《Dark Chronicles》Ch 11 The mansion

Why is it that this civilisation can make magic bath taps and teleportation stones but they can't make it so that there sewers don't smell? I guess that why would you need to? Who is stupid enough to go lurking around the sewers?
'Take a right here'.
Oh yeah, me and Drake have been walking in total darkness for what I can guess is one hour. So far, I have only been able to navigate by using the walls.
I tried to start a fire but it created a too big of a explosion. I guess my flame magic must ignite all the gas in the air so I had to use the walls.
'Walk 4 more steps then turn left.'
While I was stumbling in the dark, I tried to form a plan in my head about what I would do once I got to this Brenton guy's home.
I would first check every room. Once I know I am completely alone, I search them all.
At first I'll make it look like no one is there but if that doesn't work then, a staged robbery. If needed, a robbery gone wrong but if I still find nothing, then I will try to come up with something from there.
'Keep walking straight for another 20 another minutes then stop.'
Okay then, we must be getting closer but before that happens I want to try experimenting a little...
I activate my [Dragon Mark] and feel the rush of fire mana through my veins. I start to concentrate and flow it into my eyes, it takes a while since there are so many veins but it gets there.
After a few seconds, nothing… But then, the pain my eyeballs feel like they're on fire, being burnt from the inside out.
I try to extract the mana but I can't focus. It continues to burn more and more, getting stronger, more painful every second.
I collapse to me knees and shut my eyes, tears try to form but they just evaporate then finally the pain leaves and I can finally open my eye, but something is different.
Everything… There is a red glow around everything, I see the rats and they are glowing brightly more than everything else.
Damn… I can see in the dark! Is this night vision?
I test it out. I can easily turn it off and on now without any pain. I wonder if I can do this to any part off my body? What effects will it have on the selected body part?
But I will save that for another time, because I have reached my destination. A pocket of light leading to the outside world, the only thing keeping me here is the grate but how do I deal with it without blowing myself up?
'Easy, do the same trick you did to your eyes flow fire mana into it and keep on increasing the amount until it melts. Simple…'
'Thanks Drake, but how did you know what I did to my eyes?'
'I know every time you use my magic and what you use it for.'
Okay… Now, that is just a little creepy but it is his mana I am using so I can't get that upset about it.
I turn off my new night vision, and place my hands on the grate and then start flowing mana into it, I can feel the warmth leaving my body and enter the grate.
It quickly heats up soon turning red from the heat then it starts to melt like ice cream on a hot day.

Once it is all gone, I quickly get out and head towards the nearest dark alleywhere no one sees me then I take out the map.
'So Drake where are we?'
'We are in the alley just across from the target's house.'
I put away the map and have a look. And I have to say: Wow… The house is spectacular.
It is 2 stories high and looks very Victorian, a beautiful garden out the front, with a 3 meter high wall surrounding it and a big metal gate at the front with two tough looking guards out the front.
If this is what a low class noble house looks like, how am going to act when I see a high class one?
I make my way around to the side and activate my [Sword Mark] and leap over the wall and land in the garden, I sneak in through an open window and up in the study.
It is the first place. I search it but I don't find anything interesting, only a few documents about transport of plush toys and other things for kids which is a little weird.
Then, I search the entire house from top to bottom. It takes me around 45 minutes.
No one else lives or works here from my understanding so I search his room. I take all the gold under his bed (25 gold) but I still don't find anything so plan B: fake robbery.
I trash the place as quiet as possible but still nothing.
What am I missing? While I am standing in the middle of the study, looking over his documents hoping to find a clue, I look up and see a painting of a old creepy guy with a bald patch in his grey hair and a long beard but what really creeps me out is his eyes one is brown but the other one is a weird pinkish color.
Is this guy Brenton's dad or something? I stop looking at it and focus on the documents when it hits me. But it can't be that easy, can it?
I walk up to the painting and push the pink eye in. It moves then I hear a clicking sound and the entire painting falls and left in it's place is a wall safe.
I try punching it a few times with my [Sword Mark] active but nothing happens. Then, I try burning and melting it with my [Dragon Mark] but still nothing.
It has to be magical or something to resist my fire but what can I do? I can't smash nor burn it… What do I do?
'Use the [Sword Mark].'
'I tried that but it didn't work.'
'No, don't use the white side of the mark use the red side.'
