A couple weeks later
Chapter 44:
Looking down at my hand, I flipped it over about a good three more times before his hand flashed over mine, securing his hand around mine. "How many times are you going to look at it?" He asked before bringing my hand up to kiss it.
"It just doesn't feel real." I shrugged before looking at the passing cars. "And we are really about to do this?"
"Getting married or going to check on our unborn child?" We were currently in the car, driving to the doctors office to check on our baby for the first time.
"Both."
"Well then yes." He turned into the hospital, pulling into a parking spot. "Don't overthink it."
"How can I not? I have a baby in the oven and then I'm marrying you- this just feels surreal."
"It does, doesn't it?" He agreed with me, before we both stepped out of the car.
"Let's go hear the heartbeat." He was excited and I laughed.
"We already heard it Landon."
"And I want to hear it again, at least we'll know he or she is healthy."
"That's true." We arrived in the office and as if she knew we were coming Doctor Rose walked out, removing some gloves.
"Oh great! It's good that you guys are on time." She rejoiced. "Right this way." Hand and hand she escorted us to a room. "Sit right here for me dear." And I followed her directions.
"How are you feeling?" She asked while she made quick work to wash her hands before walking over to me. "May I?" Lifting up my shirt, she palmed my belly. "This baby sure is going fast." She laughed, seeing the size of my belly. "You're almost going into your second trimester."

"What does that consist of?" I asked, I made a note in my head to look these things up on my own.
"The baby will be able to hear and swallow and if you feel the baby moving for the first time don't be startled okay? And stay away from eating too much Folic Acid in your food okay? The good news is, you can eat more." Too late for that. "But the symptoms will increase, you might experience dizziness, cramps, skin changes- I'll make a list for you. Now have you experienced anymore morning sickness?"
"No, I've felt fine."
"Good." Once she finished her examination- applying gloves- she pulled the machine over that I became familiar with. "Mr Hale, can you do me a favor and cut of the light?"
I had forgotten he was in the room until he did what he was instructed and a dim light came over us. "You know it's cold so I don't have to inform you." She placed the gel on my stomach before getting the wand spreading it across my belly.
Even after being in the office for my third time now it still felt like ice against my skin. "Alright lets get the show started." Mrs Rose began typing away with one hand before the screen popped, revealing our baby.
That's not what made me tear up though, it was my baby's heartbeat. "It's so loud." I whispered, hearing it consume most of the room. "It was never this loud like before."
"It means he or she is healthy." Mrs Rose agreed with me. "That's the head right there." She pointed. "That might be a arm right there." She joked and I laughed seeing the baby stirring around.
"Do you know the gender yet?"

"Not yet like I said you're going into your second trimester so the baby is still developing."
"Okay." I couldn't take my eyes from the screen. "Landon do you see?-" I turned to see him in the corner of the room with his fist to his mouth and he looked to be crying.
"Oh Landon." I reached my hand out to him. "Come here." I saw him lean off of the wall before walking over and taking my hand.
"He or she is healthy." Mrs Rose confirmed for us. "Keep doing what you're doing and everything should be a easy sail from here." She wiped off my stomach for me before she went to turn on the light. "I'll be right back with your list and more information regarding the second trimester."
"Thank you doc." And with a curt nod and smile she left the room. "How are you feeling?" I asked Landon, pushing my shirt down to cover my stomach.
"It gets me every time, it was louder this time then the first time."
"I guess the baby didn't want to be known." I agreed before palming my stomach. "You can hear me now?"
"We're going to have to be careful of what we say now."
"That's right, but that's mostly you."
"I've been working on it." He leant down to kiss my belly. "You be a good girl for mommy okay? No cramps or anything."
"Landon." He wouldn't let that go. "You're going to feel bad if it's a boy in there."
"Sorry." He mumbled to the baby. "But I know you're a girl, you have to be. I bet a lot of money on you so please do daddy a solid."
"That's not what she would want to hear." I laughed at how he was having a full conversation with my stomach.
"Oh and I love you." He kissed my belly. "So much."
I stuck my bottom lip out on how affectionate he was being.
"That's sweet." I sat up. "Now what about mommy?"
"I love her too." He kissed the tip of my nose before he kissed my lips softly. "Very much."
My heart did a flip before the door opened again to reveal Dr Rose again. "Okay here you guys are." She handed us three sheets of paper. "I will see you in a couple weeks to make sure everything is still running smoothly, I have my next patient so I have to go but see you soon okay?"
"Okay thanks doc." She nodded before she left the room. Another lady walked in with a set of gloves on, cleaning the supplies that she had used on me.
Walking out, my eyes scanned over the papers. "Wow this is a lot for just a baby."
"The bills are too."
"We need to go shopping soon, especially a car seat."
"Yes ma'am."
"Don't start that." I wrinkled my nose. "I'm 23 not your mom."
"But you're somebody's mom." He hinted before wrapping his arm around my shoulder.
"You know we have to tell our family soon about this engagement, they won't stop calling me."
"We can tomorrow." We had been low key about our engagement because we wanted to enjoy it first and we have.
"Alright, now can we go to the Waffle House? I'm starving."
"Sure mama." He joked and before I could hit him in the arm, he darted off to the car.
"Jerk!" I yelled after him.
