《First one》Seventy-Eight: ask my scumbag ex

Looking back at Lukas's car before going inside the diner, if felt the happiness I needed to forget about my problems with my best friend, his sister. I hit rock bottom over this and Lukas was my lifeline pulling me out of my pit of darkness. Just when I wanted to give up and throw in the towel, he was there. He was always there. He smiled at me, his grin telling me he couldn't wait to pick me up later, and quite frankly I couldn't either.

I deeply sighed before going in through the back entrance, reminding myself why I needed this bloody job even though I hated it. While shaking my head to get the thought of quitting out of my head I closed the door behind me and quickly went to the dressing room.

The worst part of this was the uniform and my boss, the sexist prick. "Hi Isabella. That ponytail suites you." Audrey who was also getting ready for the shift said. She was always in a good mood and I really think she enjoys working here as much as I hate it. I wouldn't be able to stand the amount of shifts she has taken at this place and still keep a smile pasted on my face like her.

"Thanks." I answered in a very awkward tone, not expecting the compliment. Does it really though, I feel like I look like an egg.

She was tying the laces of her skates while I unpacked my uniform, still thinking about a way to make the skirt appear less short. If only I could drop it down over my hips, but that was impossible as the fabric just didn't give in. "How was your weekend?" Audrey smiled my way.

I bit my lip at the thought. My weekend, you mean the worst days of my life apart from the moments in which Lukas tried to cheer me up? "Where do I start." I huffed.

"Saturday maybe?" Audrey chuckled and the stupidity of her question made me laugh as I shook my head, trying to squirm into the skirt.

"On Sunday, I had a fight with my best friend, she completely hates me now. So yeah, my weekend really sucked." I said, trying not to think about it too much. I didn't want to start this shift in tears.

"Auwtch. I'm sure she'll forgive you." Audrey said as she got off the bench, and up on her feet, well skates.

"Then you don't know Mia yet. I have never seen her so mad." I said, pulling my T-shirt over my head to get into the hideous blouse with a serious lack of buttons. Urrgh. I was getting frustrated as I couldn't get the few buttons on the damn thing to come lose.

Audrey noticed my struggle and rolled towards me, taking the blouse from my hands. "Relax Bella, If she doesn't forgive you, no matter what you did, she was never really a great friend." She said, opening the buttons one by one like it was nothing as I crossed my arms in front of my chest. "Here."

I took the blouse from her with a smile. She was one of the few nice people around campus. "Thanks." I said before quickly sliding the sleeves over my arms. "Well, some things are unforgivable, don't you think. Like not telling her, her boyfriend was cheating on her?" I said, like I needed someone to tell me it was indeed unforgivable. That I was the bad guy in this story.

Audrey shook her head, a smirk on her face. "Bella." She said putting her hands on my shoulders. "She would have always been angry with you, no matter how long you knew about it. You're the one telling her her relationship was a lie, whether it was for one night or a few weeks. How was she supposed to take it. Eventually, she'll see that you're not the one who broke her heart but her asshole of a boyfriend. It just takes time." She smiled. "Trust me, I was a Mia once." She said, the look in her eyes like the wound was still fresh.

"How can anyone cheat on you?" I frowned at her while buttoning my shirt and tucking it into my skirt. She's perfect, who would be dumb enough to do such a thing.

"Ask my scumbag ex. Now, I'm happy I dropped that bag of dead weight and I forgave my best friend." She shook her head, tying the apron around her waist, like I was. He words and the widening of her eyes made me chuckle. "Now, come on chop chop, I could use a set of hand to help cause the place is already packed with hungry people.

I smiled at her words even though I wanted to sigh at the thought, she had a gift to make every obstacle seem so light. Maybe she's right, maybe all Mia needs is time. Talking about time, please make it fly and get this shift over with.

After quickly putting on the skates I rolled out into the diner, observing the tables. Alright this is going to be the busiest shift so far. To my relief time was going by quickly and much faster than usual.

The last people coming in for lunch had just entered the place. Well, late lunch cause It pas almost 2 p.m. Oh well, let's roll out and take the order. I went to the table, three guys from the Lacrosse team as they were wearing their team jacket. These guys are such a cliché, I mean do they really have to wear these jackets everywhere they go?

As I came closer, I already didn't like the way they were looking, like I was a piece of meat to them instead of someone kind enough to serve food to their arrogant asses. Don't judge, don't judge, maybe they're okay. I bit my lip, trying to push away my sudden mood.

