《My Best Friend's Brother》So many "Im Sorry"s

My throat went dry as I watched Liam form fists.
Sarah's confidence slowly died, "I'm sorry, but I really like him."
"No, you don't."
She slowly sat down on the couch, Liam stepped towards her but I grabbed his arm.
"Give her a minute, please. Let's just go grab some breakfast, we can bring her something back."
He looked at Sarah over his shoulder, but agreed.
The ride to Waffle House was almost silent, but he still held my hand.
He found a parking spot close to the road and stared at the passing cars, "How can she be so stupid?"
I shake my head, "She likes him."
He drop tightened on my hand, "She can't like him, Em. He is going to get her killed."
I roll my head in a circle trying to approach this carefully, "Liam, she has to make her own decisions.. right or wrong. She is going to do what she wants when she wants to do it, but she won't be as sneaky if you aren't breathing down her neck trying to control her."
He bit his lip, "I guess you're right."
I smile, "What do you mean? I am always right."
He playfully punched my arm, "You are something, you know it?"
My phone buzzed under my leg and when I looked at my screen I was shocked.
"Who is it?"
I turn my phone to Liam, and his jaw tensed, "Let me answer it."
I pull the phone to my chest, "I can handle it."
I click the button on my screen, "Hello?"
"We need to talk, like now."
My voice cracked, "So let's talk."
"In person."
Liam shook his head clearly giving his opinion, but I ignored him, "When and where?"

"An hour, at the park in West Heights. Alone."
Liam was now in front of my face shaking his head.
"Okay."
The phone line ended and Liam punches the steering wheel, "What the hell are you thinking?"
"He may know something, Liam."
"You aren't going alone, I am going with you."
I take his hand in mine and look into his eyes, "Liam, I can do this."
His breathing picked up, "I don't want you to."
I assured him again, "I can do this."
He went into Waffle House to grab our order and left me in the Jeep alone.
I call Sarah,
"Hey."
"Hey. Is he still mad?"
I sigh, "A little, but more so at me now."
"Why? What's up?"
"I will tell you later, how are you feeling?"
"Hungry."
I laugh, "We are grabbing the food now."
"Good, can you please just talk to him and get him on my side."
I sat for a moment, "I will try, but he has his reasons."
I saw him approaching with the food, "We will be back in just a little bit."
And I hung up.
He sat the food in the back seat, "Who was that?"
"Sarah."
He let a sigh out again, "What did she want?"
I put my hand on his leg as he sat in the drivers seat, "I called her to check on her. She is pretty upset."
"Yeah well so am I, maybe we can start a club."
My patience was starting to wear thin at his attitude, but I kept my mouth shut. We drive past a gas station heading home, and happen to spot Heath's car parked at one of the pumps.

Liam slams on the breaks and our food falls to the floorboard, "God, Liam!"
He whipped the vehicle into the gas station parking lot, and before it was in park he was jumping out of the car.
"LIAM, NO!"
Within a few strides, he had his hands around Heath Dawson's throat. I jump out of the passenger side screaming at him to stop.
One of Heath's brothers also jumped out of their car, "Let go of him."
Liam was pissed, "Or what?"
Heath's brother grabbed me from behind and wrapped his arm around my neck, I try to scream but his hand slapped across my mouth.
Liam darted his eyes back and forth from me to Heath. He squeezed his hands as hard as he could and Heath's face turned blue. The brother tightened his grip around my neck and I tried to kick my legs.
Liam let Heath drop to the ground and was now standing in front of me and the brother.
He had his hand in a fist ready to swing, but the brother let me go before Liam swung. I jumped to Liam and wrapped my arms around him trying to keep from crying.
"I'm sorry." He whispered and wrapped his arms back around me.
Heath and his brother drove off in his car, leaving us in the parking lot.
"Let's go."
We all sat in silence eating our food that was messed up from flying through the car.
"Did something happen?"
Liam quickly answered, "No."
I met eyes with Sarah but quickly looked back down at my food.
"Something definitely happened."
"No." Liam answered quickly again.
"Fine, but I will find out."
He rolled his eyes, "I am sure you will Sarah, you don't know how to mind your own damn business."
I put my hand on his arm, "Liam."
He pulled away and stabbed his waffle with his fork before leaving the table.
"Is everything okay?"
I looked at Sarah, "No, but don't push him."
She slowly nodded and I realized the time.
"Shit, I have to go."
"Where?"
I grabbed my jacket, "I can't say, but tell Liam I left."
She nodded, "I will."
