《My Pet Mate》Chapter 36

*Annabelle's POV*
"ANNA!" I was barely out of the car before I was jumped by my sister. "I missed you sis!" She exclaimed as she gave me a bone crushing hug.
I couldn't help but smile, "Missed you too!" I spoke as I returned the hug.
"I'm so excited that you're here! I'm going to show you around the pack lands! Show you our house! Oh, and the training fields when Will is doing his afternoon training!" She started to ramble as she tightened the hug.
"Isa, let the Luna breathe." Will's familiar voice came from behind us. Isa broke the hug and ran over to her mate before hugging him too.
A deep chuckle came from besides us and I turned that way. There stood a tall man and a woman around my height. The man had fiery hair and striking blue eyes. He stood apart from the crowd and I somehow knew he was the Alpha of the pack. The woman looked calm and collected, being dwarfed by the man beside her. She had tanned skin, curly brown hair and brown eyes. She was georgeous.
"It's nice to meet you Alpha Grey and Luna Grey." The man said, making me blush.
Luna Grey??? I'm not married to him!
No one seemed bothered by my address, but I felt Adam grab my hand and squeeze it. 'Don't worry about it. Mates are considered married.'
I squeezed his hand back, 'If my dad finds out about that address he will kill you.'
'Well, let's not let him know then.' Adam responded nonchalantly.
"It's nice to meet you as well. Thank you for showing us around the pack." Adam spoke diplomatically.
The man nodded, "My name is Uriel, and this is my mate, Yasmine." he said as he pointed to the woman besides him.
Yasmine stepped forward and gave me a warm smile, "It's so nice to meet you two. Isa won't stop talking about you, Luna Anna."
I smiled and greeted back. "Thank you, it's exciting meeting another Luna, and please, Anna is fine." I spoke. I had discussed with Adam beforehand and he told me it would be ok to give another Alpha pair the first-name pass.
The Luna in front of me beamed, "Then call me Yasmine as well!"
I nodded. After the first meeting we got a tour of the pack. The pack was a lot smaller than Ray's pack. It was like a small community. Isa and Will had their own little house. It was an adorable cottage, and I had teased Isa when I saw that there were plenty of extra spare bedrooms. Isa just pushed me away and told me she wasn't ready for kids any time soon.
The Alpha and Luna had their own house as well. It was modest and homey. We eventually split up the men and the woman, much to the men's dismay. Yasmine and Isa told them we needed some girl time, and that we would meet up again when training started. We were currently in the Alpha and Luna's house, drinking some tea as we chatted.
"Anna has never met a Luna before." Isa blurted out and I slapped her. Of course she'd blurt that out before even asking.
"Really?!" Yasmine asked.
I just nodded sheepishly. "The only other pack I've been to doesn't have a Luna anymore."
"Wow! I feel special!" Yasmine exclaimed. "Do you have any questions?"
I awkwardly scratched my head. I don't think I've ever felt shy before, but somehow meeting another Luna, a high rank in packs, made me feel inadequate. "Uh... not really, I mean I don't really have a pack so right now I don't really have Luna duties or anything. I guess I'd be interested in what you all do or something." I blabbered.

Yasmine giggled, "That's fine. In this pack I mainly help with the small children. I help out at the daycare almost every day. Besides that, there is some mandatory paperwork. I used to do the economic side of the pack but thankfully, Isa now does it."
"That's interesting. What kind of paperwork?" I asked before realizing how intrusive that sounded, "Oh wait, you don't have to tell me the ins and outs of the pack I didn't mean to come across as nosy or disrespectful."
"Not at all!" Yasmine said with a chuckle as she waved me off. "Just general paperwork. Pack business. Numbers of pack members, making sure everyone is provided for and stuff like that."
I nodded in understanding and Yasmine smiled, "I also organise most of the festivals or parties. People often approach me when there is a mating or pack ceremony. Usually, that's something all Luna's do."
"Oh Anna you'd be great for that. You know how to organise parties." Isa chimed in with a dreamy look on her face. "During our birthdays, Anna would always organise everything. She was on the forefront and made sure everything was ok."
I frowned, "You and mom helped out a lot."