'No way! Last time, it took over control and killed a lot of magical beasts… Who knows what is will do this time? It could rampage in the city!'
'It won't, I know it sounds strange but if we don't know how to control this power now, then the power will control us in the future.'
'Fine, but when I start to lose control, stop me, okay?'
'Okay, it's a deal.'
I place my [Sword Mark] hand onto the vault.
"Okay, whatever you are. I know so far, I have only been using you for simple things so you lost it or whatever and killed a bunch of magical beasts. I understand that, but I can really use your help and if you do this for me, I promise I will help you in the future, okay? So, we got a deal?"

At first, nothing… I waited five minutes then 10 minutes then 15 minutes but still nothing.
I was wondering if maybe it failed, then the mark started glowing not white like it usually does but red this time. I didn't feel any different, I was still in control.
I looked at the vault I pushed thinking it would break but nope still strong. I waited some more and the mark just got brighter and brighter then stopped.
Nothing happened then the vault door started to shake violently, nothing else. I was touching it and I didn't feel anything then, it started to turn transparent like a ghost more and more it faded away until nothing was left.
The vault door was completely gone, leaving only a open vault for the plunder, I looked down and the mark had already stopped glowing.
"Thank you."
I look inside the safe, there are a few documents, a bag of gold coins which I take and a ledger with all his shipping details.
I look over the documents but it's the exact same document I found in the draw about the pushy toys for the kids. I look it over, nothing out of the ordinary but there is a smell coming from it that I didn't expect: the smell of the [Plan Pour] flower, a special weed that when crushed and turned into a liquid so it that lights up under certain temperatures.
I ignite a flame in my hand and run it over the paper when I am done certain words are highlighted in green.
~We...have....gotten....the.....shipment....of....children.....they.....will.....be....given.....to.....the....buyers....soon.....your....pay..will....be....sent.....to.....you.....soon~
I couldn't believe what I just read this… Clearly, Brenton was a child smuggler but nothing of the women he took.
I collected more documents and gave them the same treatment all revealing different things like how the people he had kidnapped were being transported and who he was selling them to but still no mention of the women…
Where was this bastard keeping them? I stored the documents in one of my satchels then I combed over the house once again, this time every piece of paper I found was put under the flame.
I didn't find any more secret messages but then I had a thought this guy used one classic bad guy trick: vault behind the painting. What about the whole secret passage behind the bookcase?
I ran my hands down the side of each book case not finding a thing in the study. Next, the library…
it was huge thousand of books and hundreds of book cases, I ran my hand down each one till only one was left an old dust covered one that was only filled with the same book.
Okay… Maybe, I should have started here… I ran my hands down the right side then I felt a button and I pushed it *Click* sound happened and the book case split in two, revealing a dark passageway with stairs that led down.
I got you now, you son of a bitch…
I start walking down the stairs. I have to use my night vision because there is absolutely no lighting down here for some reason.
I continue to walk down when I start to smell something… Sulfur, blood and something. I was really hoping I would not find the smell of a man.
I continue and the smell only gets stronger the further I go down. Soon, I start to see light so I turn off my night vision and I reach the ground floor there torches on the walls.
There is also four rooms that are using curtains as doors, I can now tell where the smell is coming: from those rooms.
At first, I was scared to look inside but deep down, I knew that I had to… I had to look this trial in the face, I had to face the evil that is man is face to face. I would not back down, I would do what's asked of me, I walk up to the first room and open the curtain…
What I see almost makes me almost vomit.
A woman in her twenties was naked, covered in burn marks and scars while male fluids lying on top of a wooden bed. She had her face resting on a pillow, she didn't even look my way when I entered.
I walk up to her and noticed she had no chains or anything keeping her to the bed. So why wasn't she leaving then? I looked inside her eyes and I saw why she wasn't leaving…
Because she was dead on the inside, no emotions, no response, nothing… Just breathing.
Dammit!!! Why did this happen? I could only do one thing now…
I pull one of the of the daggers I got from the bandits and drive into her heart quick and painless. I hope she find a better life in the next one… For now, to the next room.
Each room was the same mess. The only difference was the marks he left on his victims.
He liked to torture each woman differently. The only same thing was the rape… Why did he always have to do that? But no matter what, they always ended the same way: with a quick death.
Damn this… Why did this have to happen? I have to stop this… And I know just the way to do it: kill the motherfucker who caused this.
