss started shouting at them when they realized what was waiting. A few people in the group started shouting:
"What the hell y'all waiting for?!"
"Fight properly or get out of here!"
As people listened to Daemon, he felt proud and continued:
"Archers and hunters, stay in the back and just do basic attacks with high-range! Melee fighters are careful and avoid ice shards, fight in the front until you have low HP, when you have low HP go back in front of the entrance! Healers, spam area heal spots near the boss and heal the melees! Buffers and soulmages, instead of attacking with weak AOE damage, use buff and debuff skills instead! This is just a single Boss, area damage is useless! And petmasters... the way your pets attack. Basically, you chose a class where your pet auto-attacks for you, so uhh... just make it auto-attack and that's it..."
Few of the warriors listened to him, the rest continued to fight as they used to. Daemon sighed and took out his sword.
Daemon started running towards the Boss as he always did. However, he wasn't fast enough this time, and when the Boss hit the ax to the ground, the ice shard fell on him. Daemon cried out in pain and his HP bar changed from green to yellow.
Daemon got angry and spat on the ground. He stood up again and started running towards the Boss. He approached the Boss and jumped to its height. He was planning to cut it through like before, but the Boss blocked Daemon's sword with its ax. Daemon landed and began circling the Boss. Just as Boss slammed his ax into the ground, he jumped again, preparing to stab the Boss in the back while it got distracted by other players.
The red steely glow appeared in his eyes again, he was determined to finish off the Boss.
Unaware of the trauma he was about to experience, Daemon smiled confidently and hopefully. "What could go wrong? I already killed the previous Boss! If I kill this Boss too, I'll prove my strength to the others." he thought. Daemon had forgotten that survival in this world is the key factor. Unfortunately, it wouldn't be long before he remembered its purpose again.
