《Aether: The World Inside a Dream》2.8 - Good Bye

I had just come down the room and Aneesa soon caught my eye. “Ara, you and Murakami took a while to wake up today. Did something happen yesterday? Fufufu.”
Well, of course it took us a while to wake up. After all, it was only possible for us to return to the hotel when the night game was over. Hm? Strange, for some reason I can't really remember last night... Did anyone actually win the competition after all?
Aneesa is saddened. "Love-chan didn't look too good either... Even though you two woke up late, she woke up much earlier! It looked like she had been up all night!”
"So she stop by here?! Do you know where she went??”
Aneesa sighs. “The only thing she said before she left was that she would get some fresh air out of town… Poor thing, I wonder what happened to her… Hm? Are you on your way out?”
“I'm to blame for her being like this, I'm going to settle things!”
"Ara, good luck then!"
Before leaving the inn, my eyes meet Scarlett and Lily's. The two were talking at one of the tables. Scarllet was drinking a milkshake, and she seemed in a good mood. Lily was fine too, and was eating a donut bigger than herself.
Lily offers to go with me, but Scarllet stops her. “Let's wait for him to come back with Loveta.”
Scarllet sighs and looks at me as if to say “You sure are hopeless…”, but then she motions with her hand for me to go after her.
Thanks for understanding me, Scarlett!
I look at her gratefully, and walk out the doors.
That's right, that's something only I can solve!
Okay, if I had more help it would be better... I have no idea where she went! I've been running this forest for half an hour, and no sign of her yet!

[Phew, if only you had listened to my last piece of advice...]
I know, I know! Now stop lecturing me and help me! Use that danger sensor of yours to help me track her!
[...Huh? Where did you get that I have this ability?]
...Don’t you have?
[If I had, obviously I would have used it already... ——!! Kazuki! Look to your right!]
I follow the direction indicated by Phanta and—
“Loveta?!”
To my surprise, she was high up on a tree branch.
Perfect! This is my chance!
"Loveta, about yesterday, I'm sorry! I—? Wait! Where are you going?!”
Out of the blue, before I could complete a single sentence, she simply leaves the branch and starts fleeing through the adjacent trees. I chase after her without a second thought.
“Wait, Loveta! Just listen to what I have to say!”
Damn it! No matter what I say, she keeps running! Did I hurt her so much that she can’t even hear my voice anymore?”
Her speed starts to increase progressively.
Tch! If it continues like this, I'll end up losing sight of her!
“Skill: -0.1 gram loops!”
[System Warning: Player Agility increased by 30% for 20 seconds.]
I know... maybe she wants to be alone. I do know that, but she could do it within the city walls, couldn’t her? It's too dangerous out here! Even though she is an S rank!”
The forest starts to get thick, and Loveta jumps into a place full of bushes. As soon as I imitate her—
BOOOM!
—Fire and smoke fill the air.
“Grrrrrrr! Take that! Gaaaaaaaa!”
Loveta throws her chains, but the lizardman uses the cannon on his back as a jet to fly. "Now I want to see you reach me here, little wolf! Tststststs!”
Wait a minute, I got in here as fast as she did... How did Loveta start a fight in that short amount of time? Well, whatever! I've seen this lizard before! He's the same one who was protecting the tower the first day I came here, along with other Imperials!