I reached the back of the room and found a black wooden door with a simple handle on it. I melt the lock and push it open.
I start walking down a long hallway, it's well lit up with torches. I get in further when I hear screaming and crying. I pick up my pace with every step I take, I get faster.
Soon, it turns into a run. I steady my breath as much as possible but I still find it hard to breath for some reason then I reach the end of the hall.
And what I see makes me hate to even be a human.
A girl just barely 18, naked, screaming while 5 men with masks are around her in a circle repeatedly raping her.
Most are fat and are wearing fancy jewelry, I can tell what they are nobles. I clench my fist until I feel blood but I can't stop them just yet…
I have to wait for the ringleader or of this would all just for waste, I am so sorry but this world isn't fair so please just hold out a little longer...
I didn't have to wait long, he soon showed up all eyes on him. He wore a sparkling emerald coat with nothing underneath and a fox mask on but I could tell it was him by the way he walked like he owned the place… He did.
He went and sat away from the crime, far at the back of the room on a brown couch and just watched.
That sick bastard… I'm going to enjoy killing you but first, I to rescue the girl.
First, I activated my [Sword Mark] then I drew my sword and got to work.
I cut the head off the man raping the girl then I plunged my sword into the next man's gut and spilled all his bowels on the floor
The other three tried running but I cut their feet off before they got too far away then I went to each one and chopped them to pieces.
They all begged… They offered money, one even threatened me so I killed him a little slower than the others.
I looked over at Bretton, he was scared stiff on the couch huddled up in a ball. I walk over to the girl who just looked scared and was trying to cover herself up.
I took off my cloak and placed it near her. Now, time for the real fun I am going to enjoy what comes next.
I walk up to the scum named Brentton. he was still scared and balled up on the couch. He stops crying and looks up at me, I see fear all through his eyes then he starts screaming like a madman.
"Let me go! I have money! Lots and lots, Please!! I will give you anything!!!"
"My friends will find you… I swear they will hunt you down and kill you, I swear it!!!"
There are a mix of words coming from his mouth like threats and pleads but I didn't listen to either of them.
I just plunged my sword into his right shoulder, pinning him to the couch. Another scream left his mouth but I was only starting.
First, I used one of my daggers and pinned his left shoulder then I sliced off each one of his fingers very slowly with each cut he howled even louder.
I was scared he might die from blood loss, ending our fun so I cauterized each wound. He screamed louder and louder each time, sounding more like an animal.
Once I was done with his hands, I started on his toes and then when I had reached the second foot, he started to smell of piss and shit, but I continued my work with a happy smile.
Once I had cut off all his appendages, all that was left is a bloody body full of burns and blood.
All he had left was a blank expression and one last thing I needed to take care of his greatest weapon.
I pull out one of my daggers from inside his eye and start hacking away until nothing is left.
This time, I don't cauterize the wound. I let him bleed out from that last wound. I pull my weapons out of his dying body and head back to the girl who is now using my cloak as clothing.
I get down to her level and try to talk in such away that she doesn't get scared.
