《The Legend Of Drog》Chapter 9: Breaking Through!

Go, Ro and No listened to their Big Sister Ri and sat down at the table; once they sat down No turned his head towards Drog. "Where were you today?" he asked.
"Why?" Drog asked.
"What do you mean by why?" No asked confused.
Drog sighed, "Why do you need to know where I was?"
"I was searching for you."
Drog raised his eyebrow, "What did you need from me?"
"I wanted to invite you to our usual hangout."
Drog showed a confused expression, "I already declined Go, why would you look for me for this?"
"To teach you a lesson of course!" No stated loudly.
Big Sister Ri frowned and turned her head, "What did you say No? You three wanted to teach Drog a lesson?"
Go replied for No, "Of course not, Big Sister Ri."
"I didn't ask you Go, No answer me!"
He lowered his head, "I didn't…"
She narrowed her eyes, "The words clearly left your mouth, didn't they? What did Drog do to you that you would need to teach him a lesson?"
No shook his head as it was bowed down, "He didn't do anything…"
"Then why did you want to teach him a lesson?"
"I am sorry, Big Sister Ri, " he lowered his head.
Big Sister Ri sighed. "You four will only be seeing each other for three more days. What happened between you all? You all used to play together all the time," she said.
Both Ro and No lowered their heads. "Its Drog that disobeyed big brother," they thought.
Drog just closed his eyes to her words. "Her words might have swayed the original Drog, but he and I are two different people, I may have taken over his dream to become the strongest but that's the only thing that connects us. To me, these four are nothing but strangers and one of these strangers dared to look down on me. Before I leave I swear I will show the difference between me and him!"
Go looked at Drog and thought, "Those days will never come back, he sealed his fate when he disobeyed me and now he is just a trash. Before I leave for the sect, I vow to teach him a lesson!"
Ro turned his head towards Drog. "She is right. We shouldn't be trying to teach him a lesson we should be spending the last moments together. He was our friend ever since I can remember," he thought.

No nodded his head, "Yes, Big Sister Ri." He looked at Drog and bowed his head, "I am sorry, Drog. I will not seek trouble with you anymore. I am sorry!"
Drog looked at No and nodded. Big Sister Ri seeing this smiled, "That's the way, you are all friends. So spend these last three days by spending time together."
Go and Drog both harumphed inwardly while Ro and No both nodded their heads.
…
Ten breaths of time passed and Big Sister Ri placed food on the table. It was the same food they ate last time – meat buns.
"Enjoy!" she said with a smile.
"Thank you, Big Sister Ri," they all said one after another.
…
The dinner passed very quickly and the nighttime came. Drog like the night before walked out of the house once the three children were asleep and Big Sister Ri had left the building.
Once he stepped out of the house, he looked up into the sky. "No full moon tonight, it seems," he thought. Drog lowered his eyes and walked out of the village.
Drog didn't walk to the tree he had cultivated the night before. He walked towards the shack that he found earlier that day. After some time Drog reached the shack; he walked through the door and sat down cross-legged in the middle of the room.
"I am curious, Drog. What are you planning to do to that brat Go?" Liu Ri asked before Drog could close his eyes.
"I will challenge him to the fight in front of the elder of the sword sect and then I will break both his legs and arms."
Liu Ri raised an eyebrow, "He had beaten you to near death, yet you are being so lenient with him?"
Drog frowned, "What do you mean by lenient? He won't be able to use either his legs or arms for his entire life. He won't be able to walk his entire life. His life as a cultivator will be over."
Liu Ri laughed, "Over? Breaking his arms and legs will not mark the end of his cultivation life. Arms and legs can be restored with alchemy. You will only delay his cultivation for a bit. Nothing more."
Drog narrowed his eyes, "Limbs can be restored?"
"That's right, it's nothing much. Drog did you forget what one my requests was? I asked you to reconstruct my body."

