“But you have also told me in the past that everything was alright, haven’t you? Then the Chi’s Corporation closed off all of our work overseas overnight. You and dad have been so busy that you have no time to spend with me. Even though you guys won’t tell me anything, I could tell that things were worse than I had imagined. I am a student at a performance school. I don’t know anything else other than acting. If something really happened one day, I want to be able to support us.”

Chi Yu hadn’t expected that coming from Chi Ying. He was surprised and also felt his heart ache when he heard that, “I will never not be able to support you, and I will always provide you with the best resources. You don’t need to worry about that.”

That was probably the reason that the original owner had given up on both her school and career, thought Chi Ying to herself. 

Chi Ying was very touched by his words but she tried to keep her emotions under control. She looked down, a bit at loss. 

Disappointment couldn’t be more obvious on her pretty face. 

Chi Yu softened up all of a sudden.

“Alright, if that’s really what you want,” he said,” I will pave the way for you.”

Chi Ying’s eyes beamed but also, her heart ached. She rubbed Chi Yu on his shoulder. 

“No, it’s alright. I don’t want you to worry about me. You and dad have enough to worry about. Plus, our family business has nothing to do with the entertainment circle at all, and you know that very well. Not to mention that nobody knows that I am the granddaughter of the Chi’s. It’ll be a hassle for you to pull any strings.”

From the original owner’s memories, the Chi’s never openly announced the original owner’s identity.

The original owner, Chi YanQing, and Jing Zheng looked very much alike, so she never doubted her identity. 

Her family had talked much about her being one of the Chi’s, and she didn’t care too much about the status of being a granddaughter of the Chi’s, so over time the issue went away. 

That was an unsolved mystery in Chi Ying’s mind, but not one that she needed to figure out right away. 

Chi Yu went silent for a little bit after he heard that. 

After a little while, he said, “Ok, but just keep one thing in mind. If you run into any kind of danger, you call Master Ji right away. I might not be almighty, but I still have the resource when it comes to the safety of my sister. You need protection.”

Chi Ying smiled and said to him, “Thank you, big brother.”

Her tone was light-hearted, and the tension between them was finally lessened. 

Chi Yu’s frown lessened too, and he asked, “Ying, which directors had contacted you?”

Chi Ying pulled out all of the business cards that she had received and asked, “Why do you ask?”

Chi Ying patted her on her head. With a doting look, he said, “No reason. Go back to sleep now.”

When Chi Ying woke up at 7 AM, Chi Yu was already gone. 

On top of the living room table, there was a sheet of paper that was marked up. It clearly listed out the work and style of each of the directors. 

Chi Yu even put an “X” next to any of the ones he deemed unfit and the reasons clearly listed out next to it. 

As for signing contracts, Chi Yu left it up to her to make the preliminary decision.

Chi Ying felt very touched.

Judging from the list, most of the directors at Oushi were relatively promising. 

Chi Yu put an “X” down, so she used “O” as her marker.

Chi Ying realized that she still has quite a bit of options. 

Quickly, she locked onto her primary choice. 

Gu YuanChen was a new director with a mysterious background. He had started his own private studio a few years ago. 

His work was full of substance and depth and never followed the mainstream. He only had two movies under his name, but both of them received a lot of positive feedback and was highly regarded. 

Gen ShiTong, who had become known as the “Goddess of the Public”, was unheard of before she starred in his first movie.

From one of her looks as a beggar in the movie, she was picked by a well-known director to be in a high-popularity TV show’s female lead and was now a top tier, popular actress.

Chi Ying decided to give it a try. She turned on her cellphone and started searching for any related information. 

A WeChat message popped up when her screen came on.
