《The Boy with the Beautiful Name》Graphs & Laughs

Sara couldn't find Bentley. All week he'd been in her vicinity. It was as if he'd been trying to send her a subtle message. That he was watching her whether she could see him or not.

Well, he was definitely not around today. And she'd even worn the outfit he'd picked out for her.

Feeling tragically disappointed by third period, she shuffled unwillingly to AP Calculus.

A quick look at the clock on the wall showed that she was almost late. And you did NOT want to be late to Dr. Frost's class.

Sara had luckily never known what the punishment would be for tardiness as pretty much all the AP students were on time.

As she slumped down in her seat, Trevor poked her with his pencil.

"Can you feel the heat?" he asked.

Sara spun sideways in her chair. "Pardon?"

He rolled his eyes as if his statement should have been clear. "Can you feel the heat...of MIAMI? I can. It's almost here!" He started to drum his knuckles on his desk as he usually did.

"Miami, right. Yeah, who wouldn't be excited? Actually, where are we even meeting to fly there?" Sara asked.

Trevor looked at her incredulously. "Are you for real? The itinerary was sent out awhile ago."

Sara frowned. "I didn't get it."

Trevor rolled the pencil up and down his nose. "You know...Ella was in charge of sending out the itinerary."

Why did that not surprise her? Ella had probably been mad at her at the time.

"Oh well. You must've fallen off," Trevor said. "Here, let me forward it to you." He thumbed through his phone until he found the message he was looking for. "Okay, just sent," he said.

Sara heard her phone beep.

Dr. Frost was talking with a student by her desk.

Sara reasoned she still had time for distractions.

She pulled her phone from her bag and skimmed the email. "Wait, we're meeting at Private Club Airport? I thought we were taking a commercial flight out of Newark or JFK?"

Trevor shook his head. "Bentley's plane is at the club airport. In fact, he's pretty much covered the whole trip for everyone. I'm just in charge of getting us all into my uncle's concert. It's gonna be SLAMMIN' JAMMIN', Sara Sweet," Trevor said. He popped her on the head with his pencil.

She was so deep in thought, she barely felt the hit. She knew she couldn't let Bentley pay for her. No matter how rich he was, she wouldn't accept it. She would pay for her share.

Dr. Frost started her lecture.

Sara had gotten sort of tired of functions. It seemed functions never ended in Calculus. Or maybe Dr. Frost just really loved to create graphs on graphing calculators.

"All right, everyone," Dr. Frost said. "Today we're going to try something a little different."

She wrote out a series of six different equations.

"Please solve these. The first person to tell me the correct answer will receive a special prize." She rummaged through a leather bag on her desk. She pulled out a notecard.

"What's so interesting about that?" Trevor asked.

Dr. Frost laughed. She spun the card around. "This notecard happens to be a Free Skip on the next pop quiz."

The class immediately started working on the problems. Dr. Frost's quizzes were well worth skipping if you could help it.

The equations were tough. Sara was still only on the first problem when a deep voice echoed around the room.

"The equation results in the graphical representation of a double helix."
