《The Legend Of Drog》Chapter 10: Devourer

Drog frowned, "What do I do in these situations when I can't cultivate, strengthen my foundation, breakthrough or even learn martial skills?"
Liu Ri sighed, "Drog, tell me, do you realise the mistake you have made?" She asked without answering Drog's question.
"What mistake?" he asked with a frown.
"You have made a mistake, a mistake that would cost you your life."
Drog continued to frown. "What is she talking about? I did just as she told me. Let's see, I absorbed the energy from the world into my dantian and brokethrough. Then, I transferred the Qi from my dantian into martial novice realm point's first vein to build my foundation… Qi? Is this mistake she spoke of is related to Qi?... She did say that Qi is used for multiple things including martial skills… Now that I think about it, if one uses all his Qi in the dantian then he/she wouldn't be able to use any martial skills whatsoever. This would certainly put one's life in danger and could certainly be called a deadly mistake," he thought.
"You don't know?" she asked after not hearing anything for three breaths of time.
"Are you referring to Qi?" Drog suddenly said.
"Yes, you figured it out?" she asked with surprise.
"Yes, but master, I don't know any martial skills, to begin with. So using all my Qi is the same as not using it."
"That may be so but I just needed you to be aware of it and now that you are, I don't have to worry about you making such a mistake." Liu Ri smiled inwardly, "His mind is amazing, he was able to figure it out without me spelling it out for him."
"Master about my earlier question, what do I do in these situations when I can't cultivate, strengthen my foundation, breakthrough or even learn martial skills?"
"Close your eyes and focus on your surroundings, sense the energies that move around you. Don't touch them and don't try to absorb them, just watch them and try to understand them."
"What benefit will it give me if I do this?"
"You asked me what to do when you couldn't cultivate, learn skills, build your foundation or breakthrough and I gave you an answer."

Drog nodded, "Alright." He took a deep breath and closed his eyes. With his eyes closed, he sensed the world energy around him and thought, "Master said that I should try to both watch and understand the world energy."
Drog focused on the strands of the world energy around him. He didn't focus on one of but focused on all that were in his vicinity and the first one that he focused on showed him the life and death of the strand of world energy. This strand of world energy appeared out of nothing and with time it grew longer and longer, but once it reached a certain point, it started to shorten; it shortened to the point when it disappeared entirely. "So the strands of world energy can die as well?" he thought.
These dying strands of world energy were all around Drog, and they were all the strands of world energy that was around him. Ten more breaths of time passed and Drog already witnessed the death of more than hundred of those strands.
As Drog watched them rise and die, a strand of world energy floated in from the distance. This strand of world energy immediately got his attention as it was different from the rest. He looked at it and thought, "Is it different from the others?"
This strand of world energy didn't grow longer or shorter – it retained its length as it floated through the air. It slowly moved through the air; after thirty breaths of time passed it disappeared into the distance. Once it disappeared, Drog thought, "That strand was different from these ones that keep appearing and disappearing, I wonder how and why?" With it gone he returned his attention back to the strands of energy that appeared and disappeared. When he looked at these, he no longer felt interested by them, he wanted to see more of those that didn't change their shape and form. He wanted to understand why they retained their length.
Three hundred breaths of time passed and Drog saw many more of those strands that retained their length.
"Now that I watched more than a few of these unchanging strands of world energy, they are really boring. They are stale and unchanging and are so dull! Even these strands that appear and disappear are more interesting!" he thought.

Thiry more breaths of time passed and Drog shook his head inwardly, "There is no reason for me to continue watching them. I should return back." But right before he could open his eyes a new strand of energy floated in from the distance. "Another one of those unchanging ones?" he thought.
Drog glanced at it only for a brief moment and at this moment something happened that he never expected would happen, the new strand of world energy devoured the world energy in its path and this devourer grew in size. "A strand of world energy devoured another strand of world energy?" he thought.
This devourer didn't stop after eating one, it started feasting on each and every strand of world energy it came across and as Drog watched it, a smile appeared on his face. "Interesting!" he thought.
The night quickly passed and Drog continued watching this strand of world energy. This devourer didn't leave, rather it moved around him and devoured every strand of world energy that appeared and every unchanging world energy strand that floated in.
A smile appeared on Liu Ri's face, "This damn brat is a genius! He is actually trying to open his soul dantian and he is actually using the devourer as a base!" Her smile widened and thought, "I wonder what kind of shape will his devourer take."
…
Drog continued looking at the devoured, he looked at it for so long that he already forgot how many breaths of time had passed, he looked at the devourer for so much that he forgot what he wanted to do to Go – the only thing on his min was the devourer and nothing else.
The current devourer was no longer a thin strand rather it now had an appearance of a dragon which was twenty meters tall and ten meters wide but was transparent like all the strands of world energy.
At this time there were many little strands floating around but the devourer no longer paid them any mind, he looked down at Drog and issued a loud roar but Drog didn't show any reaction, he simply continued looking at the devourer without moving a muscle. The devourer bit down towards Drog and as he did, the devourer disappeared into thin air and as he did an explosion occurred in the shack that Drog was sitting in.
Drog's eyes snapped opened and he mumbled, "What happened?"
"How do you feel, Drog?"
"Master?" he slowly said.
"Will you make me repeat myself?" she asked.
Drog frowned, "I won't. It just seems like I heard your voice a long time ago"
She laughed lightly, "It was quite a while ago."
Drog frowned, "What do you mean a while? We only talked yesterday."
"No Drog, it wasn't yesterday, it was ten years ago."
Drog narrowed his eyes, "What do you mean ten years ago. I clearly remember that you told me to watch the world energy and to study it…" He lowered his head and memories of the devourer floated up in his head and he thought, "After a while, I had lost the track of time. But could ten years really have passed like that?"
He raised his head, "Did ten years really have passed, just like that?"
"Yes, they have. You only have to inspect your own body."
Drog nodded, he first raised his hand and looked at it, he then turned his eyes and inspected other parts of his own body. "This is really not the body I had before," he thought.
"Master, the last thing I remember is a dragon devouring me, what was that all about?"
Liu Ri raised an eyebrow, "A dragon?" she thought. "It's simple, you have now formed your soul dantian which means you can now cultivate your soul which is referred to as heaven. That's what I would like to say but that's not the case." she shook her head. "To cultivate heaven you need something that is referred to as divine energy and even if you had this divine energy, it would still not be possible because if you tried to absorb even a small part of this energy into your weak martial novice body, then it would destroy you immediately. So before you get any ideas you first have to reach the peak of earth before you cultivate heaven."
Drog frowned, "So I have formed this soul dantian, does it give me anything?"
"Yes, you get something from it."
"And that is?"
