《The Workaholic's Wife》42. Of Movies And Cuddles

The re-opening day of my bakery went great. All my old customers came to visit us and I got some new ones too. But I realized that we might need to hire one or two new bakers to help divide the load. With more customers, the burden on Liam and I had increased so I asked Rachel to put a sign on the door that we were hiring new cooks.
While I was decorating the mint chocolate cupcakes on the aisle, I heard a pair of heels striding towards me. I lifted my head to look at Helena who was observing this new place with a smile.
"This place looks banging." She commented. She was wearing a velvet dress that accentuated her slim figure, her hair pulled up in a flawless bun.
"Thanks. What are you doing here?" I asked in surprise.
"Well, I had already sent an invitation card to Evan but I guessed I should personally invite you as well. I'm throwing a party to inaugurate my new club. And you girl, have to come." She said, pointing her finger at me. "And wear something hot." She added a wink.
"Um..."
"No Umm. You're coming with Evan." She said and then opened her bag to bring a card out. "And give this one to Liam. You have to show this card at the entrance."
"He is in the kitchen. Why don't you invite him yourself?" I asked and led her to our kitchen.
Once we stepped through the doorframe, my eyes widened in embarrassment as I watched the scene unfolding inside. Liam and Rachel were busy chucking flour at each others, their skin and hair covered in white powder. Beside me, Helena was throwing daggers at them, Rachel in particular.
I coughed to clear my throat and that's when they noticed us. Liam's playful expression changed on watching Helena and he dusted the floor off himself immediately.
"Sorry for disturbing your playtime." Helena sarcastically remarked and put the card on the counter of the kitchen. "This is an invitation card to my party. You can bring your girlfriend too." She said with a fake smile on her face and stomped out of the kitchen, leaving Liam and Rachel baffled at her reaction.

I followed her to the exit of the bakery where a car was waiting for her. "Helena," I called her name to stop her.
"Yeah?" She turned around dramatically and asked.
"Why don't you admit that you like him? It was so obvious that you were jealous of Rachel." I told her what I felt. As her friend, it was my duty to give her a genuine suggestion because it was clear that she had some feelings for Liam.
"Jealous? I don't get jealous over men, sweetheart. It's the other way around." She smiled smugly and motioned towards her driver who opened the door of the car for her. "See you at the party," she said before leaving.
I knew she was trying to act cool but the hurt on seeing Rachel and Liam cozy was obvious on her face. I know women like her; they try to act like they don't need anyone but in reality, they just don't want to get their hearts broken by the men they like. I just hope she soon realises her feelings before either of them gets hurt badly.
............
It was Saturday evening and after eating our dinner, Evan left for his study room while Cara and I decided to watch a movie. I didn't know Cara was a horror movie fanatic like me so when she chose a horror movie to watch, I felt weirdly proud.
Each of us took a small tub of ice-cream to the couch and we turned the lights off. The movie started and we cozied up under the blanket. "Are you sure you won't feel scared?" I asked.
"No, I love horror movies." She said confidently.
"Wow, you're just like me then." I passed her a smile and wrapped my arms around her, pulling her close to me.
The movie started with a scene where a family moved into a new house which was the plot of half of the horror movies I have watched. The youngest daughter of the family went into her new room and while she passed by the mirror, a scary pale face appeared in the mirror.
I immediately turned to Cara to check if she was scared but she rather looked interested. I took a bite of the ice-cream and then continued with the rest of the movie.

Half the movie had passed when Evan emerged through his study room. He walked towards us and flopped on the couch beside me.
Just then, a scene with some gory details appeared on the screen and Evan stiffened beside me. "Why in God's name are you showing that to my daughter?" He asked, sounding horrified.
"What? Cara likes horror movies. Don't you, Cara?" I asked and she nodded.
"Kids shouldn't watch such movies. Turn it off." He ordered and attempted to steal the remote out of my hands but failed because I ducked in time.
"Come on, Evan. I used to watch horror movies and I turned out fine." I reasoned but he didn't loosen his frown. "Wait, don't tell me you're scared?"
"Why would I be scared?" He blubbered, defending himself but the look on his face said otherwise.
"Then come on, watch the movie with us." I challenged.
"I'm not stupid." He blurted dryly.
"Yes, you're not stupid. You're scared." I teased him and his jaw clenched.
"Fine." He glowered at me.
I turned to Cara to high-five her but instead, found her eyes drooped and her face sleepy. Evan offered to take her to her room and he returned after a minute to complete my challenge. I turned off the lights once again and we settled on the couch.
The movie started again and Evan focused his attention on the TV screen. He looked hot in the black T-shirt he was wearing, his messy hair adding to his appeal. I smiled and turned my attention to the movie.
The minute a horror scene appeared on the screen, Evan scooted closer to me unknowingly. I suppressed my smile and watched as his jaw ticked uncontrollably.
"Are you scared?" I asked.
"Not at all," he gulped, watching the pale ghost of the kid with widened eyes.
I smirked and continued shifting my gaze between the screen and my husband's face. He won't admit it but he looked scared as hell. He was surely not a horror movie kind of person and it was evident from his face.
The movie was going on normally when all of a sudden, something horrid appeared on the screen and Evan jumped in his seat, gripping my shoulder in his vice grip. He looked away from the screen and clenched his eyes.
"Who the fuck watches this kind of movies?" He whined with a contorted face.
"Admit it Evan, you're scared." I smirked.
"Fine, I am scared. Happy?" He sighed, glaring at me with his piercing blue eyes.
"See, was it that difficult?" I asked and laced my fingers with his. "Come on, scoot closer. You won't feel scared."
"No thanks." He said.
"Ssshhh," I said and pulled him closer with his arm which was a difficult task considering the strength difference between us. I wrapped the blanket tightly around both of us and snaked my arm around his waist.
"Are we cuddling?" He stared at me with an amused look on his face.
"Maybe." I said and rested my head on his arm.
"Well, if we are, we should do it properly." He said and then shifted on the couch to make himself comfortable. He then tugged me along himself in such a way that we both ended up half-lying on the couch, with me sandwiched between his arms and his legs. I blushed hard at our intimate position when he rested his chin on my shoulder and tightened his hold around my waist. Thankfully, the couch was way too big for both of us. "Now that's better." He whispered in my ears from behind and covered us with the blanket.
"Shut up," I said, blushing profusely and shifted in his lap.
"Whatever you say," he whispered again teasingly, right next to my ears. "Just don't move much. Some parts of me would get too excited."
When I finally understood what he meant by some 'parts', my embarrassment reached the peak and my face felt like it was close to exploding.
