《The Exploiter》Humble Living (2) Preparing the chicken

'I guess I need to prepare and cook the chicken then?'
Frey's eyes drifted over towards the bloody corpse of the chicken, its plump body now lay lifelessly flat with some thin splinters protruding from varies areas.
He squatted down beside the body and observed it expecting a screen to pop up saying something like "Prepare chicken?" or something, but, to his confusion, not a single pop-up window appeared.
'Does this mean... I have to actually do it all manually?'
A truly shocking thought, but, perhaps the only logical possibility at this point.
"Ugh..." A groan escaped his lips as he reached over towards the corpse. The sticky red blood of the chicken staining his hands as he slowly plucked each of the visible splinters from its skin.
'There's going to be too much blood, my hands are covered just from getting rid of the damn splinters... I'll have to drain it first.'
After removing all the visible splinters, Frey knew he should drain the chicken of its blood to make plucking it easier. The only problem is, of course, how could he slice its skin without a knife?
Again, there was absolutely no knife in the hut, but, with all the stones outside, Frey had an idea, an idea that may not work, but an idea nonetheless.
He left the chicken where it lay and walked outside for a moment before strolling back in with a rock. The rock he carried was very average, apart from the fact that one of its sides seemed to have a point. Of course, that wouldn't be much to note but with all the scratches on the point, it seems that Frey would have scraped it against another rock to "sharpen" the rock.
'...This certainly won't slice... but maybe...'

Frey walked up to the chicken's corpse and once again, crouched down beside it.
He moved hay from outside and put it around the chicken like a wall before spreading the chicken out as far as it could stretch, raised the rock above his head and then...
*THUD THUD THUD*
He continually pounded the rock against the chicken's small neck, each time digging the sharp part into the neck. He had closed his eyes to shield from the blood but, surprisingly, no blood spurted up, and instead only slightly marked the stone.
After hitting the chickens neck no more than 6 times, the head rolled away from its body with a small trail of blood following.
'It worked!'
A smile worked its way onto Frey's young face as he grabbed the headless chicken and hung it above his hay pile so that it could bleed into the hay.
About a minute passed before Frey realised it was going to take a very long time if he left it up to this method, so, after briefly mulling it over in his head, he thought that the best course of action would be to skin and gut the chicken whilst it was still bleeding without plucking its feathers.
This wasn't as easy a task as he had first thought, even though it was just a chicken, manually pulling the skin off of the chicken was quite difficult. The only starting point he had was the neck which had been bleeding for a few minutes already, his fingers constantly slipped off of the flesh it probably took 20 minutes of solely pulling and tearing to actually skin the plump chicken.
'Wow... This is taking a lot longer than I had anticipated.'
Luckily, gutting the chicken was a lot easier and by the time he was finished, the chicken was practically free of blood.

"*Sigh* I suppose its time to finally cook it then? I wonder when that man will come back, I assume this is a timed mission, I am taking a lot longer than I should be..."
Frey passively picked up the chicken and walked towards the fire, he reached to the left side of the fire where there was a metal pole where one would impale what you wished to cook and then slowly roast. Frey had seen hog-roasting often enough in games to understand how it works without much difficulty.
'Whilst that cooks on that side I should quickly dispose of all the blooded hay.'
The hut was far messier than it originally was, so without wasting any more time, Frey grabbed the broken cage and started stuffing the bloodied hay inside. It didn't take too long and before long, the broken cage was filled with bloody, wet, sticky hay. He left it besides the door as he still had absolutely no idea of how things worked around here.
Returning back to the roasting chicken, he continued rotating the corpse over the fire.

Queer Tales From A Street Nominally Associated With Your Reality
The street is not from your world, and yet it's attached, clinging like a shadowy limpet to the edge of your London, your city skyline stabbing into it from above. Or well that's what we tell ourselves, no one who lives here really knows. We are after all just regular folk displaced from our original realities. Just a bunch of folks with queer tales from a street nominally associated with your reality. What to expect: - A series of interlinked short stories gradually unpacking the lives, complications and mysteries associated with those who live in the street - A weird pseudo-British setting where physics works inconsistently, and houses move position regularly - Stories filled with LGBTQ+ characters, and in particular ones on the trans/nonbinary spectrum - Potentially iffy grammar, I'm new to publishing my work online, so whilst I am checking things before posting it’s a near certainty that some things will slip through - A schedule of one chapter every two weeks.
