《Bend》21. Heal the World

The battered man pulled the sword out of the cracked ceiling and stumbled up to Leera.
“I was dead. The gates were opening, and I saw Heaven. I marveled in its radiance.” The knight placed the sword tip down with his hand on the hilt and took a knee. “But then you touched my heart, and I was blinded a tenfold by your grace. My sword is yours, for you shine brighter than Heaven itself.”
“I have no use for a sword,” Leera said. “But if you’ll help me stop the war, I accept your pledge.”
Leera knelt next to Maya. “I’m sorry.”
“It’s not your fault,” the knight said and gathered up Maya in his arms. “You’ll have time to grieve, but we need to go back now.”
The portal shimmered and flickered weakly, the arcana almost completely drained. Together they stepped through, returning to the Temple of Minah.
Leera opened the wall. The sun broke through the clouds and warmed her face. She sighed and sat down in the grass. She hadn’t realized until now the extent of her exhaustion. She struggled to keep her eyes open.
Bryne was the first one to notice. His face lit up, but his eyes fell on Maya. In an instant, the color drained from his face. With his red hair burning behind him, he ran up to the knight and took Maya from him.
“W-what happened?” he said.
“Ryze,” Leera said tiredly. “I’m so sorry.”
Bryne’s focus returned to Maya. The veins in his forehead bulged. Leera saw a single tear roll down his face.
“Hey, wake up…” he whispered. “Please, Maya…”
It was heart-wrenching to see his usually confident and blasé demeanor melt away, like an icicle under the spring sun. He really did love her. Leera could see that in the way he desperately caressed her unmoving body, in the way his fingers dug into her caramel skin, and in the way he kissed her forehead. Leera couldn’t help but wonder if she’d ever experience a love like that.

“I… I-I love you… There, I said it. Please don’t… You can’t be dead…”
Maya blinked and opened her eyes. Her viridescent irises glittered in the sunlight.
“It only took… me almost dying… for you… to admit that.” Her voice was dry and throaty.
Bryne laughed in astonishment, tears still rolling down his cheeks. He pressed his lips against hers and kissed her deeply.
Wide-eyed Leera looked at Quick. How was this possible? She had seen Ryze slit her throat. She had felt the blood seeping through her fingers. She hadn’t been able to stop the bleeding.
“You were always able to heal the bruises on your own body by simply touching them,” Quick said and pointed at the stones on the string around Maya's neck. “The countless tears you shed on the rocks of your necklace infused them with the power to heal the wounds of any earth-bender.”
Leera remembered her cuts and bruises in the orphanage, how she’d used to press her palms against them. Was that what the voice in the temple had meant when she healed the knight? She’d always thought it was her imagination when the swelling went down a little and the pain subsided.
Leera tilted her head back. Thin clouds, like white scars, covered the sky. She held out her hand. One by one she brushed the clouds away until only the pristine blue remained. She had always been a healer. Maybe she could save everyone. Perhaps that was her job… to heal the world.

Charlotte Powers: Diary of a Would-Be Superhero
The journal of a girl who thinks she knows. (Spoiler: She does not know.) "...an odd combination of stream-of-conscious anxieties and high-flying save-the-world goals written by an overzealous, naïve teenaged girl in her wristwatch computer diary."-readers are better at describing stories than the writers who wrote them "When it's over you look up: the world looks the same, but you are somehow different and that feeling lingers for days."-bit OTT but I'll take it "...everything cannot just be good and then be even more good, in this story, right?"-100% accurate assessment "...the plot was bland and the character uninteresting. It was just a very dull read. I cannot recommend this book to anyone."-oh well can't win them all Discord for discussion. Complain about Charlotte's nonsense! Ship the characters! Do a thing! Now entering the second arc, Power Play. Things are getting serious. We're heading towards something important. Charlotte is still largely clueless. But she is trying so hard.

Stories Of Indlu
“… to grow, for opportunity, for adventure, to be free. Join the colony ship Nao Vittoria. Be the first to live amongst the stars.” It was obvious from the literature that the NextStar corporation wanted the young, the adventurous and the brilliant. So why were the super rich fighting over seats? Why were AI’s trying to stow away? Did this signify a premature end to human/AI civilisation? Why had some questions directed to NextStar been aggressively sidelined? Why did the colonist inflight entertainment trial produce fatalities? In fact, why colonists at all? Those and many other questions, however, boiled down to a single central question. Why was the world’s most advanced AI dumped with a hundred year babysitting job for 50 million people speeding towards an uninhabitable planet? It made such little sense. The only sure way to get answers, catch a ride on the Nao Vittoria and play the inflight entertainment game, Pax Domini. I joined, and this is my story. Well, I feature. OK, I’m more of a spectator. Actually, I’m completely irrelevant I was just there. I’m only the storyteller. But what a story to tell. --------- Hi All, Content will be published weekly usually Saturday and typical posts will be 25oo to 4ooo words per post. Though for some reason the Royal Road word count does not include the content of tables so some posts may not appear to meet this criteria. Currently I have written sufficient unedited content to keep this schedule for the next 12 months (half way through the first story arc). My current productivity would indicate that I can maintain this schedule for well into the second story arch. This also allows for the additional content that will be posed exclusively on Patreon (https://www.patreon.com/StoriesOfIndlu). This additional content follows minor characters, peripheral events, maps and other content that does not take away from the main story. I would love to accelerate the post schedule but to meet this I need the assistance of more beta readers than I currently have. So please let me know if you are interested. - Andy ©2022 Andy Leauter. Words I Left Unsaid
"Like a treasure map in a bottle, We were slowly drifting apart, Mother Nature sailing our purpose out to sea, The more I got to know you, I realised how much of a hoax your devotion was, Almost as fake as the smile I paint across my shattered face."This collection of poetry releases trauma in the form of expression - mainly the words I could never build up the courage to say. Most of these poems present conflict of the mind and allude to mental health struggles, which may be relatable to a certain community of people.Ranks -#3 in poem#3 in poembook#8 in poetry collection #7 in sadpoems#6 in poemcollection #7 in wisdom #15 in poetic