As closer as I got, the hungrier they were looking, and not for food. I had gotten these looks way to often in here, the culprit, the damn uniform. "Hey ponytail." One of them yelled, while I tried not to look at them. Freaking pigs. I rolled my eyes and decided to take their order as fast as I could and then just turn my back at them. I might not be the friendliest waitress here but what do they expect when there's no room for respect in here.

"What can I get you?" I said, on the politest tone I was able to push out as my eyes wandered over the group. Handsome yes, their demeanor screaming major asshole alert, definitely yes.

"A beef burger and a taste of that delicious ass of yours." The blonde tall one on the left of the table said to me, his tone as arrogant as the look on his face. Of course, the two other pricks joined him with laughter.

"A beef burger, alright? Noted." I said, dry yet still polite, I wasn't going to show my colors just to amuse them. That's what they wanted, they wanted to get some sort of reaction out of me. I wasn't going to give them one. "And for you?" I directed my gaze to the one on the middle, ocean blue eyes and a good jaw. A good jaw to hit if the prick keeps looking at my breasts like that.

"Do you sell lap dances around here? Cause I sure want one from you." Seriously. He laughed and I tried my best not to roll my eyes at his comment. Now, do they really think that's funny? They can't be that dumb. While all three of them enjoyed the moment and laughed at me I saw Audrey in the corner of my eyes.

You okay? She mouthed at me with disgust and concern in her eyes. I nodded before redirecting my gaze towards the pigs in front of me. "Okay, so nothing for you." I smiled at mister Jaw because he was for sure not getting anything other than food or drinks.

"Fries will be fine." He said eventually giving me a real order to note down. I nodded, not letting them get the upper hand. That's how this works, I learned after a few encounters like these.

"Alright, you?" I asked the last one, almost looking like the middle one's twin, they could be actually related. They had the same stupid grin on their faces.

"Same, fries." He said. Yup, twins, they even order the same thing, what a surprise. I inwardly rolled my eyes at them, trying to at least amuse myself.

"Alright, coming right up." I smiled at them, and as soon as I turned around, I felt three sets of eyes piercing underneath the stupid skirt. Fucking frustrating.

I rolled to the kitchen giving the order note to them by pinning it on the counter. "Everything okay there?" I heard Audrey from behind.

"Just the regular comments, nothing new." I turned around to meet her, a faint smile on her face. I shook my head while looking between her and the table at the back. "I don't get it. Who do they think they are?" I sighed with frustration; my voice utterly annoyed as they were staring at us.

"I know, I waited their table two weeks ago. They gave me a hard time too." She sighed, turning around to stare at the trio. "Be careful their hands aren't attached to their body. They think because they're part of something called a sports team, they can do anything..." She frowned her brows at me. "They need to wear those jackets cause a regular sweater doesn't fit around their necks." She paused and rolled her eyes, her comment making me let out a laugh loud enough for them to notice. "They're not all like them though, some of them are nice, but they're not, unfortunately." Audrey shook her head, while noticing her order coming from the kitchen. "If you need help, just say so." She offered while taking her order and carefully rolling to her tables.

There were no new tables that needed to be taken care of so I just waited by the kitchen until the order of the devil's table was ready. The kitchen ringing the tiny bell pulling me out of my murderous thoughts.

Reluctant I went to their table, their order in my hands. Now's not the time to trip and fall, unless the plates end up on their laps. Ind that case, go for it.

"So, ponytail we were wondering." The one in the middle said as I put down the plates on their table. I nodded, trying not to give them too much attention or words for that matter. "Are you one of those college virgins waiting to get their virginity taken, cause if yes all three of us are offering on the condition you keep that damn costume on." He said, his eyes giving me a hungry once over and if my jaw could drop to the floor physically it would have. The guts they had to even say something like that. Stupid men and their needs, I'm sure that when it comes to picking up a girl when they're by themselves all they can do is sit and stare with a sudden loss of their tongue.

"What?" I said totally disgusted and in shock. Are they for real? I felt my blood boiling being treated like an object, a piece of meat in the supermarket. What the!

"You heard him." The one on the left said, licking his lips like he was mentally preparing himself for the deed.

"I have a boyfriend so no thanks." I blurted out on a not so polite tone, squeezing my eyes at all three of them. I'm so done with this table. I swiftly turned around as I set the last plate on the table, getting away from them. But little did I know that would trigger their inner cavemen. As I turned around, I felt a hand go under my skirt to squeeze my butt. "What the hell do you think you're doing!" I yelled, turning around to face them, none of their faces shocked like I hoped.

