I rested my head against the cool glass of the window as the car drove down the highway.
I was with Melissa and Callie. We were heading back to my house after going to the mall. Callie had wanted to get a new outfit for tonight. We didn't mean to spend the entire evening there, but Callie loved shopping and we ended up visiting almost all the clothing stores.
She'd tried talking me into getting a pair of heels that would probably give me vertigo and leave me with an incurable fear of heights by the end of the night.
After a good three hours of shopping and another five minutes of tying Callie down in the car so she wouldn't make a beeline for the mall to start shopping again, we finally left.
After a loud, pain-filled twenty minutes of Callie and Melissa singing along to Shawn Mendes, I had had enough. Luckily my phone rang and rescued me from having to listen to anymore. My face lit up with a smile when I saw the caller I.D. It was Noah.
Noah was one of my best friends. We'd been friends since we were kids. His family used to live in the house next to ours before they moved away.
When I was six, I was in a really bad accident and I didn't remember any of what happened before I woke up in the hospital. When I got out of the hospital, my parents announced that we would be moving to a new neighborhood.
Starting over a new life felt weird, but Noah became my first friend.
"Hey you," I greeted. I couldn't contain the excitement bubbling up inside of me.

"Hey," he laughed.
The sound, although deeper, brought back memories of my childhood when we used to spend every day together.
"Did you get my text?"
"Yeah, I can't believe you're finally coming back."
"I told you I'd come back one day, believe me."
I giggled, remembering how he used to always yell that line when he was little.
"You still say that."
"Yeah... are you coming to the airport?"
"Of course. As if I would miss your grand arrival," I grinned.
I could feel his smile on the other end of the phone. "Yasmine's excited to see you."
"I can't wait to see her again."
There was a small lapse of silence.
"I'm excited to see you too."
I smiled. "See you Saturday."
"Saturday."

When we got to my house, we spent the rest of the evening just relaxing and chatting. We finally started to get ready for the party at eight. I stared at Callie suspiciously as she inched closer to me.
"Pleaaase," she begged doing her best puppy eyes. In one hand she held a mascara wand and in the other she held lipstick.
I grimaced. I didn't like wearing makeup, because it always ended up irritating my skin somehow. Callie promised that this time it wouldn't, and after being persuaded by her and Melissa to try something new, I found my face being painted on with more products than I could count.
I had to admit, when she was done, it did look nice. It was subtle and I still looked like me. After that, we started getting dressed. I wore a simple black dress that came a bit above my knees and short heels.
"How do I look?" Callie asked, flipping her hair dramatically.

"Fabulous darling," Melissa drawled and Callie grinned and started twerking.
"Aye!" Melissa grinned, joining in her antics and I used their distraction as an opportunity to download a new book to my online library.
I probably wouldn't be socializing at the party anyways. At least if the party sucked, I could slip way and get cozy with The Throne of Glass in the car.
"Okay, that's it," I said, picking up my purse. "We should go. We don't want to be late."
"Um, I'm not driving you to the party anymore, Liz."
"Then who is?" I asked, glancing between Melissa and Callie.
"Not me," Melissa declared, sliding off my bed to put her heels back on.
"We arranged to go with our dates... and we kinda set you up to go with Kev."
"I'm going with Kevin?"
"Yeah," Melissa said while re-doing her lipstick. "It's only fair that Klizzy rides together."
"Klizzy?" I asked. "What's Klizzy?"
"Ooh Klizzy!" the energetic red head squealed. "I ship it!"
"Is anyone going to tell me what Klizzy is?" I asked.
"Not what's Klizzy, it's who's Klizzy." Callie winked, booping my nose.
"And that would be?"
"Your ship name. Kevin and Lizzy."
"My name's Elizabeth. And why do you want to put our names together? That's weird."
"You don't have a romantic bone in your body," Callie sighed.
"I do, but Kevin and I are best friends. There's nothing going on between us. This is just a friendly date."
"I guess we'll find out tonight," she said grabbing my wrist. "The guys are here."
After my parents worried and voiced their concerns about me going to the party for the millionth time, we were finally cleared to leave.
Outside, there were three cars lined up by the curb. I recognized Kevin's car. His was a fast, shiny, red sports car. He was leaning against it idly.
I looked over at the other dates. Demetri was very handsome with black hair and piercing obsidian eyes.
Trey had skin the color of caramel, curly brown hair and warm amber eyes.
I finally made it over to Kevin's car. I hoped to god I looked at least presentable. It was too late to go and change so I had to at least look okay.
When he saw me, his expression changed from boredom to awe. I smiled at him and gave a small wave.
"You look really beautiful, Liz," he whispered, pulling me in for a quick peck on the cheek.
I blushed at the quick contact and Kevin grinned.
"Shall we get going, my lady?" he asked opening the door for me.
"Why thank you, kind sir," I said, playing along. "We should be on our way."
He grinned, shut the door and then jogged around to the driver's side before getting in and speeding off to our destination. Hopefully tonight would be memorable.
