《The Boy with the Beautiful Name》The Watcher

Sara could now see part of the back of Bentley's school sports jacket. He'd flung his tie over his shoulder. Since his tie was a light yellow, it stood out brightly against his dark blue jacket. She could almost count his breaths as the tie went up slowly when he inhaled, and down slowly when he exhaled.

She thought back to the party the previous weekend. Why had he been so nice to her? Why did he insist on letting her stay the night at his house? Clearly Ella had not spent the night yet. Sara would have heard about it from Ella's gossipy crew of loyal wannabe followers. And she could almost guarantee Ella would want to brag about it to her, too, if it happened -- Ella still insisted that she and Sara were friends.

Sara had even started to have lunch occasionally with Trish and Ella -- at the encouragement of Erin and Pam. But always, to Sara's disappointment, Bentley had never been present.

Erin had tried to get Sara to tell her everything that happened Saturday night. But Sara only gave Erin and Pam minor details. Of course Pam was extremely shocked to hear that Sara had stayed the night. But when Sara told them that nothing had happened, and that Bentley was almost rude to her when she'd left, they decided it was nothing to cheer about.

And Erin made sure Trevor didn't find out about Sara's stay either. Erin insisted she 'burned away all of Trevor's extraneous thoughts that night.' To which Pam and Sara both winced and insisted Erin had crossed the line of TMI -- too much information.

But Sara couldn't get those winks from him out of her mind. She tried hard to remember every detail from Saturday night, but the whiskey had taken a lot of her memory away. All she really had to go on was that something had happened by the bonfire...though she recalled she'd stomped away from him angrily when he'd insulted her. And she remembered making out with that Kurt boy in the hot tub. But after that, most of the little details of how she got from the hot tub to that unbelievably amazing bedroom were a bit fuzzy.

She wondered a lot about his androids, too. Why would he want to hide them? Erna and the Cleaning Robot, C.R., seemed so cool. And the fact that he had self-driving supercars! If she had had technology like that, she would want to show them off to everyone. Especially the cars. Who wouldn't want a car that knows exactly where it's going?

Bentley cleared his throat and glanced at his blinking watch. He shut his book and tossed it across the table. Then he did his amazing stretch, where he pulled his arms high above his head. She could practically see the muscles working like a well-oiled machine under his jacket. She hated to admit that she'd memorized his back muscles while he'd walked around half-naked in front of her in his kitchen.

Come on, Sara, CONCENTRATE! she thought. As she tried to focus back on her math book, it suddenly dawned on her that maybe Bentley didn't tell Ella that Sara had stayed the night. She sat up straighter in her chair. There's no way he would've told her, Sara now realized. If SHE had been Ella, she would have been furious to know another girl had slept IN A BED at Bentley's house.

Sara cautiously leaned back in her chair again to see around the cubicle.

Bentley was in the middle of jotting down another note in his notebook. She could hear the soft scribbles of his pen in the otherwise quiet area.

Without warning, he turned his head -- and saw her.