“Hey, you bastard! Leave Loveta alone!!”
I aim my bow shooting my arrows, but he dodges and glares at me.
Loveta also looks at me in surprise. “Master?! What are you doing here?!”
“What do you mean what am I doing here?! I wanted to talk to you before—But you kept running away!”
“Are you talking about yesterday?
What? Don’t tell me she doesn't remember... Is she playing some mind game by any chance?
“Tssssss! Hey citizen, if you shoot one more arrow you will become an enemy of the Empire! Wait...? Do I know you?”
"He's... the friend of the... ex-Silver Princess..." Says someone from the top of a tree. It was the zombie man, relaxed on a branch.
“Tshhhh! Friend of the ex-Princess?!”
The lizard is worried, and Loveta takes advantage of the breach, attacking him squarely with her chains. “Quick Master! Get out of here now!”
“What are you talking about?! I won’t leave you behind!”
I prepare to shoot a few more arrows at the lizard, but just then the zombie man simply appears in front of me, holding his scythe. "The miss is not... here right now... Without her... you won't stand a chance against us... Be obedient and listen to our advice... Go home..."
"As if I would listen to you, bunch of bastards!"
The zombie man sighs and places his scythe around my neck. "This is my last warning... If you interfere with this battle... You will be considered an enemy of the Empire... This is an official knight hunt against soul-Linkeds... For some reason... the stone de Gouti is no longer detecting an abnormality in you... So... as a good purified citizen... obey the advice... and go home...”
"Whether or not I become an enemy of the Empire, I don't care! You messed with Loveta, so you're going to pay dearly for it!!”
Just as I'm about to make the move to escape the scythe, Loveta screams. “Wait! Wait! I surrender! You can take me, but please, leave him alone!”
What?! Did she go crazy??!
“Excellent...”
“Just because I was starting to have fun… Tstststs!”
The zombie disappears from where he was, and reappears behind Loveta, handcuffing her.
"Very smart of you... soul-linked...”
The lizard also lands beside her.
“No… I can’t accept this!” I aim my bow again. My hands were shaking.
“Master... please, listen to me! It will be better this way! I already knew this would happen at some point... I don't want to see you in danger! They are dangerous!”
“But do you think I'll accept that?! That I'm just going to abandon you here?!”
Her eyes sparkle at my words. “It's good to hear that from you…but it will be better this way. You will be happier with Akami...”
No... This is wrong!
“Tsshhhh! Enough of the blah blah blah! Let's go! The ex-Princess can appear at any moment!”
The zombie nods and places Loveta on its back.
I don't accept... I won't accept this!!
I move to unleash a special ability, but just then a warning appears before me.
[System Warning: Body immobilized. You are unable to move again for an ‘indefinitely’ amount of time]
Huh?! Shit!! Was it you Phanta?! Is it you who are stopping me?!
[I'm sorry player, but I’m doing this for your own good. You can’t stand a chance against them.]
——Tch!!

Tales From the Terran Republic
We tried, you know… We really did. We tried so hard to be… better… We actually were better once. No, seriously. We were enlightened, generous, peaceful… Stop laughing! We were! We were peaceful, dammit! No, I’m not “tugging your winglets.” It’s true! Look, if you’re going to be like that, I’ll just push the launch button right now. See ya, don’t wanna be… Oh, you ARE interested after all? Ok. Hey, I just got word that your captain will be ok. We were able to get him into a med pod quick enough… Of course, we tried to save him. Just what sort of people do you think we are?... Now that was harsh… completely accurate, mind you… but harsh. Anyway, like I was saying, we were a prosperous, peaceful people, and war had been nothing but a distant memory for over five hundred years before it happened... Before Yellowstone happened! You don’t mean to tell me that you didn’t know about that… massive supervolcano? Blew the Hell out of our planet? Two years where nothing grew?… Anyway, that’s what started it, the Sol Wars… Oh, you have heard about those, huh? Well, needless to say, all that enlightened, generous, and peaceful didn’t exactly make it through the two years of complete famine and the wars that followed… Maybe it’s more accurate to say the enlightened, generous, and peaceful among us didn’t survive… (laughs)… You’re right. It does explain a lot, doesn’t it? Probably for the best, though. “Enlightened” and “peaceful” aren’t really all that useful out here in the galaxy at large, are they? That reminds me; thanks for the ship. You guys did a great job with this one. Oh, don’t be like that. At least it was us what got you and not one of the really messed groups like the Harlequin or the Black Angels. We’re just going to take your shit. It could be worse… trust me... Well, anyway, we loaded the life pods down with some good food, and you guys can drink alcohol, right? We put in a couple of fifths in there, too. It’s about forty percent ethanol, so be warned. Most species will want to dilute that. We’ll drop your wounded off somewhere safe once they are stable. Your fleet patrols this area fairly regularly, and we’ll drop the distress beacon right before we jump… Well, It’s been fun and no hard feelings, right?… Oh, you want to know some more? Sure. I got time to kill… Let me tell you about this one pirate and her crew. They’re Terran scum, but they are still… Why do we hate the Terrans? Hoo Boy… How much time you got? *** It’s the thirty-second century, and humanity is now part of a galactic civilization comprised of hundreds of worlds. Humanity has been savaged by natural disaster and war and has been fractured into several separate populations, all of which loathe each other (some things never change). This is a gritty drama-driven rambling tale that swings between action, drama, horror, and plenty of very, very dark comedy. Warning: contains adult situations, absolutely horrible language, bathroom humor, implied ultra-violence, actual ultra-violence, drugs, alcohol, pirates, mercs, xeno prostitutes, moral ambiguity, deranged AI's with identity issues, giant commie space slugs, and a poor little frog girl who just wants to sell coffee. Updates twice weekly on Tuesday and Friday. *** Note: This story can get rough. Those warning tags? They aren't for show. I recently received a review and as a result I want to make one thing clear. Portraying something is NOT endorsing it! Many "heavy" topics are touched upon and just because a character says or does something does not imply that the author feels the same way. I selected the "Anti-Hero Lead" and "Villainous Lead" tags for a reason. Rule number one of this story is "no good guys". A good description of the story is, "bad people doing bad things to worse people". There are a few good characters, here and there, but they are the exception to the rule. If you want a hard-hitting, exciting, gritty sci-fi story that doesn't pull any punches, or shies away from "difficult" concepts, welcome! If you are set on a pure and noble knight that runs around and slays conveniently evil monsters and rescues totally innocent princesses... or your sensibilities are easily offended... You're not going to be happy with this one.