"But you were the one who pulled the final strings." Isa pointed out.
I bit my cheek. She wasn't wrong per se. But it wasn't like everything was perfect. There were often problems or things I'd forget. I remember at our 17th birthday I completely forgot to buy drinks. It was chaos. Thank the lord dad was able to drive to the store a few minutes before the party started. I looked back at Yasmine, "Are there other things you do?"
Yasmine smiled, "There is one more thing. I usually help pack members with any problems. They'll approach me with anything that's bugging them and I help them out."
"Sounds rough. Do you have a degree in psychology?" I asked.
Yasmine shook her head, "Most of the time I'm just a listening ear. If it's anything too serious I'll send them to our pack doctors. I'm a Luna not a professional."
"Yasmine does a great job though. People look up to her a lot." Isa supported.
Yasmine blushed, "I'm just happy to help."
"I don't think I'd be able to do all that." I mumble.
"I've been Luna for a few years. It took a while before I got the hang of it." Yasmine says softly, holding her heated cheeks in her hands.
"It's still impressive!" I pointed out.
Yasmine just bashfully nodded and thanked us for the compliments. After this, Yasmine showed me some of her less important paperwork and she told me more about what she does. We went to the training fields to watch Will train, and to my surprise Adam was sparring with Alpha Uriel.
I panicked slightly before Gamma Gus reassured me that everything was ok and that it was just training.
I've only seen Adam beat up Gamma Tim, and that was a pretty one sided fight, so to see him spar with Alpha Uriel was really interesting.
Both Alpha's were precise and calculated. Their moves were fast and every movement seemed to have meaning. I was able to see some moves that Adam has taught me before, but I certainly wasn't a professional, so I couldn't point out everything that was going on.
Fortunately, Gamma Gus started pointing things out to us, as well as Yasmine, who knew self-defense herself.
I cringed as Adam was pushed back but he rolled over and jumped back on his feet with ease before charging at Alpha Uriel again.

Gamma Gus frowned next to me, "How well does Alpha Grey have control over his wolf?"
I blinked and looked at him, "It's fine?"
Isa rolled her eyes at my response, "Alpha Adam has been rogue for six years. His control is impeccable."
Gamma Gus grunts, "Interesting..."
"Is there something wrong?" I ask.
Gamma Gus shakes his head, "Not necessarily. I just noticed that his movements became a lot sharper. I think his wolf is in control."
"Do we need to break them up?" Yasmine asks.
"I don't think so. They're both Alpha's, so even if it's just a friendly match it always comes down to pride. I was just wondering about Alpha Grey's wolf." Gamma Gus says.
We nod in understanding. The fight doesn't last a lot longer. Adam manages to floor Alpha Uriel and gets him in a hold he can't escape from.
Gamma Gus calls the match and Adam let's go, a slight growl escaping him.
Yasmine runs over to her mate and asks him if he's ok. Alpha Uriel smiles at her, "I'm fine, baby." He turns to Adam, "You're plenty strong for a guy who hasn't been training for a while."
Adam doesn't respond at first and I softly grab his hand. Adam looks at me and his eyes soften, "I've been trying to get back on the level I used to be." He finally says. His voice is rough, showing that Cade is indeed at the surface, but that Adam is in control.
"I bet I wouldn't stand a chance when you're at your best." Alpha Uriel says with a chuckle.
Adam shrugs, "I used to train every day, multiple times a day. It's a hobby for me."
Alpha Uriel nods, "I'm usually busy with pack duties, I sometimes don't have the time to train at all. Can't believe you managed to train multiple times a day when running a pack a lot bigger than mine."
"I didn't have a mate back then. All I could really do was take care of the pack or train." Adam says as he pulls me closer to him. "My Beta and Gamma also helped with paperwork at the pack and in return I helped training the pups. We had a good dynamic going on."
"Sounds great." Alpha Uriel says with a nod, he then looks at me, "I hope you have been liking the pack so far Luna."
I smiled at him, ignoring the fact that he used my title even though I told him it was unnecessary, "You have a beautiful pack, Alpha."