"Don't worry, I can get you out of here and back to Mama…"

Awakening an ancient civilization from their past may be their only hope now. A spiraling doom awaits the world of Isulia. **************** I put the gore warning not because my book is overly gory (It's not constantly blood and guts). However, there are several moments that are extremely violent. I've always loved shows/movies such as, (The Expanse, The Boys, Banshee, Kingdom of heaven, Vikings, Attack on Titan, Baccano, etc.) I am descriptive of the scenes with violence. So be warned :) I've worked long and hard and have finally finished my third draft. Still needs work but everything storywise is complete. There are still a few things I need to add and tweak. Grammatical errors and flushing out the characters and dialogue still needs work. If you see any errors or plot holes, please feel free to point them out. It helps me improve upon the story. Those in this dungeon must kill monsters to survive; maybe even each other. Join Ely as he struggles to survive a ruthless environment. What replaces his rest is untold trauma. What seems like an innocent game trope turns into a nightmare. This is a story of tragedy and the path to ultimate power. All in the hopes of an uncertain survival. _________ This fiction has NOT been abandoned. I made a haughty promise earlier to not worry because I'll continue this series, and with things lately, I've only proved myself a liar. Further promises dwindled, and I've lost trust. So many things have been going on recently that I've been booked. I will refrain from making any future guarantees or promises as my busy schedule will stay with me for a long long while. Time for me to actually spend on writing and revising won't appear until at the least November 19. I won't say expect that's when I'll restart, but you can expect expecting it to maybe happen. That's really shallow. But with everything going on, I've let my small reading base down. I apologize. I still stick by my statement though that I won't abandon this project. I plan to stick it to the end, no matter the delay. Most importantly, thank you everyone; readers who both like and dislike my work. I appreciate your time spent on my dumb imagination. Stay toasty my readers in this winter season. Cheers. UPDATE: We're back on track. Thank you for your patience. Any future readers, heyo! Glad you're here. UPDATE 2: So far it's been 21 days since I last uploaded a chapter. The best thing done for any fiction, no matter how good it is, is that it continues, and I have a bad history with that. 1 fiction on hiatus and already more delays with less than 20 chapters in this fiction. I've been very preoccupied with adding more things to do in my life rather than actually committing to any particular thing. That applies primarily to this. I cannot abandon this, as busy as my future looks and will look as I get busier and busier. Someday, I hope, I will be able to sit down and just write. just. write. But for now, I ask for patience. I suppose I'm glad this fiction hasn't picked up so that I don't disappoint too many people if any really. But I need to commit and it's going to happen sometime and sometime soon. No more flowery words. I'll see you later. UPDATE 3: It's very evident I won't be able to pick up this story for a while. With AP Testing, competitions, and other things I am busier than ever. But I must complete this fiction. I have too. Until next time. UPDATE 4: It is now the summer. I owe everyone an apology. Chances are, nobody's around to see this, and that is okay. I only blame myself for this sort of brokenness of a fiction, not that it is actually that bad but I am just exaggerating it for dramatic effect. But what's not exaggerated is the severity of my broken promise. I apologize for my naive claims about finishing a novel that I couldn't finish and that I didn't have the discipline to finish. Nor the skills, really, I was and am still an immature writer. What is to place now? I want to make it clear I understand this is my fault. I will man up to this. And I will accept any criticism. I understand I messed up. Reading Stephen King's On Writing made it clear to me that I need to do two things:Read lots. And write lots.I have done neither. If I don't have the time to read often, how do I expect to write? I need to become more experienced. I need to become a serious writer. So if I want to dream of continuing, I need to at least fulfill both requirements. I enjoy writing. I haven't written seriously outside of school in a while. I planned to write this summer and finish this. I made a lot of promises that I didn't keep.So there's that. I won't enact any self-pity, or be foolishly obsessed. What I did was wrong, and I must deal with it. I let down readers. And I apologize.I hope I can find forgiveness. This is a writer's sin.I won't promise I'll finish this. I intend to finish this, at some point, because writing is fun and I want to write. But how things are don't reflect that. Maybe I'll finish this at some point. Maybe I won't. I won't be naive to make that promise.I thank everyone who has read this if this is the end. If not, and hopefully not, I thank everyone who is to read future chapters. I thank everyone who allowed me to live in the miniscule little dream of mine as I passed my days. I thank everyone who cares enough to read this. Until next time, peace everyone. Thank you. You are all great readers and great people. I wish everyone the best in whatever reading/writing endeavors follow you henceforth.

Reincarnated as a Warlock with zero skill
My previous life was just as boring as yours. I was a marketing manager for a flooring company. The biggest challenge? Would the latest colour be called "Grey Oak" or "Oak Grey". Then, tragedy. I was struck down in the prime of my life by a negligent delivery driver and a pallet of laminate flooring - which is significantly heavier than you think. So there I was, smeared on the floor, absorbed in my own self pity. Where would I go? Heaven? Hell. Did I care? Apparently that was not what fate had in store for me. Reborn in a world of dragons and fantasy, I became a Warlock. A pretty darn important one too. The problem, I had little to no affinity to magic and I spent most of my time doing my best to avoid danger. Danger however, would not avoid me. So, with my new life as an amazing Warlock you'd think it would be easy street right? Wrong. Forces gather to move against the Kingdom I am sworn to protect and, whilst my inward allegiance is to whomever is the victor, outwardly I must lead the resistance against the invaders. With my skilled companions Asha - a mage that can actually do magic and Torg - a swordsman sworn to protect me, I can only hope that they distract the enemy long enough for me to run away.
