《Eternal Soul》Chapter-24

They stepped out the cave, and blinded by the sunlight they closed their eyes. Grekorio eyes were already closed and using Woody's vision made it impossible to blind Grekorio, and while using that vision he could see the lights far away, so far that these lights are only dots in the horizon, and they represented the enemies that are coming from down the mountain.
Opening his eyes, he could see the narrow passageway to the cave entrance behind him and the broad road in front of him, on the left there's nothing beside the cliff edge, while on the right an almost vertical rocky wall with a few trees spread through it. Grekorio looked at the trees and thought,'Nothing suspicious with trees almost horizontal to the ground.'
To him, whom ordered Woody to send a few treants to help in this fight, was easy to realize this, but the others just found it strange and didn't gave it more thought.
But Layla was curious and asked Alexandre about it,"That is normal?", she said pointing to a tree at the wall. Alexandre stuttered to answer. And while Alexandre was satiating Layla curiosity, Grekorio walked to the cliff's edge and looked at the lush green trees that sorround the mountain foot.
Alexandre walked to his side without saying anything, Alexandre simply looked at road going down the mountain, his eyes suddenly glowed blue, soon returning to normal.
Alexandre turned to Grekorio and said," Do you find it beatiful?"
"Yes, so different from our forest."
"Yeah, but it's a pity that we, dark elves, can't live there.", Alexandre spoke sadly, and continued,"You want to ask me why, right?"
Grekorio nods and move his eyes from Alexandre back to the trees below, Alexandre did the same, and with a bit of bitterness in his voice he answered Grekorio doubt, "Since they will take a while to get here, we have some time. The main reason for that, is that we aren't 'made' to live there, just like they ,wood elves, aren't made and can't live at where we live, why? This is where it get a little complicated. It's not like if we go there we will die, but it's because we will die faster, take for example 200 years, for us elves if you die at that age you are dying early, but if we try to live there.", Alexandre pointed to the trees below, "We will die just after living for 100~120 year. For you to understand better think of a tiger, this tiger loved the water and the fishes, so it dived into the water to try living together with the fishes, but what happened? It soon died without air. It's something like that, the 'air' here is different from there."

Grekorio replied,"So basically that is the main reason why the wood elves want to 'purify' here, and they probably offered something here to the humans and high elves."
Alexandre looked suprised at Grekorio,"I never stopped to think this way, mayb-", Alexandre moved his eyes to the road, and they glowed blue again, after which he turned to the soldiers sitting on the ground and shouted at them,"Flint, get the archers and go to the passage.", the one called Flint got up and called 5 persons from the group, then the 6 together hid in the narrow passage to the cave.
"Okay, we will defend Layla here, while she attack the enemies, and Grekorio where is the help from your friend?", Layla began to chant when everyone was moving around.Grekorio answered the question while taking his position next to Alexandre and the other, "Sir, they were already here.", and pointed to the wall.
Alexandre looked at the wall and nodded.
Soon figures started to appear in their vision, Grekorio closed his eyes and soon everything was black besides the treants on the wall, the ones next to him and the enemies at the distance. Grekorio began to examine every being around him and notice a few difference.
'So the ones with murky energy are the dark elvesand treants with difference at the silhoettes and how the energy flow, Layla has a less murky energy probably because she is a half-dark elf, wood elves has a more green-ish energy. This energy flowing inside them are probably mana, 'air' like Alexandre said earlier. Strange... there're a few white colored among.', Grekorio asked Woody about it.
And it said,"Probably humans and you are right about the other things. Master, i can help with the fight."

"No need, you will probably eat too much of my exp, and it won't be much fun with you there.", Grekorio replied without mercy.
"..."
Grekorio left Woody to itself, and concentrate back to the situation, opening his eyes he said to Alexandre,"Captain, i think i saw a few humans between the enemies."
"I thought that i had imagined that, but if two see the same thing, it isn't imagination.", Alexandre then shouted to the ones in the passageway,"Humans are trickier so be more careful."
Few minutes later
The distance between them are just a few hundred meters, they couldn't bring large numbers due to the passage, but it's enough to be 2~3 times bigger than the total number under Alexandre.
Layla who had already prepared the spell long ago finally unleashed it shouting the skill name and hitting the ground with the staff, the air distorted and the ground shaked.
Bony hands broke out the ground and soon the bodies too, after standing they put their hands back in the ground and pulled shield and sword from it.
Grekorio was undecided about which sword use, and thought,'While the greatsword is cumbersome it can break at least a few enemies in each swing, and by going with the dual swords i will kill the enimies anyway.'
In the end he pulled out the greatsword, decising that while he is a dark elf he will only use this one.
Alexandre shouted, "ATTACK!"
The hundred skeletons sprinted towards the enemies following the order from Layla, while she stayed at the same place. Grekorio turned to Alexandre and said, "Sir, can i go?"
Alexandre looked at him and said, "Go, but don't die, our plan here is just to tire them a little and run, letting them feel as if victory was on their grasp."
"Yes, sir!", Grekorio blended in middle of the skeletons and together they sprinted to meet the enemy.
"Woody, after the undeads diminish, order the treants to cause a landslide, and after we enter the cave send one or three treants to attack them if they stop to rest, try to pushing them inside the cave, understood?"
"Understood, master."
After confirming that Woody understood, Grekorio jumped at his first victim.

Moonblood
Five moons rise over Evanir, each in her own cycle, and each moon is also a god, one of five sisters. Many gods create spirit attendants and companions, brought forth fully-formed. Long ago, the moons worked together to create a lineage that are, instead, humans transformed by the mingling of blood. They intended them to be long-lived and to draw their strength directly from the light of the moon who chose each individual. The five sisters had different goals in mind – one wanted it to be a blessing for scholars and artists, to give them more time and fewer physical distractions; another wanted them to have an animal form, different for each, to keep them more in tune with nature so they could serve as guardians of the wilderness. There are drawbacks to their children having human lives and personalities before being chosen: not all share the goals of their divine mothers, and some choose to put their gifts to darker uses. Those carrying the blood of one woman, fleeing the corruption in search of a quiet life, take a different path. -=-=-=-=- Moonblood isn't so much a novel as a series of adventures of varying length. They involve a core group of people, which does grow over time. They take place in a fairly low-magic world, but despite that, our core cast are directly connected to the moons and have various abilities, including limited shapeshifting to a single individual animal form. As with all my work, unless gender, orientation, or other aspects of sexuality are explicitly stated, I suggest not making assumptions. Probably most significant, I think, is a major trans character who appears about 80K words in - no spoilers, just a note for those who care about that one way or the other.