Drog's eyes flashed with realisation and he nodded, "You are right, you did ask that."
"I will ask you again Drog, what will you do to him in three days time?"
Drog narrowed his eyes, "I will cripple him! I will destroy his dantian. That can't be restored right?"
"Yes it can't be restored but Drog crippling him is a fate worse than death, you know that right? I thought you only wanted to teach him a lesson?"
"There was once an upperclassman that dared to look down on me and I have crippled him. I have already sentenced a person to that kind of life - a life of a cripple. Doing it again will be nothing much," he thought.
"Yes, that will be a lesson he won't forget in his entire lifetime."
Liu Ri smiled inwardly, she was happy to hear such a response from him. "You can cultivate, Drog. I won't disturb you."
"Alright." He closed his eyes and focused on his surroundings. He felt the energy flowing through the air. He grabbed the energy and absorbed it through his skin. He moved the energy through his meridians and into his dantian. He repeated this process all up to midnight; once the midnight hit a shockwave erupted from Drog's body and his eyes opened.
Drog looked down at his body, "What happened?" he thought.
"You have broken through, how do you feel Drog?"
"This is the feeling of breaking through?"
"Yes, you are now rank 1 martial novice and now that you have reached this sub-realm there is one more thing you should know."
"What?"
"Once you break through to the new sub-realm, you will have to build your foundation on that sub-realm, because, if you don't you might suffer a backlash in cultivation."
Drog frowned, "How do I build my foundation?"
"It's not that complicated. If you concentrated on the martial novice realm point you could feel that this single point is made of nine veins – these nine veins represent the nine sub-realms of the martial novice realm. To build your foundation on one of the veins, you simply have to pour your Qi into it."
"How do I know once I have built my foundation on the sub-realm?"
"You will know once you concentrate on it. Go ahead, give it a try."
Drog nodded and closed his eyes. He focused on the martial novice point and once he concentrated on it, he saw the nine veins in a circle. One of the nine veins was glowing in a dim colour. Drog opened his eyes, "I could sense it, but how do I pour my Qi into it?"
"Focus on your dantian and pull out strands of energy from it; send it via meridians to the vein inside the martial novice realm."
"Won't my cultivation decrease if I pull out the strands from my dantian?"
"No, these strands are your Qi generated by the dantian itself. These strands are used when breaking through, learning new skills or even executing the skills. Nothing will happen to your cultivation, once you use them."
Drog nodded in understanding, "Alright, I will give it a shot."
"Go ahead."
Drog breathed out and closed his eyes, he once again concentrated on the vein inside the martial novice realm, he then focused on the dantian inside the dantian he sensed a very thing threat. Drog pulled out this threat and carried it over to the vein inside his martial novice point.
"I did it. Alright, one more!" he thought.
He once again focused on his dantian but upon closer inspection, he found no more Qi threads. Drog opened his eyes. "Master there was only one thread inside my dantian."
"That is to expected after all you are only an F-rank talent," she said.
Drog frowned, "What do I do now?"
"You have to restore the Qi you had used up."
"How?"
"There are a few ways but unfortunately only one of those ways is available to you."
"That is?"
"You will have to wait."
"Wait?"
"Yes, the Qi you used up will recover sooner or later."
"So I can't cultivate and I can't reinforce my martial novice rank 1 vein?"
"That's correct!"

Of Men and Dragons, Book 1
Book 1 is now available on Kindle, or in paperback/hardcover! You can buy it here! Jack crash-landed on a planet where the natives are seven-foot-tall carnivorous cat-lizards currently somewhere between stone and bronze age. The good news is the natives think the ship that crashed into their mountain is a dragon and are steering clear of it. The bad news is they just left one of their own as a sacrifice to appease the beast. No matter what Jack and his AI co-pilot decide, his life just got a lot more complicated... ATTENTION: This is soft sci-fi rather than hard sci-fi, hence why I chose that tag. For those of you unfamiliar with the distinction, here's what Wikipedia had to say. 1. It explores the "soft" sciences, and especially the social sciences (for example, anthropology, sociology, or psychology), rather than engineering or the "hard" sciences (for example, physics, astronomy, or chemistry). 2. It is not scientifically accurate or plausible; the opposite of hard science fiction. Soft science fiction of either type is often more concerned with character and speculative societies, rather than speculative science or engineering. The term first appeared in the late 1970s and is attributed to Australian literary scholar Peter Nicholls.
