《Running with His Child》Chapter 36

Owen and I waited at the doors of the mansion, watching the men scrambling along. It was an amusing sight, seeing as I knew they would all be defeated soon.
Owen help my hand tightly as he watched too, his feet pattering on the ground out of impatience. He never liked to stand in one place, so this was a challenge.
My head turns to Jason as he nearly stomps into the foyer. He seems almost afraid, it's like he feels that everything is going to go horribly wrong.
As he passes, he turns to us, mumbling out: "we are leaving in two minutes."
"Jason," I call loudly as he moves further away, "Owen needs to use the bathroom... it's an emergency."
"Make it quick," he responds gruffly, stomping off into the dining hall.
Slowly, I pull Owen along, taking long, lengthy strides to the downstairs bathroom. It takes us about a minute to even reach the bathroom, which is good timing for our procrastination mission.
Once in the bathroom, Owen makes his way to the toilet, climbing up onto it, "Mommy, turn around!!" He shouts in a whisper. Giving off a soft laugh, I follow his orders, looking towards the wall opposite of him.
"All done?" I question after a minute, tapping my foot on the floor.
"Yup," Owen responds, hopping off the toilet and pulling up his pants, "All done!" Shaking my head with a smile, I move over to him, holding him by the shoulders so that he can reach the faucet to wash his hands.
A rattling on the door makes us both jump, it's quite aggressive and I have no doubt who it is.
"We've got to go!" Jason yells from the other side, "What the fuck is taking you so long?!"
"One minute!" I call out to him, slowly washing Owen's hands.
"They are almost here damnit! Do you want to be caught?! Idiot woman!" A loud punch is thrown at the door.
I knew it was risky even trying to procrastinate, but now, I was just terrified. Never had I heard Jason yell with this much aggression before, and I did not like the sound of it.

"Okay! We are coming!" I huff out, placing Owen on my hip and shutting off the faucet. My hand reaches for the handle and unlocks it, pulling it open to meet a furious Jason.
Seizing my upper arm, Jason grips it, tugging me along in a bruising hold, "Jason, that hurts!" I struggle, trying to pull away.
"Deal with it, I'm done with your slowness." He grumbles, pulling us outside. The sun's beaming light heats up my skin as we enter it's path, sending a wave of comfortable-ness my way.
As we begin being shoved into a car, I spot a large-armored car speeding straight towards the gate. The force of the car is enough to break the gates open, the car flipping once in the process.
"Fuck," Jason mutters, staring at the car. He is quick to pull Owen and I up and against him.
I feel a cold revolver pressing against my temple, sending shivers down my spine. "Jason... what are you doing?"
"One more word, bitch, and I'll shoot." He whispers to me, his voice in a deep grumble.
My eyes move without my head, scanning the area throughly. Every one of Jason's men have their guns pointed at the truck.
The armored vehicle sits idle for a solid minute, which worries me more than anything. Is whoever's in there okay?
Behind me, Jason makes a unique whistle, sending the men to crowd the truck.
One guard hesitantly stepped forward, aiming to open the passenger-side door. He pulls the handle, a look of confusion covering his face. He foot moves to the step, and he pulls himself up for a minute before dropping back into the pavement.
"There's nothing in here bo-" His sentence is cut off by the loud explosion of the truck. Anyone within a ten-foot radius was taken into the explosion. This left only a dozen men still alive.
Once the flames die down enough, it was clear to see the dead bodies scattering the area. Owen screams in my arms, his small body shaking at what he just witnessed.
The revolver is torn from my temple, and Owen is ripped from my arms. Turning around, I see Jason holding the gun to him.

"Tell him to shut the hell up!" Jason scolds, pressing the gun harder.
Owen's wails don't subdue, but only grow louder. Glancing around, I see men emerge from the sides of the house, using silencer pistols to take out the remaining men. This time, Owen's cries are useful. It covers the smaller sounds of the guns.
"Shush, baby," I coo lightly, placing my hand on his soft, tear-filled cheek, "If you quiet down, maybe Uncle Jason will give you back to me."
His wails quiet down a little bit, his sniffles and soft sobs remaining. "Jason, please, just hand me back Owen."
"Why should I, huh? I know it was you who called for help. I've got fucking cameras in my office, are you stupid?" Jason rants, the gun pressing into Owen a bit harder, "You ruined it. You ruined it all! I was about to accomplish something great, and now look at me! I should have gotten rid of you the moment this bastard was born! Seeing my bitch of a wife so happy with you changed my mind. You will fucking pay for this, and so will she. Now shut the hell up, and watch as I take the life of your precio-"
The sound of a gun sounded through the driveway area, cutting off Jason as he spoke.
He looked stunned for a moment before his body started to give up limply. With him, Owen's body crashed to the floor, his wails growing louder. Quickly, I reached down to scoop him up, grabbing the gun Jason held.
Looking forward, I spot an army of men moving out from the side of the house. With them, my eyes spot Kyle, in all his arrogant, but redeeming glory. He takes quicker steps, moving towards us swiftly.
An awkward feeling bubbles inside of me as he does so. His face looked so intent on something, and it somehow made me nervous. Is this because of that damn kiss? So help me it is...
Kyle finally reaches us after a minute, surprising me greatly with an embrace. His arms wrap around me and Owen.
Once Owen realizes who is with us, his tear-stricken face lights up, his arms moving from me to Kyle. Little traitor.
After a minute, Kyle pulls back, taking Owen into his arms and bouncing him around a bit. "Have you been good for your mother while you guys were away?" he questions, smirking lightly.
"Mhm! I've been very good! Does that mean I can have some ice cream?!" Owen is quick to question, giving us an innocent smile.
"A whole sundae," Kyle replies, shifting him on his hip. I couldn't help but smile at the conversation. It was crazy how Kyle's presence could change Owen's mood almost instantly.
The sound of a car door opening makes us snap our heads to it. Out of the corner of my eye, I see many of Kyle's men pointing their guns at the sound. It isn't long before Matilda and Ricky emerge, tear-stricken and scared.
I step away from Kyle and Owen, looking towards the group with the guns raised. "She's harmless," I speak loud enough for them to hear, "lower your guns."
The men glance to Kyle, a questioning glance on each of their faces. He simply nods, and the men stand down.
My feet quickly move in Matilda's direction, it isn't long before I reach my destination. Opening my arms, I embrace both of them, rubbing Matilda's back.
"I miss him, Laine. I miss my old husband. The one who was kind, and wouldn't hurt a fly. I know it was all a charade, his innocent demeanor, but it hurts." Matilda cries into my shoulder.
"I know, I know, I am so sorry... I wish it never turned out this way..." I tell her softly, not sure what else to say.
I consoled her for around five minutes before pulling away and leading her back over to where Owen and Kyle were.
They had been messing around, Kyle throwing him up a bit.
"We should get out of here, I don't want to take any chances by staying," Kyle speaks, motioning for us to follow suit.
Though that damn mansion isn't what I'd normally what I'd consider 'home', I'm glad that it was in this moment, and glad that we were headed there.
