《Love is in the Air》Chapter 12

I woke up the next day. As always I was over thinking what happened. He really did kiss me. I wasn't imagining things. I wanted to scream but I contained myself.
Yesterday Ethan, Sara and I spent the entire day together. We watched tv, then we all played board games, foosball and air hockey. We were all so tired by the end of the day. I woke up this morning by Sara's side. I got her up to get ready for school. The chauffeur dropped Sara off and then he dropped me off at school. I texted professor Adams and said I was going to come in and that I would go and see her today.
Class went by in a blur, after lunch I headed to Mrs. Adams office. I knocked and she opened her door. "Paige!" She said giving me a hug.
"Hey professor" I said.
She released me from the hug. "Paige I told you to call me Whitney." She said.
"I know I'm sorry." I said.
"Well don't be. Anyways I'm glad you're here. I have a huge favor to ask you. So as you know, my husband and Ethan work together. Their company donates large amounts of money to this school. My husband usually receives an award every year and I come and accompany him. This year however, we can't attend. Ethan has to come in my husbands representation and I would just love it if you came in mine." She said.
"Oh, um professor" she raised her eyebrows at me. "Sorry. Whitney, why doesn't his girlfriend accompany him. She's a lot more suitable than I am." I responded.
"Suitable? Really Paige Suitable? Please she couldn't hold a conversation with anyone in the room. No offense to anyone who is blond but she's a stereotypical dumb blond." She said. "Plus there will be many medical school directors." She said.
"That may be true. But you know me" I said.
"I do know you. I know your very shy. But please say yes. I really need this favor from you Paige" she said looking at me.
I sighed. I really did owe her a lot. She's helped me out since day one on campus. "Ok fine" I said.
She hugged me. "Great! I'll email you the details. I'll talk to Ethan. You two can arrive together" she said.
"Ok." I said.
I left for my next class, but unfortunately I couldn't concentrate thinking about the event I had to go to. I got my professors email. The event wasn't until February. I still had a few months to mentally prepare myself.
I arrived to Sara's school on time. I was waiting for her to come out. Suddenly two nanny's approached me.
"Paige is it?" One of them said.
"Yes. How do you know my name?" I asked the one who said my name.
"Oh we know everything." The other one responded. They both looked like models. One was a brunette and the other was a redhead.
"So. You work for the Andersons. You're so lucky. Ethan Anderson is one fine looking man." The red head said.
"I agree. I'm so jealous he's your boss. So how did you do it? They fired so many nanny's. It seems the dumb kid didn't like anyone." The brunette said.
That comment made me so mad. "Well first of all she isn't a dumb kid. She just a sweet little girl who needed someone" I said.

"You mean a spoiled rich kid?" The redhead laughed.
"Well you wanted your answer. There it is. Sara Can see right thru people like you. That's why she didn't like anyone" I said.
"Well I never" the red head said and they walked away mad. How dare these people say that about.
"Way to call them out." The Chauffeur said. There was so many of them that I couldn't get their names right. I believe this ones name was James.
"Just stating the facts" I said. I could never stand up for myself. However I would do anything for Sara.
Then the bell rang and Sara ran into my arms. "Hey. How was school today?" I asked her.
She told me all about school on the way home. When we arrived we ate lunch and I helped her with her homework. I didn't need to do much. Sara was a genius.
We had finished. Then Sara looked at me. "Paige." She said.
"What is it dear?" I asked her.
"Can I ask you for a favor." She said.
"Anything" I said.
"Can you teach me how to swim. After what happened on Sunday I want to learn." She said.
"Of course! I'm not a teacher but I can show you what I know" I smiled at her.
She hugged me. "Thanks Paige! You're the best!" She said.
"No you are. So when do you want to start?" I asked her.
"Today?" She asked.
"Really? Today? Are you sure you're ready?" I asked concerned.
"If you're there with me I'm sure I can do it" she said.
Those words reached my heart. That was just so sweet of her to say. A tear ran down my check and I hugged her.
"Let's get changed and we'll head to the indoor pool. How does that sound?" I asked her.
"Race you!" She said heading to her room.
I put on some shorts and a T-shirt. I never wore bathing suits. I hated showing off my body.
Sara and I headed to the indoor pool. They had enough equipment for me to show her. All I need was a paddle board, A pool noodle and some goggle, Which they had in the pool house.
Sara and I reached the stairs of the pool she stopped. I held out my hand to her. She saw it and she reached for it. "Ready?" I asked her.
She nodded and we slowly headed down the stairs. We were in the shallow end of the pool. I showed her how to move her legs with the paddle board. She was a natural. Then I showed her how to move her arms. I held her for a few laps then I let her go on her own. She was doing great. Finally I showed her how to breath while swimming. After about an hour I said " I think that's good for today. What do you think?" I asked her.
"Yeah I'm kind of tired." She said. "Paige why don't you wear a bathing suit?" she asked.
"I get embarrassed while wearing one." I said.
"Why?" She asked.
"Because according to society I don't have an ideal body and I don't like people to see me." I said.
"Paige you're perfect just the way you are." Sara said. My this cute little girl had a way with words. Her words melted my heart.

