《Mine to Protect (Completed)》Chapter 23

Knox’s POV
After spending the day with Sophia, Rafe was clawing to get out. The scent of her arousal filled my office all afternoon, driving us both insane. Damn she smelled so good, like pure warm honey. I couldn’t wait to get my taste of her.
It was hell controlling myself from just slamming her down on the desk and claiming her, but with the kids running in and out of the office, along with pack members, I knew that it wasn’t the proper time.
When I finally had her under me, a few minutes wouldn’t be enough so I needed to wait.
Sophia was tucking the kids in as I was on my nightly patrol, checking in with the guards. Everything was secured as I made my way back to the house.
As I shifted and dressed I made my way inside. Two of Vlad’s vampires waited for me.
Bowing that waited for me to reach them. “Alpha, we have two men doing patrols with your men and all seems quite. We do not sense anyone in the areas around your boarders.”
We spent a few minutes brief each other and forming more plans for the next day. Vlad’s men were in constant contact with him and they passed along any information he had discovered. He reached out to the other Alpha and scheduled a meeting for the following week to discuss options.
When we finished our updates I bid them goodnight and turned to head up the stairs.
“Um Alpha, we seem to have another problem…”
Turning back around I gestured for them to continue.
“You see…well um Alpha, with everything happening so fast we seemed to overlook one very important factor. We need to eat.”
Well shit. Of course they need to eat. Vampires didn’t just live off of blood, but it was a required part of their diet. Most mated Vampires were able to sustain their thirst to only feeding off of each other, but unmated vampires needed to find someone to feed off of. I asked if they could summons the other two vampires to join us briefly.

From what Vlad told me, vampires only need small amounts of blood every couple of days. Just like werewolves, they were highly misrepresented as blood suckers. It was very difficult for a vampire to drain a food source, as that was way too much blood for them to consume at once.
Like wolves, there were different bites a vampire could give; one to feed, one to kill and one to turn. Nowadays many vampires just did the one night stand thing by cruising bars. Their prey woke up completely satisfied, not remembering the source of the hickey on their neck.
Some women said vampires made the best lovers. As the bite, much like my kind, triggered the most powerful orgasm ever. That was usually the only part they remember.
Sally, Mary, Jeanette, and Chelsey can you please come to the main hallway.
Yes Alpha
These women had all one thing in common. They had lost their mates over a year ago and were left with small children to raise alone. They lived their lives only for their kids, but other than that they kept closed off. I felt like a pimp, but I knew they needed to have physical contact again and this was a win-win for both parties. Maybe a couple nights of great sex can help them live again.
The women entered and the vampire on my left charged straight over to Sally, picking up her small frame and burying his nose into her neck. MINE
Sally laughed as tears fell down. She tightened her hold on the vampires as he placed kisses up her neck. Well that solves one problem.
The three other women walked around the couple giving them some privacy.
“Ladies, thank you for coming. I understand it is late but I need some assistance from you. We currently have 4 vampires staying with us for a while and they are in need of a companion so that they may feed. As you can see, one vampire has been spoken for, but I have three others that will need our help.”

As explained the situation to the women, the other two vampires joined us. This time Chelsey was scooped up against the chest of a vampire claiming her.
It seems I might be on to something here. Although it is rare for shifters to find a true second mate, it seems that we are looking in the wrong place. Unlike the stories, werewolves and vampires do get along and are not mortal enemies. You will always have enemies, but that is not based on just species, but the person itself. Mates between the species does happen, just not often as most would think.
The two remaining vampires smiled, happy for their brothers. Mates were a cherished gift, not matter what you were.
Jeanette and Mary both agreed to assist the men, but had some questions. Leaving the women to their discussions I headed upstairs to my mate. It made me happy that two of my widows have now found happiness again. I needed to remember to call Vlad tomorrow as I had a feeling that he would be losing two guards permanently since both women had small children.
Damn it appears I am good at this matchmaker stuff. I needed to get with Vlad to organize a date night for all of our mateless members. Who knows we might find more pairs…I could really be on to something as it pained me to see so many lives lost to the pain of losing your mate. I remember the feeling and I wish that on no one, friend or enemy.
Speaking of my mate I hope she didn’t fall asleep yet.
As I opened the door to my bedroom, the site before me stopped me in my tracks…

Homecoming | A Chronicles of Ascension Story
When Jethen was captured by slavers, his childhood was torn from him and left shattered half a world away. When he finds himself back home decades later, by methods he does not fully understand, he finds that the life he has lived has changed him far more than he knew. In a home he no longer knows. Places and people at the same time familiar and foreign, he must decide - stay and help with his parent's business, or return to the land that remade him and the family he made there. --------- Homecoming started as just a short story to break an episode of writers block. It has since morphed well beyond that into a novel in it's own right, and may well end up with a sequel. The writing of Homecoming became a bit of a self induced challenge to improve my initial, first brush, writing quality. Each chapter was written raw, given a once over read and edit, and then posted. In this way I am forcing myself to write better from the start. I do hope you enjoy the story and will leave a comment or review, and if you see an issue, feel free to let me know as well. I know it is not nearly perfect, and it will get a full and proper edit once I am done. Never hurts to fix things along the way though. As an additional note. The story has undergone a structural rework and has been reposted in an updated structure and sequence of chapters. If you have read this story already, I invite you to do so again in this new structure.
