《Her Revenge》76

I was sleeping when I felt something touching me. I opened my eyes to see Nick sitting and poking his small finger in my biceps.
"That's huge" he commented, "how do I get that?" He then looked at his own and frowned, "mine is soo tiny. I feel so embarrassed right now."
I laughed at his words, "You're still basically a baby. You'll have that when you grow up, don't worry about it."
"Hmm" he slid under the blanket and lied down. "What are you doing?" Confusion was clear in my voice.
"I'm cold" he responded, "I'm going to sleep again. Good nig-morning." He laughed at his own words. A few seconds later, he threw the blanket off him and exhaled, "Now I'm sweating."
That kid was something else.
He crawled upto me before wrapping his small arms around me and rested his head on my chest while his one leg was placed on me as j wraped my hand around him, holding him in place.
It was quiet for a while before he asked, "Where is mommy?"
I ignored his question, "Sleep."
"Is she okay?" He asked making me sigh, "Yes."
"You are lying." He pointed out, "She isn't okay because she isn't here. She promised she will never leave me alone." He took a deep breath before adding, "and mommy never breaks her promises."
"If you stop asking questions and sleep, I'll take you to mommy later."
"Promise?" He asked to which I nodded, "Promise."
**
I walked into the hospital with Nick in my arms. He wanted to see his mother and I wouldn't stop him from doing so. Maybe by hearing Nick's voice, she might wake up. I was ready to try anything.

I opened the door to her room and stepped inside with Nick. He let out a soft gasp when he saw Lea. She was still in the exact same state as yesterday.
I placed him on his feet and he took slow, small steps towards his mother. "Mommy?" He called out, stopping once he was right beside her bed, "Can you hear me?"
I walked behind him and placed my hands on his shoulders, squeezing them softly, "She can hear you. She just can't respond." I said even though I didn't know the answer to that myself but I was hoping she could hear us.
"Mommy, daddy had muscles, why can I have muscles too?" He asked, frowning. He let out a soft sigh when he didn't get a reply. "I'll wait for you to wake up." He promised, before turning to look at me, "I want to kiss her cheeks." I lifted him up and he placed a kiss on each of her cheeks. It was adorable. I then placed him back on the ground.
"I'm a strong boy, I won't cry." He mumbled to himself making my heart ache. He was so young yet was going through so much. When Lea would wake up, I would take her and Nick far away from this life where they wouldn't have to constantly fear for their lives.
I didn't mind giving all up for these two. It'd be worth it. Besides, Antonio could take over, he was old enough.
"You're the strongest boy I know." I wrapped my arms around him, "And crying doesn't mean that you aren't strong."
"Really?" He asked to which I nodded, "Yeah, in fact, it makes you stronger. Besides, crying is human, everybody cries."
"You cry too?" He asked and I let out a soft laugh, "Rarely. Now, do you want to hang out?"

He instantly nodded, breaking the hug, "Yes. Let's go eat ice cream first."
"Sure thing. Just wait a minute." He nodded as I placed him on his feet and walked to Lea. I bent down and placed a lingering kiss on her forehead, "We are waiting for you."
"Daddy? Will mommy ever wake up?" He asked, hope shining in his eyes. I nodded at him, "Of course, she will. She has to."
I was standing in a blank space. There were no signs of human being nor movements. The only sounds I was hearing was the echoing of people's voices. I couldn't make out what they were saying or who they were. I could barely understand what they were saying.
I just wanted to get out of this weird place. Every now and then, the place would start shaking and the blank space would crack. But then it would all go back to normal again as if nothing happened. It was scary, like I could die any second.

Glitched! Uplift Arc
[Winner of the April 22 Royal Road Writathon Challenge] In 2202 the System reached Earth. Thankfully it had learnt from previous uplifts and implemented an introductory arc to acclimatise the new participants rather than chucking them in the deep end. The previous practice of just dumping unsuspecting beings into a System designed for the growth of the multiverse had led to catastrophic and sub-optimal results. The return on investment was abysmal. That old trope was so over-cooked - after nearly extinguishing itself through negative returns new policy was required. That was 356 trillion local years back. Now over 5600 successful uplifts had joined the ranks of the multiverse. But the System was always learning, always growing. Still there were glitches. Mostly minor. Mere irritants really. Sometimes even they were catalysts, triggering a fresh expansion. Soon the System would understand why. Our Earth was 7912th. - Ascend - Battle - Challenge - Dominate - Expand - Gro... - Glor... - Where’s the eff word? - Glitch... File corrupted. ---END SYN---
