《First one》Forty-Three: a fucking explanation

"Everyone makes mistakes..." I whispered, looking down at my hand in Drew's. "But, there are some mistakes I just can't forgive." I said pulling back my hand when I came to the realization, I was going to make a big mistake myself if I was going to let him wrap me around his finger with some beautiful words.
"Please, just one chance Bella, that's all I'm asking! I have feelings for you, I can't just shut them off..." He begged, this time completing to put his hands on my shoulders before I quickly shrugged them off. He looked lost, his eyes almost tearing up.
"The feeling was kind of mutual until you did what you did Drew. You'll have to live with the consequences of your actions. I don't want you to approach me, I don't want to talk to you, I don't want you near me." I said with a bit too much confidence which surprised me. I kind of felt bad for him when his words made his expression fill with sadness as he put his lips in a straight line to keep his lip from trembling. "Now can you get out of my way, I have somewhere to be." I said, my tone icy and calm proving my point.
He finally got the message and moved to the side, his gaze on the floor like a punished child. "I won't give up Bella... you're the girl that makes me want to do better." He whispered as I walked by. His words felt flattering but gave me chills at the same time because I wanted him to give up and they made me feel like this wasn't the last I was going to see of him.
After a small break at the coffee house and another boring class I walked home to my apartment to pick up some more books and toiletries, hoping to stay another night at Lukas's. When I arrived at his apartment, I took out the spare key he gave me and opened the door.
"Mia, are you there?" I yelled, not wanting to startle her as I walked into the living room, taking off my shoes and leaving them at the door.
"In the bathroom, I'm getting ready to go out with Jason." She yelled from behind the bathroom door, the thought of her going out with Jason making me roll my eyes. I was going to have to lie to her for just a few more days. Five to be exact. It was Monday and on Saturday Lukas and Mia would go to their parents' house for the weekend. Lukas promised me to tell her there, for her own good because if it wasn't to protect her wouldn't have agreed to it.
I flopped down on the couch, letting my body get engulfed by the soft and thick pillows, my head sinking back reminiscing Drew's words which were flattering but disgusting at the same time.
"What do you think?" Mia said walking out of the bathroom. Her long dark hair was curled in waves and her makeup dark and smoky. She was wearing a short and tight light blue dress, making her light eyes pop even more. She looked gorgeous twirling around in her dress. Jason doesn't deserve her!
"Shining bright like a diamond." I chuckled as she sat down next to me on the couch.
"Now look at who's citing Riri." Mia giggled as I admired the way she looked so flawless. Any other girl would be jealous, but I admire her more than I would ever envy her. She could get any guy on this freaking planet and still her own boyfriend doesn't know he's the luckiest man in the galaxy. "You like my hair? Gee thanks just bought it." Mia hummed with a smile on her face.

"Ariana Grande would be proud of you." I giggled when I got where she was going with this.
"I promise that you'll never find another like me!" Mia sang the famous Taylor Swift song and we both burst out in laughter. I was amazed at the fact she can't study a textbook but when it came to song lyrics her knowledge was on point.
"That's true, you're one of a kind Mia! Don't let a guy make you feel any different." I blurted out, immediately putting my lips in a straight line to keep myself from saying something potentially stupid.
"Aaaww! You're making me emotional Bella. Now say something funny before I cry and ruin the makeup I was in the bathroom for, for about an hour or two."
"Pudding!" I yelled and she burst out in laughter her laugh contagious making me join.
"How was your day?" Mia asked, curious as always.
"Weird... I saw Drew in class today." I sighed. I had to tell someone in case he would pop up again, not so friendly next time.
"What! What a dick... How does he have the guts to come near you after what he did." She hissed at the air in front of her while shaking her head.
"I know... He tried to confess his love for me... asking me to give him another chance... as if that was ever going to happen... He even took my hand, and all I could think about was getting out of there as fast as I could. He was nice and it's the nice part that creeps me out. He basically told me he would never give up on us." Saying it out loud gave me chills as a feeling of disgust rushed through my veins.
"Are you kidding me!? I'm going to kill that guy!" Mia scoffed, the frustration almost steaming out of her ears.
"You sound like your brother." I tried to laugh it off and she took the hint as a small silence blew through the room.
"So, what are your plans tonight? More shagging with my bro?" She said casually like it's nothing as she looked at the time on her phone.
"No Mia, studying it is..." I shook my head at her, but she wasn't taking no for an answer as she crossed her arms and pulled a brow up. "Fine, maybe... We'll see." I smiled at her trying to sooth her suspicions in an attempt to let the subject go.
"Gosh... More... You're obsessed..." She laughed with a sarcastic tone, not meaning a word as he nudged her shoulder against mine. "I'm kidding... Feel free to explore every corner of the apartment... but stay out of my room." She laughed again this time she meant what she said.
"You're impossible... Can we change the subject please...? The whereabouts of my sex life don't concern your ears." I giggled finding it odd how comfortable it was to talk about it with Mia.
"Uuuhm yes it does young lady, since my ears are the ones who hear all your sex life at night, and in the morning..." Her shoulder nudged me again before taking another look at her phone and she noticed that I noticed. "Sorry, Jason is late, he should have been here by now." She said, her tone no longer filled with enthusiasm and happiness but worry and disappointment.
"I'm sure he'll be here soon." I said and at that moment my phone shimmed from the pocket of my, Lukas's, hoodie and Mia's phone rang, both at the same time. While Mia stood up and answered her phone in the kitchen, I took a look at the text I got.