Starlight Antiquities
There is a place in the galaxy that deals in antiquities of all kinds, human and non-human alike. Its inventory of artifacts is colossal as is its inventory of mercs who they hire to acquire any artifact a client may wish that is yet to come into their possession. The ill-reputable business is constantly rubbing against the changing tolerance of the Union's government, and there are many security officers who would love nothing better than to vaporize the whole place with its owners inside. Yet, there are many tasks that nobody can do better, especially in the vastness of deep space where Union law is worth less than the energy needed to display it. One of its jobs involves finding an artifact that may not only hold the future of the human race but may also disturb the balance of the whole galaxy. *** While waiting for the next season of Mandalorian and the Witcher, and rewatching Firefly for the gazillionth of time, I decided to write this space-based series. The series has some litRPG elements in it, but it does not read like one. So, you won't run into any blue screens here. Yet, I wanted to use litRPG to give another dimension to this whole story and make it as unique as possible. This is a work-in-progress. Hope to keep on improving and fixing my mistakes as I go along.

Fighting to be Kind in a Cultivation World
Aren't you tired of the typical cultivation story, where an isekai'd person comes into the world and becomes a brutal or selfish person? I know I am. So instead of being fully changed by the world, I want this protagonist to stick to their beliefs and help to change the world (and people) for the better. There will still be main character development and tests of those beliefs, but I want them to maintain that aspect. Brief Synopsis:American is thrown into a typical Xuanhuan cultivation world where the masses of the people are typically sacrificed for the abilities of the few. This is meant to be an alternate take on how protagonists approach these worlds. Main character comes into the world w/ scanning, healing, and monster taming abilities. The release schedule will begin on Dec 1st. The schedule is 2 chapters/week (Tue & Fri) at 11pm. Please like, comment, and follow, as that helps me to gauge interest in the series. Final note: I notice that many cultivation novels treat abuse or sexual assault as a throwaway tool to set a stage. I think the way it is normally done is both lazy and a disrespectful to victims. If you have any suggestions on how I can improve the way I've done it in this series, please let me know. I want to do this the right way. P.S. *Nudge, nudge* If you are looking for a sneak peek of up to 16 chapters ahead, check out my Patreon. :D
