《The Baddest Boy in Town (COMPLETED!!)》*Chapter Two*

I stepped out of the shower and looked into the mirror. I had long brown hair with brown eyes. I'm 5'2 and pretty curvy. Not a stick but also not fat. Nothing really special about the way I look. It was the same old me other than the injuries.
The left side of my face was slightly swollen and pretty bruised. The green and blue tinged skin was accompanied by a gash on my forehead from where the concrete hit. There was a bruised hand print wrapping around my neck and my back had a few scrapes on it from the rough wall. I reached up to brush my face but cringed slightly as a sharp pain erupted.
I got dressed in some blue skinny jeans and an oversized grey hoodie that would hopefully hide some of the bruising. I wore my hair down so it could also hide my face a bit more. Today would be much easier if I hadn't run out of foundation a week prior. I grabbed an apple from the bowl on the counter, slipped on my shoes, and stepped out the door. My plan for today was to keep my head down and avoid Zack and his group. I don't think he recognized me because we haven't once talked in all the years we attended the same school.
It took about fifteen minutes to get there because of the pace I was going at. I was really dreading going in there so I wasn't exactly in a rush. I pushed open the heady doors and walked though. I fought my way through the crowds of students and right as the three minute bell went off, I made it to my locker.
I quickly grabbed my books and rushed to my first period. Math. My least favorite subject. I walked in just in time and took my seat in the back as the teacher droned on about algebra. I zoned out and started day dreaming within the first ten minutes.
*******************************
I managed to get through 4th period and now it was lunch. There was gossip around the school that Zack and his 'gang' as everybidy refered to them as, were looking for somebody. Nobody really knew who but me. Because there was a 95 percent chance they were looking FOR me. Whenever I saw them in the hallways I would turn around or keep my head low as they passed, and when we had a class together I would sit as far away as possible and made sure they didn't have a view of my face.

So far none of the teachers have said anything about my hoodie which is quite odd but my two strictest teachers were out for the day. I'm so glad that my best friend Julia (or Jules as I like to call her) was on vacation or I would have some serious explaining to do. I don't think I would have enough energy for all of that since I barely slept at all last night.
I grabbed my food from the canteen and slipped into the library since that's where I usually eat any way. I set my pencil case down next to me and started on some of my homework. The bell rang so I sprung up and continued on with my day.
*********************************
The end of the day finally rolled around and I was walking home after having to stay longer and retake a quiz. I was about two minutes away from the school before I realized I had left my pencil bag at the library. I sighed and turned back. It was going to get dark and chilly pretty soon so I had to hurry. Within a couple of minutes I was back at the entrance of school.
Basically everyone had gone home and only a few teachers and the odd student were left. I hurried to the library and looked where I thought I had left it. It wasn't there so I looked all over the library. By the time I realized it would probably be in the lost and found I had already been there for fifteen minutes.
I started the walk to the other side of the school where the lost and found bin was. I dug around in it for ten minutes before I found it under a pile of coats. I shoved it into my back pack and looked out the window. It was already about to be dark so I slipped out the back door.
I still kept my head down as I walked incase anyone was still around to see. I was almost to the side of the school when someone crashed into me making my hood fall down and me fall over. I landed on my butt and they almost landed on top of me but saved themselves.
Me head snapped up and saw that it was... yep you guessed it. Zack Fuller was staring at me with his two friends behind him. I pulled up my hood before he could see my face. He suddenly grabbed my arm, yanked me up and they all yelled "run" at the same time.