: Are you still at my place?
My heart skipped with joy when I saw it was Lukas, looking forward to the moment he would walk through the front door.
: Yeah... I'm waiting for you.
: Don't wait...go home...
He was quick to reply but I was beyond confused at his words, not understanding what, why or how... Something must have happened, and I could only guess what. My pulse started to quicken, and the room started to close in on me... What happened? Everything was going so well between us and now this...
: Why? I thought you wanted me here... you gave me a spare key?
: Because I'm pissed, and I don't want to take it out on you. I need to be alone. Please, get out.
I didn't reply as I couldn't see the keyboard on my phone through the tears in my eyes. I threw the phone next to me on the couch crossing my arms until I had to wipe away a tear rolling down my cheek.
"Bella, what's wrong?" Mai said when she came back from her call, looking at me with worried and confused eyes.
"N..-Nothing, I'm fine." I lied, wiping away another uncontrollable tear. Today started so well and as the day progressed thing started to go south, first with Drew, now Lukas too... That's what I should have said.
"Jason just stood me up, said he forgot he had football practice... Ass! He isn't even an asset to the team... Which means you're stuck with me tonight, so you better say what's wrong because you don't want me to tickle it out of you." She said her hands ready to come at me, a smile lighting up her face.
"First, I'm sorry about Jason. Second, your brother is being an asshole." I said, my fingers wiping away another tear, the last one because telling Mia instantly made me feel better.
"What has he done now?" Mia said rolling her eyes with frustration obviously backing me up in this without even hearing the story. I showed her my phone so she could read the texts because there's no way I can repeat them without crying. "Moody asshole Luke is back... Hell, you're not going anywhere. You deserve an explanation, not a fucking silly text. Fucking Lukas! Ggrrr that man is so infuriating... Either he runs away from his problems or her hits his problems with his fists. You are going to stay, I want to see the look on his face when he realizes he can't run away this time." She ranted.
"But I don't want to make him upset..." I whined, wanting to stay but not wanting to make things worse at the same time.
"He made you upset, he probably didn't think twice about that... You're staying...No arguing but first we need to load our emotional weapons with a bucket of ice cream." She said sincerely as she walked to the kitchen and came back with salted caramel ice cream and two spoons. "Dig in, we have a vilan to slay."
Halfway through the bucket of ice cream we heard a key clanging in the keyhole. I turned around to focus my gaze on Lukas entering. He didn't see me as he opened the door and slammed it shut, taking of his shoes and leaving them next to mine. When he looked at my shoes, he knew I was still there, he knew I hadn't listened, and he sighed as he shook his head, his eyes crossing my gaze. My heart sank when I saw the look on his face which was the opposite of the one he left with this morning. He looked angry, sad, disappointed at the same time. My eyes followed him as he walked closer and without realizing I stood up from the couch, spoon and bucket of ice in my hands.
"I told you to leave Isabella." He said, his tone emotionless, while walking past me towards his bedroom. He didn't even look at me and I froze? He was acting colder than the ice cream I was holding. Mia took the spoon from my hand, startling me and startling Lukas when she threw it at him, just missing his head and the spoon landing on the door in front of him. "What the fuck!" He yelled, turning around and I was unable to speak as he looked at me with dark eyes, anger taking over his entire demeanor.
"Sorry, I missed. I was aiming for the back of your head. Trying to put some sense into that stupid brain of yours!" Mia yelled at him while walking towards him as I stood by the couch, my feet glued to the hardwood floor.
"Mind your own business Mia!" Lukas barked at her, his hand reaching for his doorknob.
"This is my business! She's my best friend, you asshole! Whenever you act like a dick, I will always take her side. Why do you always have to mess up anything good in your life! You can't send her texts like that. You at least owe her a fucking explanation." Mia yelled at him, balling her fists at her side and for a moment I thought she was going to punch him in the face.
"I don't owe anything to anybody. I just don't want her here right now, no need to explain." Lukas scoffed while looking back and forth between Mia and I. The disgust in his voice making me feel sick at the spot. I felt my feet coming loose from the floor as I floated away from the spot, I was standing for way to long.
"Bella, what are you doing?" Mia asked, her voice worried as I put the bucket of ice on the table and walked to the door with a hurry.
"Leaving." I said while throwing my bag over my shoulder, my gaze on Lukas who sighed the second our eyes met. Not knowing what I did wrong was almost killing me as much as being in a place I wasn't welcome.
"No, you're not!" Mia yelled, looking at me with confusion and Lukas looking at me with glassy eyes but a disappointed attitude.
"Mia, I can take a hint... He clearly doesn't want me here." I said, my face pale, fighting back tears from spilling over my cheeks as took one last look at Lukas while I picked up my shoes, not even bothering to put them on inside the apartment. I'll tie these in the hall, I want to get out as fast as possible. The best morning ever really turned into the shittiest day of the semester.
