Ben was relaxedly lying next to his construct on the surface of the moon, they were discussing what kind of race would be the next one to gain sapience. Ben had put his money on humans, as that would be the most common race to evolve from their primal form but his construct was having none of it. He had put his money on the dwarves, he had the knowledge about dwarves from Ben and he was instantly in love with the idea of buff guys mining out a mountain and drinking themselves drunk afterwards. 1
Even godlike beings such as Ben and his construct had favourites, Ben’s were the undead. Ever since he had read a story about where a weak little skeleton evolved into a death god he had been hooked on the undead hype. If undead ever came into existence Ben would make sure to add something extra, his little gift as a mighty being, it wasn’t as if anyone was able to complain to him about it.
Their conversation, though interesting, was interrupted when they felt a new presence nearby. Both beings looked at each other in confusement and interest as they had never really felt anything or anyone else besides themselves.
It was the construct who spoke first after they felt the new presence;”So, do you want to check it out?”.
“No, I just found the perfect position to lie in and I am not about to move, it can wait for a few days.” Ben’s construct nodding completely understanding of what Ben felt, they had after the many years of connecting with each other started to understand each other better, at first their relation was stiff but after that one card game they learned much about each other. Ben’s construct had Ben’s memories but it wasn’t as if just because he had his memories he could perfectly understand Ben.

So Ben and his construct lied on the surface of the moon for the next few days.
…
Ben and his construct moved towards where they had felt the presence fleeing to, and much to neither of the two beings' surprise what they saw was the giant tree that had sprung out of nowhere many years back. The existence of this tree hadn’t been forgotten by either but they couldn’t really care about it, to them it was just a piece of bark until a few days ago.
Of course both of them knew that eventually this tree would gain sentience but they wouldn’t know when, well more likely didn’t want to know when, and with its sudden presence showing shortly before their thoughts were confirmed.
Ben had known for a long time about the sentient tree-people, but he hadn’t put two and two together to come to the conclusion that it stemmed from the big tree. It was pretty obvious and cliche so he should have been able to see it but he didn’t, his card game was more important after all.
The two beings were now floating just in front of where they could precisely feel the presence, it was about half way up the tree from their estimate. When they had entered the atmosphere they knew immediately that whatever was sentient about the tree knew that they were coming, and they could feel its nervousness.

[??? pov]
Mere words cannot describe how terrifying the situation I am currently in, the two beings whom I had previously fled from floated in front of me. Not even standing, just floating there, ignoring everything I had seen in my life these two beings casually shattered everything I thought I knew. I knew these beings were powerful, extremely so, also why I had fled as soon as I could, but this was just ridiculous.

I could feel the weaker of the two prodding around my physical body, which wasn’t so much of a problem as what the second stronger being was doing. I could feel his eyes on me, my spiritual me. I had tried relocation down my trunk but it was as if I was frozen in place, unable to move like I wasn’t allowed to do so.
“So, are you gonna talk or not?” The ethereal voice of the weaker being spoke out to me, I didn’t hear it as much as I was able to feel it. Its voice travelled through my whole being, reverberating through my whole body.
“F-forgive me, I was lost in thought when I sensed you two.” I said as respectfully as I could, unable to stop me from faulting over my words. I have no experience with talking to people who could kill me with a single thought, I only ever talked to myself and my children.
The weaker of the two looked at his companion with an amused expression on his face. “This is really awkward isn’t it?” “I mean, you did sound a bit too commanding and used your stupid voice, I mean you are by all means allowed to do so but let us not scare the poor tree too much.”
It was all a game to these two beings wasn’t it? From the way they talked to me and how they saw her as nothing more than a mere tree, it infuriated her. She knew she should keep her emotions in check in case one of them would lash out and kill her but she didn’t.
“Don’t talk about me as if I am just a mere object! You come here, uninvited whilst flaunting that absurd amount of power everywhere acting as if you own the place! Don’t you know how scared I am!”
It took me a few seconds to regain my metaphorical breath and realise what I had done. I was about to apologize until I saw their confused expression on their faces…

“I think we broke her?” “Well I certainly hope we didn’t, we didn’t even do anything.”
“I guess we didn’t, Ben how about you let me explain what we’re doing here, I am much better for doing so anyway.”
“Sure do your thing, it isn’t as if I wanted to do it anyway.” Ben and his construct saw themselves as equals so there wasn’t really a reason for Ben to argue with him about it, but Ben was a bit annoyed that he knew exactly why it would be better if his construct had this conversation instead of him. Ben had the habit of losing time to his own thoughts which wasn’t very useful for conversation.

1 I made a mistake about sapience and sentience, I will obviously correct the mistake when I ultimately decide to rewrite the bad chapters. For now though, I want this to be written proof of my writing progress unless there of course is such a flaw that will ruin the story in my opinion. (I also count misunderstanding the meaning of a word as bad writing.)