"Come on I just wanted to feel how juicy you are." The one who couldn't keep his hands to himself laughed at me. This is fucking embarrassing.

"Are you serious? Touch me again and your hand will never touch another girl like that. Who the fuck do you think you are!? Huh? You're disgusting! I have to wear this uniform; do I enjoy it. No. Does it give you an excuse to fucking touch me. The hell no!" I yelled for the entire diner to hear. "You're comments and the way you look are bad enough, but touching me is crossing the line." I yelled, getting closer to the one who touched me, who was now sliding down his chair with embracement. Good. I wasn't going to let guys like them waltz over me like that, not anymore. Enough is enough. "So, if you ever touch me, or anyone working here, I promise to make your experience here a living hell!" I yelled, all of my frustration on men with loose hands coming out at once. Lukas would be proud for standing up for myself, and so am I for once.

"What is going on here?" I heard Gregory's angry voice from behind me. Uh Oh. I turned around and he was fuming. I was yelling at customers and that wasn't such a good move. Nevertheless, they deserved ever word of it.

"Nothing." I said, waving it of like nothing happened.

"She just stared yelling at us for no reason." The one in the middle of the group of assholes said. Oh hell no.

"Sorry for yelling at them." I turned around to tell Gregory with a frown on my face. "But one of them went under my skirt and grabbed me." I shook my head, looking back at the one who did it, wanting nothing more than to wipe the smirk of his freaking face.

"Come with me!" Gregory said, grabbing my arm. "Sorry guys, your order is on the house." He said to the table while pulling me towards the kitchen. I nearly fell of my chair if I were to sit on one. He can't be serious. They did something wrong and they are getting rewarded for it.

Once at the kitchen, away from any customers he finally let go of my arm and I prepared myself for the worst. "Listen good to me young lady! I don't care what they call you, and if or if not they grab your ass. I pay you to work and be polite to the customers. No matter what circumstance, you always stay polite! You can't just yell at them! Unhappy customers are not returning customers. And that's not good for business." He yelled closer to my face than acceptable. The tone in his voice so threating and aggressive I felt a lump in my throat cutting of my air supply.

"B-But-" Was all I managed to let out in defense.

"But nothing! How badly do you need this job?" He yelled again, his eyes furious and veiny like they were going to pop out of his head. I couldn't speak, completely taken aback by the fact he didn't even acknowledge that what they did was wrong. "That's what I thought. Bad enough to not yell at customers when they grab your ass. Now put a fucking smile on that frowned face of yours and go back to work." He yelled before disappearing into his office. Awful. This job is awful, He is awful, quitting college cause I can't afford it because I don't have a job is also awful so what kind of awful is it going to be? I shook my head, trying my best not to cry and put the fakest smile on my face.

I rolled back out, seeing Audrey at the door. "I heard what he said. Are you okay?"

I scoffed at the air, shaking my head in the hope my tears would shake back into my head. "I swear, I'm this close to quitting this shitty job." I said while pointing out the amount with my index finger and thumb, not much space between the both of them.

"I don't blame you, Bella. Gregory is a bigger jerk than all the groping jocks together."

"But you like to work here?" I shook my head, confused at how she can say that but still walk around here like it's the world's most fun thing to do.

"It's called good acting, Bella. My ex would now. Well actually he doesn't, he never noticed I faked it." She laughed, and it made me burst out into laughter, forgetting about the anger boiling in my chest for just a second. "Aah that's what I mean, smile and wait those tables like it's worth it." She said, patting my shoulder as she scrunched her nose.

I chuckled, thinking about her words before I went back in, relieved the table of assholes was empty and they plates too. They act like pigs, they eat like pigs, they're definitely pigs. With that thought I was able to brighten up my mood a bit as the diner only had the regular afternoon clients coming in for a coffee.

To kill time, I started cleaning the bar, taking away empty milkshake glasses as Audrey got empty plates from the tables and brought them to the kitchen. I enjoyed working with her, she was always kind which was a nice change from all the bitches I was usually around. As I wiped the counter clean, I saw Audrey's gaze being directed at the door, rolling her eyes at whomever was coming in. I followed her gaze until the noise coming from that direction fitted with the view. Uurrg after those jocks, now this. Is life really trying to screw me over today!
