《The Billionaire's Personal Shopper》His Gentle Embrace

Nick told me not to make rash decisions, but I always acted on my emotions. It's what got me into a relationship with Jacob in the first place. Signing myself up for yoga classes was probably a smart thing to do. I'd do just that in twenty-nineteen.
That was probably a promise to myself I wouldn't keep, but a girl could dream.
Joel who was giving me a ride to Jacob's office looked uncomfortable. He didn't want me to head to the office but didn't speak up about it. He was keeping secrets too. Just like Mrs. Quake was. They weren't my people, I fooled myself into thinking that.
They would always follow Jacob.
The longer it took to reach the office the angrier I got. I was filled with rage, breathing fire. Yoga was definitely something I needed in life. I clutched my phone tight, so tight I feared for a second that I'd break it.
Joel cleared his throat to catch my attention, "We're here Miss Merigold." He politely spoke up.
"Thank you, Joel. I can see myself out." I let him know and climbed out of the car.
Not giving the man time to respond I made my way into the intimidating building. People moved aside to let me through, it was like they knew I was on a warpath.
Or they were aware I was the woman who was going to marry Jacob Blackwood soon.
Either way, I didn't care. I was too pissed to care. I approached the front desk and narrowed my eyes on the woman who shivered in her chair, gulping as she met my gaze. I suppose I didn't have a friendly face this morning. Everyone steered clear from me. The woman at the front desk reached for her phone without me asking for her to do anything.
She tightly smiled at me, "You can go right ahead, Miss Merigold." She said quietly.
Never in my life did anyone seem that scared of me. I definitely needed to calm down. Taking a deep breath I let out some of the tension and smiled at her, trying to mean it too.
"Thank you, have a nice day."
She put the phone down and responded with a forceful smile of her own, "You too, Miss Merigold."
She was definitely not a fan of me. The damage was done, there was no going back now. I walked through the security gates and headed straight for the elevator which someone held open for me. Everyone was being so polite today and I wasn't even being nice to anyone. I always did try to treat people kindly but the day I was furious and had no control over my emotions people were a lot nicer to me in return. It made me realize why Jacob liked to be so freaking intimidating.
It made people do what he wanted, being that powerful actually felt pretty nice.
The ride to the top floor was long and unfortunately made my anger die down. It was like an annoying ache in my stomach, dull enough to irritate you but not strong enough to actually make you take measures. When I did reach the top floor I was greeted by an older woman. She looked around my mom's age. I couldn't intimidate her, it was like going up against my mother and I hated that too.
She placed her hands on her hips and dared me to try that shit with her, "Oh, honey, don't even try." She mocked me.

She knew.
I glanced over her shoulder, noticing movement behind her. Jacob made his way to us with confident strides. He looked upset but funnily enough, he didn't look upset with me. That was confusing since I was the one who people in this building tried to avoid like the plague due to the resting bitch face I probably had a moment ago.
"What are you doing here?" He asked quietly as he approached me, placing his hand on my lower back and guiding me past the sassy older looking woman, "Why aren't you at home?" He asked as he guided me to his office.
We were close to his office when someone stepped right in front of us. I froze, my blood running cold as I stared at the smirking woman who looked like the she-devil herself. A man dressed in a nice three-piece suit quickly followed after her, sounding a little out of breath when he apologized to Jacob.
"I'm sorry, she slipped right past us."
Jacob looked pissed but he didn't say anything. He pushed right through Fenna and guided me not so carefully into his office, holding onto the doorknob as he was about to close the door.
"Stay here, don't go anywhere."
He couldn't tell me what to do, not when the anger I felt moments ago was slowly awakening in me again.
"Why? What's going on?" I asked, folding my arms across my chest, "You better speak up because I'm very close to having a break-down, Jake." I added his pet name just to mock him and show him how serious I was.
His eyes darkened, the message was received and not well.
He glared at me, "I'll be right back, we'll talk then." He whispered, "Now I need to make sure she leaves and not cause any more drama than she already has."
He closed the door and separated me from his ex-assistant who couldn't stop smirking at me. I wanted to smack that smirk right off her face. But then she actually had hard evidence against me to sue me for every penny I had. She didn't deserve that.
I turned my back to her and walked up to Jacob's desk, taking a seat behind it. She looked offended when I sat down in the big leather chair and returned her smirk. Flicking my hair back just to show off the massive diamond ring she wanted but never received.
She looked ready to throw a tantrum.
Jacob followed her gaze, a subtle smile spreading across his face when he glanced at me. Security approached them carefully and spoke with the lawyer and Fenna. A minute later they walked off, well, Fenna more or less stomped off but that just proved how childish she was.
Jacob watched her carefully, his team of lawyers talking to him as he listened and nodded. He then walked with them to the elevator to see them off. It gave me time to settle in his chair and find the right words to throw his way when he joined me in his office. There were so many things I wanted to say but if I didn't pick one subject it would become a mess of accusations thrown his way.
Jacob would talk himself out of that one, he was talented like that.
My fiancé walked into his office, closing the door behind him. He pointed at his desk, "Push the button right underneath the desktop. It will give us more privacy."