"Thank you, Luna." Alpha Uriel looks at the rest of the group. There were plenty of men and women training. Some had paused their activities to watch the Alpha's fight but everyone had resumed by now. After seeing that his pack members were doing good he looked back at us, "Let's head back to the pack house. Dinner should be ready sometime soon."
We all nod and start heading back. Isa told us she was staying behind to watch Will finish training. I started to head over to give her a hug but Adam stopped me. He was still holding my hand, and he didn't seem to realize that I was trying to break from his iron grip. Fortunately, after asking him he let go and I could hug my sister goodbye, who in return pointed out that we'd see each other again in half an hour.
When the pack house was already in sight Adam linked me, 'Sorry about just now. I hadn't realized we were still holding hands.'
I smiled at him, 'That's fine.'
Adam let out a smile that didn't reach his eyes and I frowned, 'Are you ok?'
'Yeah... I was just surprised by Cade during training. He suddenly decided to join in.' Adam links.
'Gamma Gus told us he thought Cade was in control during the fight.' I told him.
Adam nodded, 'He wanted to be let out.'
Alpha Uriel spoke up about something I didn't really understand yet. Some werewolf things I didn't quite knew about. When we reached the pack house the cooks were already working on dinner and it was delicious. During dinner I met James, Gamma Gus' mate and we had a good time overall.
After exchanging numbers with Yasmine and saying goodbye to Isa and all the higher ranked men in the pack we headed back to my parent's house.
My parents were already asleep when we got home. It was quite late. Alpha Uriel and Isa had kept us around for some drinks at the pack house and it was almost midnight.
Adam and I got ready for bed and Adam silently entered my room when I was taking off my make-up.
"You did great today." He spoke up after hugging me from behind and kissing the top of my head.
"Thank you. They were all really kind." I reply as I do a last check and stand up.
We head to the bed and cuddled up together. "Would you want to create a new pack?" I asked him.
Adam raised an eyebrow, "As in have pups?"
I immediately felt my face turn fifty shades of red, "N-no! I meant as in f-find people or something!"
Adam chuckled, "I know, Love. Sorry for teasing you." He then sighs, "I guess I'd like to have a pack again. It's in my nature to be an Alpha, you know. Taking care of a pack is what I love to do. It's not really possible though."
"Why not?" I asked.
Adam hums and lays down on his back, "The only real way I can think of is by taking over another pack, but challenging an Alpha for no reason is just asking for trouble."
"Oh... you can't ask people to join?"
"I suppose you can, but generally, people are happy in their current pack. I could try to find rogues, but those are kicked out of their pack for a reason, taking in murderers or criminals isn't something I'd like to do." Adam explains.
"That makes sense. Kind of sucks that you can't just create a new pack." I mumble.
"Eventually you can create one. That's why I pointed out pups. If an Alpha and Luna couple have plenty of pups and their mates all join the pack as well. The pack grows. Then, they will have pups and the pack grows even more. It's a slow process, but it's what started some packs. The kids of an Alpha and Luna usually don't join other packs when finding their mate." Adam tells me.
I frown, "How does that work anyway? If two mates from different packs find each other?"
Adam absentmindedly pulls me closer, so that I'm resting my head on his chest. "The highest ranked mate usually gets to keep their rank. If there is a wolf that's a Beta and another wolf that's an Omega, they'll pick the pack of the Beta, so that the Beta can keep their position."
I pause before speaking up again, making sure I wouldn't sound like I'd want to have kids right now, "So if we were to have kids, their mates would join our pack?"
Adam smiles, "Our first pup would become the next Alpha, any pup after that still has Alpha blood, so they're automatically higher ranked. Only if their mate is the next Alpha in line or the Alpha already will our pups leave our pack."
I nod in understanding, "It's all so organized." I mumble.
Adam chuckles and kisses the top of my head, "Wolves thrive in packs and hierarchy. It's only natural there is a natural order of things."
I nod again and yawn. Adam starts to run his hand through my hair, "Go to sleep, Anna."
I smile and snuggle up to my mate. "I love you."
"I love you too. Goodnight Anna."
I don't remember responding, with Adam close to me and running his hand through my hair, I was lulled to sleep in seconds.
