"It's amazing when you find someone who appreciates you for everything someone else took for granted."
-Maddie-
"Uh, what?" I ask, staring at the man standing in front of me. "You want to dance with me?" I add, as I furrow my eyebrows in genuine confusion. I look around, checking if there was someone else he was talking to. "Yes." He chuckles. I stare at him for a while.
"No thank you." I say, bowing my head. "I don't dance."
I sat down and took a cup of fruit punch. Then, the same man sat beside me. "What are you doing?" He asks, staring at me. "Drinking fruit punch. Want one?" I offer, handing him a glass. He smiles and takes it.
"What's your name?" He asks. "Mine's Tyler." He holds out a hand for me to shake. I stare at his hand for a long time, making him quite uncomfortable.
"I didn't ask..." I mutter, shifting my gaze from his hands to him. His hair looks very floofy. I wanna pat it. I thought to myself as I stare at his hair which was combed properly to the side.
Awkward silence fills the air between us. I was looking at his hair and he was staring at me.
Suddenly, he laughs. "You're cute." He smiles, patting my head. "Hey! Stop it." I say, swatting his hand off my head. I huff silently as I smooth down my hair. "Okay then." He chuckles, showing his dimples. I flashed him a small smile. "My name is Madilyn."
We chatted a bit, laughing occasionally. Tyler would make silly jokes and puns, which were really horrible but really funny. It was shocking how I could make friends so fast.

Maybe it wasn't so bad coming here after all. I thought to myself.
Soon, it was time for the announcement. "May I have your attention please?" Her shrill voice echoed across the room. I shifted my attention at the two standing on stage. Amy was smirking at me as she clings unto Ren's arm.
"I would be announcing something very important." She giggles, batting her eyelashes at Ren. My gaze shifts to Ren. For some strange reason,
my heart feels numb, I don't feel that much pain anymore.
"C'mon. Tell them Ren." She whines, pouting. Does this woman have no shame? She sways her hips as she stomps her feet. How is Ren not annoyed or bothered with her attitude.
I choke in disgust but quickly covered it up by coughing. I can see Tyler holding in his laughter. We did a subtle high five as we burst into a fit of soft laughter. "We are engaged." Ren smiles. The people around us began to cheer and clap.
I see my friends looking at me. I face them and gave them a thumbs up, signaling I was alright. This time, it was the truth.
'Who's that?' Leah mouths to me, gesturing to Tyler. 'I will fill you in later, okay?' I mouth back to her. She smiles brightly at me and faces back.
"Our second announcement is about our wedding." Amy says, looking at me. I just clapped as I stare at her. She rolls her eyes but quickly covers that up. I smile knowing I've won.
"It will be in two weeks." She adds. "I hope you all can attend!" The crowd of people cheer at the announcement and some girls snapped multiple pictures. They kept chanting 'ship' as they squealed in excitement.

"Hey, Maddie." Tyler says, winking at me. I roll my eyes as I laugh. "What?"
"I forgot to mention something to you. I am writing a book." He says, staring at me. "Oh really now?" I smile.
"Yeah, it's a phone book and it's missing your number." He says, shooting finger guns at me. "You want to get my number?" I ask, quirking an eyebrow.
"Dang, that caught me off guard." He mumbles, rubbing the back of his neck. I laugh. "Sure, here." I hand him my phone.
He blinks in surprise but takes my phone anyway. We both exchanged numbers.
"Call me." He winks at me as he waves his phone next to his ear. I laugh as I wave him goodbye.
When I got out, my friends began to question me. "Who is he?" "Is he single?"
"He's Tyler and I don't know." I smile. I felt my heart skip a beat as I mention his name.
"Is he your new friend?" Leah asks, wiggling her eyebrows. "Or something else?" "He is my new friend of course." I laugh.
I got home with a happy feeling. It was nice knowing I've gained a new friend.