I did as told and watched in awe as windows and doors frosted and gave us the privacy we needed.
"Comfy?" He asked as he sat down in one of the one-seats before his desk.
I leaned back and smiled knowingly, "Very."
We stared at each other, daring the other to start of the conversation. Neither one of us wanted to give in. I tried to use the anger I had felt a moment ago but it had faded away simply by Jacob's calm behavior as he settled in the one-seat.
I was weak when it came to this man.
"Is she still finding ways to make life difficult for you?" I asked, caving in because the silence was killing me.
He pinched the bridge of his nose, tiredness showing as he let out an exhausted sigh. It was that bad, it made me feel guilty for coming to his office wanting to throw a tantrum. There was no way I could have known Fenna would have shown up with her lawyer but I still felt awful.
"Thought she was losing the sexual harassment case?"
He nodded, "She is." He loosened his tie and started to unbutton the first three buttons of his shirt. He was coming undone in his office which was unlike him, "But she is now claiming that she got pregnant and that I threatened her to get an abortion. She is going for emotional abuse now."
Shameless was the first thing that came to mind. Not once did it cross my mind that Jacob did get the woman pregnant because I knew him better than that. He might have given in to his lust but he would have used protection with her. He was smart enough to know that some women out there would purposely try to get pregnant to get a hefty paycheck out of him. He wasn't as careful with me because I came from a wealthy family.
He was careful with me when it came to other things like me having the power to completely crush him publically if I was that awful.
I wasn't that awful, at least I liked to believe so.
"Is that why you want me to get pregnant?"
"Well, yeah, that's one of the reasons." I noticed how his eyes widened for a split second, he realized what he said in a moment of weakness and quickly tried to compose himself, "No, you know what I mean."
He was at a loss of words which rarely happened, he was all over the place which gave me the opportunity to take control. I reached inside my bag and tossed my container on his desk.
"Did you or did you not mess with my pills?" I asked, "Be honest with me, it's what got us this far."
He was silent for a while which was worse than when we were staring at each other. He relented after a few seconds and nodded.
"I messed with them." He admitted. He noticed the change in my eyes and quickly got up, "But honestly, I know you want the whole wedding first and then think about children. We rushed into this marriage because of Fenna and did you once regret that decision?"
"You cannot make your actions sound reasonable, Jacob!"
"I shouldn't have gone behind your back. I'll admit that." He spoke in a calm tone, not looking guilty at all as he did try to make his actions sound reasonable, "We're getting married soon, sweetheart. Our relationship is solid, a child would complete our little family. I know you were probably unsure about me first but are you still unsure about me?"
He couldn't do that. He couldn't emotionally manipulate me to give in. What he did was wrong even though he was right about me judging him. He proved me and everyone else that he was serious about our relationship and our future.
"You broke my trust." I whispered, "You tried to force me into something I didn't consent to."
He then had the decency to look guilty about his actions. He looked away from me, probably not being able to look into my watery eyes. He hurt me by breaking my trust. He knew that now and thankfully didn't try and manipulate me further. He got to his feet and walked around the desk, he grabbed my hand and gently pulled me to my feet. The minute I was standing next to him he wrapped his arms around me and hugged me tightly, his lips brushing my hair.
"I was wrong." He whispered to me, "I'm sorry."
I closed my eyes listening to his quiet apologies. He hugged me tight and tried to calm me with his warmth and his gentle kisses. I wrapped my arms around his waist and leaned my head against his chest. Tears did stream down my face but I didn't mean to cry.
"What if I did get pregnant, you've been relentless in bed," I mumbled.
I swear I heard the smile in his voice when he said, "Then we'll figure it out."
I tightened my grip around him because I knew if that happened Jacob did get what he wanted and got away with it. I needed to rip him a new one yet I couldn't. I loved him and knew that he loved me too. Throwing a tantrum now felt wrong to me.
Nick was right about me after all. When it came to Jacob I had lowered my guard and gave him the power to control me.
"I'm not doing New Year's Eve," I muttered.
That was my silent protest. I was still upset but there was no way I was leaving simply because Jacob forced me to have the future he wanted. It was also the future I wanted in the end.
"I'm sure I can work something out with your family."
I rolled my eyes, "Of course you can."
He chuckled, kissing my head once more, "Do you hate me for it?"
I tilted my head back and met his stormy gaze, "I can't hate you."
He brushed his hand gently over the back of my head, his smirk turning into a warm smile which made my heart skip a beat.
"Cute." He whispered, "That's what I love about you."
I knocked the air out of him when I leaned my head against his chest without warning again. I smiled but he couldn't see it.
"There is an awful lot you love about me."
He wrapped his arms around me again, "I simply love you."
He knocked the air out of me then by simply using his words. This man never played fair and I loved him for it. I just didn't share that with him, he already had too much power over me.
I only snuggled closer and smiled. I forgave him too easily but I didn't care.
