The group searched for Bentley for nearly a half an hour.

"He's not anywhere!" Erin grumbled as they all headed back out to the parking lot.

Chad tugged off his pirate hat to wipe sweat off his forehead. "I say we call a cab or something and just drive to the club ourselves."

"Yeah," Dan said, slurring through his sharp fangs. "I'm sure Prince will be able to find us. He's a pretty smart guy."

As Trevor pulled out his phone to call for a car, Sara climbed into the door-less Jeep. She pretended to search under the driver's seat.

"Guys, look! Bentley left the keys hidden here." She jangled the invisible keys in her hands.

"What? Seriously?" Trevor asked through the snout of his werewolf costume.

"Awesome. Let's roll on out of here!" Erin said.

"I'll DRIVE!" Sara yelled. She couldn't risk any of her friends seeing that she didn't actually have the keys. "Erin, you sit in the back with Trevor. Make sure he behaves himself."

Trevor smacked himself over the head. "Sara Sweet. I'll behave!"

Sara pointed up to the dark sky.

"It's a full moon tonight, Trevor. Erin will make sure you stay a werewolf and don't suddenly transition back into a rowdy teenage boy," she joked.

Trevor let out a loud howl.

"All right, let's go then," Dan said, whipping his black cape around.

Sara hastily leaned over the Jeep's dashboard. "Hey, uh, Rex? Uh, wake up. Can you unlock the other metal doors?"

The Jeep's headlights flashed on and its motor roared to life. "Sexy Saaaara," it rumbled.

Sara giggled. "Okay, sure whatever you want to call me, that's fine. Just don't say anything once my friends come over here."

The Jeep's lights flicked on and off as if in reply.

She quickly told the vehicle the name of the club.

Rex's digital screen blinked on. The GPS coordinates automatically shuffled through the local Miami addresses to locate The Deep End.

"Halloween, baby, WOO!" Chad yelled as the Jeep lurched forward.

Rex, sensing that Bentley was not around, started to misbehave.

As the Jeep approached an upcoming red light, Sara saw the digital screen on the dashboard flicker.

"Change signal to green," Rex's voice rumbled.

The light up ahead immediately switched from red back to green!

Sara screamed, throwing her hands up in the air. She tried to step on the brake, but nothing happened.

Cars in the intersection swerved out of their way, honking loudly.

"SARA, WHAT'S GOING ON?" Erin hollered from a row behind her.

"SORRY!" Sara called.

Luckily, the boys were too excited to pay much attention to how Sara was driving. They were too busy waving their arms out the open sides of the Jeep. They made silly faces at the passengers in cars around them.

"Rex slow down. SLOW DOWN!" Sara hissed. She tried to keep her voice lower than the radio that was blasting from what sounded like at least ten different speakers.

"Miami is fun!" Rex's low voice rumbled.

"No, this is scary. Rex, this is SCARY!" Sara said.

But the Jeep ignored her. It picked up even more speed. It roared past a speed limit sign that read forty-five miles per hour. But one look at the speedometer showed her that they were NOT going the speed limit at all.

The Jeep tore through another intersection, this time actually shooting through a red light.

Sara was near tears as she gripped the wheel helplessly.

As Rex rounded a turn at an incredibly high velocity, Sara heard the sound of a siren behind her.

She glanced in the rearview mirror. Her insides crumpled.

POLICE!

"Uh, Sara? I think we need to pull over," Erin said. She sounded really worried.

"WHOA! SARA! You got the cops after you?" Trevor started to howl with laughter.

As if the situation was funny.

"Oh my gawd, Rex! You need to stop. Right now! There's a police officer RIGHT BEHIND US!" Sara started to cry.

But the Jeep would not listen.

She felt its gears clank and shudder as if it was shifting its technology around from the inside.

A particularly sharp turn appeared in the road up ahead. At the speed they were going, there was no way the Jeep would be able to maneuver itself around the turn without flipping over.

Sara squeezed her eyes shut and braced for a crash.

Suddenly, the wheels of the Jeep seemed to catch. The vehicle's engine groaned loudly as its tires fought against an unseen resistance.

Sara was flung forward. Without her seatbelt, she would have slammed hard into the steering wheel.

She heard her friends' reactions behind her as they collided into the cushioned seats in front of them.

The Jeep's speed immediately slowed. Its metal body skidded to a piercing, screeching stop. The smell of burnt rubber and smoke drifted into the air.

Sara's heart thudded loudly in her chest. She gasped for breath.

A car door slammed. Heavy footsteps echoed against the pavement.

The furious cop approached the Jeep.

What have I done? Sara thought.