I didn't even have a second to think before three police officers turned the corner with flashlights yelling at us to stop. I pulled my hood more over my face as we all took off towards the back of the school. When we came out the other side they were still right behind us. We turned towards a bunch of buildings and started towards an ally way. Given my luck with the dark spaces between tall buildings I was hesitant to follow but I know the other option was probably getting arrested.
There were two ladders on the walls. One was about four feet off the ground on the left side that went up about half way up the wall and the other one started a few feet below the end of the first one and stretched up all the way to the top of the building on the right wall. Without thinking right as I got close enough, I jumped and pushed off of the right wall and grabbed onto the ladder on the left. I quickly climbed the ladder and as I made it to the top, I pushed off of the wall and grabbed onto the other ladder.
I don't think I had ever climbed anything so fast in my life and let me tell you, it was definitely taking a toll of my lungs. I looked back down as I lifted myself onto the roof of the building only to see Zack following me up the ladders. I tried to steady my breatjing a little as I watched the cops run down the street we were on before and finally make it to the alley way. The other two kept running because if they tried to get up this way, they would probably get caught. I backed up as Zack finally pulled himself up on the roof. I rolled over onto my back, out of breath as Zack crouched down on the roof and watched the cops run past.
All you could hear was our heavy breathing for about thirty seconds before I busted out laughing. I couldn't help it so I clamped a hand over my mouth but was still letting out quiet laughs. I heard his deep voice ring out in the silent night.
"What's so funny? You could have gotten arrested you know." I peaked out of my hoodie to see that he was looking at me.
"Nothing, but do you mind telling me what that was about?" I asked calming down from my giggle fit. I think I was finally going insane. Does shock have long term affects?
"We put a tiny bit of graffiti on the front of their car and they didn't like it too much." he said with humor in his voice. My jaw dropped as I stared at him crouching there and smirking.
"You cant just go around vandalizing stuff!" I said as I sat up. He raised his eyebrows at me.
"And who says that?" he questioned.
"The law." I huffed while standing up.
"As fun as this was, I have to get out of here." I said and I walked over to the other edge of the building and spotted another ladder.
"Wait, what's your name?" he asked standing up too. I just kept walking but he grabbed my arm and spun me around making my hood fall off. My hand shot up to put it back on as I tried to turn around. Key word, tried. He still had my arm in his hand, holding me still. His eyes widened.
"What happened?" he asked surprised at my beat up face.
"Nothing." I said in an irritated voice. He wasn't supposed to see that.
"Did this happen last night?" he asked finally putting two and two together. I sighed as I knew he had pretty much figured it out.
"It's none of your business. I need to go." I said and tried to yank my arm out of his grip but he was to strong.
"Let me see." he demanded. I huffed and turned towards him, seeing no other option. He reached up and brushed his thumb over my cheek making my flinch back out of his reach. He looked conflicted but eventually settled on a response.
"You should ice that" he said as his grip loosened. Wow. No really?
"I have to go." I said and spun around. I hopped down the ladder before he could grab me and started home as fast as I could.
One things for sure and its that I'm not going to get much sleep tonight.

March 16, 2021 - Hiatus note: I will come back to this story! I'm really struggling with it, though. It's been a number of years and I kind of forgot what the original outline was. I still remember the main path, but not any of the details, because I stupidly didn't write an outline. Progress is being made. I'd like a very decent sized buffer before I start posting again. Don't want to get hopes up only to immediately disappoint! ----- Amy Barnes, an aspiring chemical researcher, finds herself dying from cancer. One of her most desperate prayers is answered in a way that she'd never dreamed possible, and she finds herself living a new life as a dungeon. Warning: Violence, morbidity Cover: Taken from here, courtesy of www.pexels.com by photographer @tookapic. Author's Note: I've read some dungeon core stories on here, and they've tickled my fancy. I've thought up a whole story, start to finish, and thought it'd be a blast to put it into words. Other than the violent and morbid aspects, this story is suitable for children. Aside from the vocabulary, that is. I will avoid the temptation to have any cursing, sexuality, or gore. Excessive gore, I suppose - it is a dungeon story, after all. I’ll do a little research from time to time, but this story will not have a great deal of rigor. I’ve made Amy’s knowledge comparable to my own for that reason. There’s a few things she knows more about than I do, and a few things that she knows less about. Unlike me, she doesn’t have access to Google - it’s a non issue for her to be more knowledgeable than me, on occasion :P This story does not use the same magic system that I’ve used in either Sorcery in Boston or A Summoner’s Confession. This one is mostly intention based, and designed to be easier access for people who are more used to the idea of, “It’s magic, therefore it works” kind of thinking. Do note that Amy is, in most senses of the term, overpowered. This goes along with the usual dungeon core stories. She’s not more powerful than other dungeons per se, but she does have knowledge and intelligence that puts them to shame. I thought about doing this in a LitRPG style, but systems take balance, and I wanted this to be pure fun to write. This story was inspired from a few sources. Despite the title, it wasn’t really inspired by Of Mice and Men, though some of the themes match. Rather, I’ve taken inspiration from a few dungeon core novels on Royal Road Legends for the main idea. Many conventions of dungeon core stories have been perverted from the genre, however. I’ve taken my usual science-loving self to town to play around with the powers, and I can only hope you have half as much fun reading this as I have had writing it.

Majority Rule
Readers choose from a selection of options for participants of a survival game show known as "Can Anyone Beat Level 10?". Each level has some monsters to kill and a boss at the end. Treasure chests and traps are available. Treasure chests, if opened successfully, give decent weapons, first aid kits, etc. If unsuccessful, treasure chests will either explode, taking some health from player or do become permanently closed. Monsters in dungeon levels depend on the theme of the week. This game show occurs on the first week of every month. The game just showed up out of nowhere and many people were interested in it as they attended the live version of the show. As for its mysteries...well, who knows? Maybe someone will solve them some day. But, for now, let the games begin! This is a story that depends on the votes of the viewers using the poll system. I will probably wait a week or so per poll in order to accumulate enough votes. After the week is up, viewers can still vote but it won't affect the story. This is my first interactive fiction so it might not be on par with the better ones. Nevertheless, I hope you enjoyed reading this story. Thanks.
