Several days later, it was time for us to head out to Wu Xi.

Wu Jian left early that morning to meet with the Emperor for final instructions. After he came back, he gathered all the concubines left in the estate. The women had been happy, believing that Wu Jian would take them along to Wu Xi, but their smiles turned to tears when he told them that they can stay or go - he no longer needed them. If they stay, they will continue to follow the strict rules of the Wu Estate. If they go, they will be given enough gold to live the rest of their lives in comfort. It had been simple and cruel. The concubines were all left dumbfounded when Wu Jian left without a backward glance - not that he ever looked back at anything.

Meanwhile, I was sitting on the bed, trying not to disturb the servants and maids while they are packing things in the room and carrying them out. When I thought to pack some of the books in the shelves, several maids had panicked and begged me to let them do it. They have been so against me helping that I was forced back to bed.

"Ruyi"

Seeing the Prince at the doorway, I stood to greet him.

"Are you ready to go?" He put a hand behind my head and pulled me closer to him.

I nodded. The Prince placed a light kiss on my forehead before he took my hand and lead me out. I followed him out the estate, confused as to why I was the only one of the Prince's women going. Where were his concubines? Are they going separately? Figuring it was the Prince's concubines, I didn't think to ask.

Outside the estate gate, I was surprised to see a small simple wooden carriage - big enough to fit two or three people. Behind the small carriage was four wagons covered with animal skin. The carriage and wagons each lead by two horses. Around the carriage and wagon were twelve guards - all simply dressed in dark brown or gray robe. All the guards sat on their dark brown horses, ready for the trip.

Soon, two maids and I was lead inside the carriage. Upon entrance, I realized how well the interior was insulated and how the seats were cushioned. Despite how modest it looked on the outside, the inside was quite luxurious.

"Ruyi"

The curtains from the window were lifted, and the Prince, now sitting on a black horse, was beside the carriage.

"We will be traveling straight through the capital and cities. There will be many nights were we will set up tent outdoors." He reached inside the window to touched my cheek."The doctor will be heading to Wu Xi separately but do not worry, his protégé is with us to ensure your safety"

I understood the Prince had thought all of this for me - afraid that my poison will act up during the travel.

"Do not be afraid for I am with you"

Giving my cheek a final touch, the Prince withdraw his hands and gave the order for departure. When the carriage moved, I felt thrilled and nervous. It was the first time I've been able to go anywhere. To be able to go to the outside world had always been an impossible dream.

That impossible dream is now a reality.