"Thanks honey." I said giving her a hug.
We heard someone walk inside the indoor pool and we both turned around. "What are you girls up to?" Ethan asked as he walked up to the pool.
"I was giving Sara a swimming lesson." I said.
"So soon?" He said tasing his eyebrow.
"I asked her to show me how to swim." Sara said.
"Sara your could of asked me. I would of hired a tutor" he said.
"It's no problem at all. I'm not an expert but I can definitely show Sara what I know" I said.
"I don't know. I don't want you to think we are taking advantage of you" he said.
"I would never think that. On the contrary I'm one who..."
"Nonsense" Ethan cut in. "Don't you have an after noon class today?" He asked.
I completely lost track of time "oh you're right I do! Come on Sara!" I said grabbing her hand and getting out of the pool. I immediately grabbed a towel and wrapped it around myself. I didn't mind wearing shorts in front of Sara, however I did mind wearing them in front of my boss.
I took a quick Shower and James took me to school. I made it just in time for class. Once class ended I headed to the parking lot. I didn't see James anywhere. Then I heard my name being called out. "Paige!" I turned towards the noise. It was Ethan.
I walked towards him. "Where's James?" I asked.
"He took Sara to a piano lesson. I signed her up on the days you have class in the afternoon. So I came to pick you up" he said.
"Oh ok. That wasn't necessary tho. I could of taken the bus." I said.
"No. It's not problem really. Hop in" he said and I got inside the passenger seat.
"So do you mind having dinner with me at this dinner I saw on my way here? I'm so hungry." He said.
"Yeah sure. What about Sara?" I asked.
"Her class is going to finish late today because it's her first" he said. He pulled up to a local dinner and parked. We headed inside and we sat in a booth. "Thanks for joining me. I already told you this but you know I hate eating dinner alone." He smiled at me.
The waitress came up to us and gave me a look. I know I have no idea what I'm doing with him here. She took our orders and left. "Paige I'm sorry if I freaked out earlier with Sara. It's just that her accident was just a few days ago and I..."
"No i understand. When she asked I was surprised. I thought it was too soon as well. But you know what. Your little sister is a warrior. She can take on anything." I said smiling as I thought about Sara.
"I starting to see that now. It's all thanks to you Paige. I wouldn't have been able to get thru to my sister without you." He said as he looked at me.
"No you two would of found a way. I'm just glad I....."
I was interrupted by a voice. "Paige?!" I heard someone say. I looked up and I saw Lily. I got up from my booth and I hugged her.
"Lily" I said. "I haven't seen you in forever" I said.
"I know. Well you haven't been home" then she turned towards Ethan "and I can see why" she whispered.
Then one of our, dare I say it, snobby roommates came up to us. "Oh hi Kelly." I said. I didn't like her too much. We never interacted. She was mean and self centered.
"Paige." She said rolling my her eyes at me. Then she saw Ethan. "And who is this" she said patting her eyes at him.
"Oh hes...." I was about to say but she interrupted me.
"He definitely not your boyfriend right. I mean come on" she said.
Although what she said hurt me. It was true. "No he's..."
I was about to say but she interrupted yet again. "Oh let me guess he's your brother. I mean I don't know how else he would be here with you." She said.
That stung too. "No, I'm not her brother. However I am someone who's genuinely interested in Paige and your interrupting our dinner. So if you don't mind leaving us alone. That would be great" he said.
My mouth fell open. I heard Lily laugh. Kathy looked embarrassed.
"Whatever" she said walking away.
"Bye Paige" Lily said and I waved back to her.
I sat back down on the table. I could feel Ethan stating at me. He finally spoke. "I don't like that girl" he said. Me either I thought. "Why didn't you stand up to her?" He asked.
"There's no point." I said picking at my food.
"What do you mean there's no point. Was there no point in standing up for Sara today?" I looked up at him. Wait how did he know? "James told me." He said. "thanks for that by the way. However why can't you stand up for yourself?" He asked looking at me.
"There's no point. I'm used to it" I said.
"You should never let someone walk all over you. Why did you stand up for Sara but not for yourself." He asked.
"Because I would do anything for Sara. I however don't care what anyone thinks of me. I've heard it all." I said.
"What do you mean...."
Then our waitress came with the check. "Oh can I please get a slice of caramel pie. There's no nuts in there right?" I asked.
"No, none" she said.
"Then I'll take a slice to go please." I said. She nodded and left. I turned to Ethan "Sara has been craving pie and we haven't had a chance to bake on so I'm taking her a piece." I said.
"Oh thank you. But why no nuts?" He asked.
"Sara is allergic to nuts." I said.
"She is?" He asked in disbelief.
"Yup she has been ever since she was 5. She told me how she once scared your mom when she had peanuts. Your mom took her to the pediatrician and there they told her she wasn't supposed to eat any type of nuts" I said.
Ethan covered his face. "How did I not know this?" He said.
I touched his shoulder. "Well you do now. Don't worry about the past, worry about the present." I smiled at him and he smiled at me.
